- I previously did a video where I took a look at many of the weird elements and details you can find throughout Disneyland, covering many of the coin operated machines or the stranger elements of Mainstreet USA. However, I did miss quite a few things because the park has a lot to offer, so I thought a short and quick follow up video might be fun to quickly produce.

In the jungle cruise ride, a queue is seemingly built around a specific palm tree. That tree is the last remnant of the farm land Walt Disney bought for the park. Owner Ron Dominguez requested that the tree never be cut down, which is honored to this day. Ron was hired by the company to be a ticket tacker on opening day and retired in 1994 as executive vice president. His name is now on a window in main street as one of the architects of the park.

It had to be moved and replanted once or twice but one of the coolest fun facts in all Disneyland. Makes it easier to imagine the place covered with those and orange trees. Very conveniently located close to Patrick Begorra's house too. Love showing the two trees to the newbs~!
I've never actually seen this myself, but a fun hidden DL detail is the tiny little home in a tree in Adventureland. The home belongs to a character, Patrick Beggora, from a Little Golden Book called "Walt Disney's Little Man of Disneyland." The prop of the house in the tree alone is cute, and it adds so much more to learn that backstory. I think it's near Indiana Jones ride.
I just looked into it and didn't know it was a thing. I'll definitely look for it next time.

So THAT'S why it's known as "The Show Me State".
When I was a boy visiting Disneyland in 1971, there was a small arcade called “Pirates’ Den” or something next to Pirates of the Caribbean. What I loved about it were the standard 1960’s-70’s mechanical arcade games uniquely customized with Disney pirate themes: a rifle game with a blunderbuss and Captain Hook targets, etc. That may be the original location of the pirate fortune teller machine.
I just tried looking for information and photos of it but nothing came up. That would be interesting to see though. By rifle game, do you mean something like a shooting gallery? I do always enjoy that Knott's employs pistols and shotguns in some of its games.

@PoseidonEntertainment Apparently it was called the Pirates Arcade Museum. There's a fairly well-known photo floating around of someone playing a game called Freebooter Shooter. I think Offhand Disney mentioned it in one of his videos; he might have more info.

Pirate Red is my favorite thing in the park now that the Fantasmic Maleficent Dragon is dead and gone. Murphy forever!
Something additional to this I find super funny that is also quite tucked away, is the disability walkthrough of the Sleeping beauty walkthrough. It’s just a small themed room with a video walkthrough of the experience which I just find so interesting.

I may be mistaken, but was it not Walt himself whom was perturbed by the odd number of red & white lightbulbs, and was it not he whom insisted on the “half & half” solution? If I’m correct, that detail makes that segment far more significant.
I guess I'm not too familiar with the story if that's the case because I hadn't heard that. I didn't really look into it though, I just knew it was there.
The amount of little secrets in Disneyland just shows you how much the Imagineers cared, unlike today. Congrats in 100k!!

Why do you think they don’t care today? Maybe they just aren’t given proper time, resources, or creative liberty from leadership to show how much they care.
I actually feel like Disneyland is the only park that still gets care thrown its way. Rosita and the Tropical Hideaway are still relatively new and Runaway Railway saw major improvements from its HWS version.
@@PoseidonEntertainment yeah, I guess runaway railway fits better in Disneyland, and they did a really good job theming the queue like a Mickey Mouse museum.
I think the imagineers care plenty, it's the bean-crushers that hold the purse strings that are to blame. As someone in the creative field myself, it's something I've had to contend with a lot... you want to do something big, cool, and memorable... but management gives you 20 bucks and tells you they want it done in a day...
another little small thing about the hunchback of notes dame music box is that if you look at the crowd in the background, you can find cameos from several different disney characters!

To me, the 'minutiae' has always been what keeps DL on a tier above every other park; it's always the in-between stuff that fully immerses you into the different themed lands. Ironically, it wasn't too long ago that the company had been accused of putting too much 'stuff' into the parks and making them seem too cluttered. I guess one man's trash IS another man's treasure.
I'm not sure what you mean by too much "stuff"? Are you talking about the over-the-top 90s theming? Like the original World of Disney stores?
@@PoseidonEntertainment No, more like the Mardi Gras props on the train station or the remnants of the keelboats and mine trains along the Rivers of America. Even some of things you mentioned in the Emporium weren't always there in the past. But I guess everything in moderation.
@@blinkereye123 Ah, well I can't agree that things are too cluttered. Those elements all seem interesting to me and if anything, I'd like to see more. I feel that the Mainstreet to New Orleans section of the DLRR could use additional elements to make it more interesting.
I think it's odd to see so many Americans negative about the American Adventure while all Dutch visitors I know were very positive about it. It's fully in line with the themes of the other pavilions.
I like the American adventure too and I from the Uk
My largest issue with the show is that it dismisses serious issues in an a revisionist and almost silly sort of way. Its writing is stuck in the 80s and to me, has aged to the point of coming off almost as camp. I think it's a good show, but it could use some re-writes and new dialogue for some of its scenes.
@@PoseidonEntertainmentl think you should clarify that line you have as it “diminishes serious issues in a revisionist sort of way” because I have to say I usually love all the points you make but that and your take Spirits of America being “disgustingly nationalistic” is something I really disagree with. You’re in a time where history from all sides is attacked to be revised and where a society is highly emotional and quick to vilify American history. The point of Lincoln (aside from Walt’s love for the man) was to show challenges he faced in office and how the country should be unified. If anything, all the more poignant in our time today, and not at all cheesy. And the same goes for Spirit of America, it’s in the world pavilion representing the US and it’s achievements, it’s supposed to be nationalistic, the clear difference is that it’s not claiming that we’re better than everyone else, otherwise I would see your point of overly (and not disgustingly) nationalistic. It’s meant to show all the different elements of what made the US such a beacon to so many because it represents so many types of human endeavors that was collected in the confines of this country. Maybe I’m reading too much into your take but I think aside from a great video that was a bad take from you.

I grew up going to Disneyland CA, and as I was named after Aurora the castle walkthrough is always a must, it was the first place I went on my first solo visit this year.
Another fun fact about the Storyland Canal boats is they're all named after classic characters and while it isn't always out, the Aurora boat is a completely different style from the rest, and if what a cast member told my on my last visit is correct, a bit slower. Im not sure how often they allow this anymore but when I was young they'd let children under around 8-10 sit cross-legged on the bow of the boat instead of in the general seating, though they may have stopped due to safety complaints.
I'm also named after Aurora! I got to go through the walkthrough the one time I've been to DL and loved it. I never saw the Storyland Canal but I super gotta go now, especially that there's an Aurora boat! And a solo trip to Disney sounds so cool- gonna keep it in mind for myself :)
The American Adventure is more real than you think. My family was a "two brothers" family, and yes, one came home and one stayed behind.
I'm sure that the war did indeed devastate families, but the popular "divided families" narrative is 1980s revisionism meant to distract from the fact that succession occurred over slavery.
@@PoseidonEntertainment When I say that my family fit the attraction, I meant that literally. Actually, we had three brothers. There were six sons. One died before the war, one (my ancestor) was too old to fight and one too young. Two joined the Northern army, and the other joined the South. None of them owned slaves. It isn't revisionist to say that for many the issue was self-determination for states. Don't get me wrong, it would have been a massive tragedy if the South had won. Slavery still exists around the world, and every step towards eradicating it is wonderful.

CONTROL: South went to war to take over the entirety of the USA and institute their style, North just defended itself. Anyone that thinks the North fought to end slavery or that the South seceded constitutionally and lawfully needs to read or learn or listen or do something~! Slavery in some form may have gone on forever if the WestPoint egomaniacs would've defended their state lines instead of trying to rule all.

Ah, but aren't opinionated reactions what makes some of these interesting? Would the Emporium mannequins be as remarkable if people didn't find them to be a bit creepy?
Well I was specifically talking about the attraction at Epcot. I don't think nationalism is a bad thing per se, but that sentiment/opinion did not add or take away from the content of a good video. That sentiment could have been left out in my opinion. It did not add or take away from the actual point you're trying to make. Thank you!

Excellent job and really love these fun facts.I found the history, secrets, and small details hidden throughout the park very fascinating.
Main Street U.S.A. also has little phones you can eavesdrop strange conversations over! And a new store in New Orleans Square features dialogue between Tiana and her mother that you can overhear
ouch harsh on the Abe Lincoln show. I think it's charming, a great bit of Americana, and a good reminder of where we've been and where we can go. Plus it's my dads favorite ride/place to take a nap.
I've never heard of that Sleeping Beauty attraction before. Neat.
Like something you'd see at a road-side, but with Disney level polish. Must be so cool for any kids or even parents that just happen to stumble into that tiny alcove.
I think it's cool just to even be in the castle. Looking at it from the outside, it doesn't even seem like anything could fit in there, yet it's a pretty sizable exhibit.
I was delighted to find out what happened to Rosita after all these years.
On the first door of three doors in Sleeping Beauty Castle walkthrough, if you get close enough looking through the window, a guard will pop up to scare you.
I got pretty close and didn't know that. Maybe it's an effect that wasn't working or isn't working consistently.

Great idea for a series! The environmental details are my absolute favorite of Disneyland. I think people underestimate it for its size but because it’s so small they have to utilize every bit of space for storytelling. Somewhat related, there’s an imagineer I’ve been following on TH-cam for a moment named Don Carson who was responsible for some of these projects and the way he describes the work is so fascinating
If one had not been to both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom, they would be left unknowing of these unique differences and others. Another great dive!
Magic Kingdom has a lot to like, but it lacks the depth of Disneyland.
i've been to disneyland almost a dozen times and always assumed i'd make it to dworld but i sincerely doubt it now. after learning how convoluted the ride pass system(s) are and expensive it's gotten, i couldn't fathom blowing that much with a very real chance that i might not get to do a lot of stuff without significant research, effort and luck. it's just not feasible anymore and that's fina but a little sad.
Disneyland Paris is a resort that deserves a video like this
I like the patriotism of Lincoln and the American Adventure.
I love your channel, but I have to disagree with you on one thing. I think American Adventure is a great show.
It needs some re-writes. I think the latest version of the Hall of Presidents did this really well, so I don't see why the American Adventure couldn't get the same treatment.

I've thought about it. Toon Lagoon and Seuss Landing are both remarkably detailed and full of interesting things, yet the majority of people just pass through them without a second thought.

How have I never known about the Disneyland Castle Walkthrough? I'm blown away that there's still stuff I haven't discovered there despite me having grown up with it.
I think a good walkthrough attraction is also a really underrated aspect of theme parks too. I can't wait for the treehouse to finally reopen.
When I was in Disneyland for the first time (a few weeks before the first part of this video came out) I got to see the witch in the cage and the sleeping beauty walkthrough.
I would love to see you do these videos but in different parks like California adventure or the magic kingdom, they may not be as interactive as Disneyland but I’m sure they have little hidden secrets right?
I've thought about it, but when walking around DCA, I realized that it's far less detailed. I've walked through the shops on Buena Vista street and while I like the land, there's really not much in the way of decoration. The only really notable element is the Candy Mountain model. Magic Kingdom could be different though. There's definitely a lot of hidden things there.
Proceeds to rip on disneys nationalistic show…. This viewer, changes channel….bye.
Sleeping Beauty notes… there are more effects. There is a pop up in one of the windows that will trigger (if it’s working), and the final storybook was upgraded some time after this version opened so the dress on the page goes from pink to blue, with fairy dialog playing.
Disney world Rosita has a darker story and you'll find an empty cage in big thunder mountain near the canary shafts.
Mansion is my favorite ❤and knew about the light bulb. N the sleeping beauty castle is my favorite i didn't do it on Friday i just 2 tired or feet was lol. That door jumping is the scary part for lol only if u touch it lol..

Sleeping Beauty smelt like BO and was extremely hot when I went. Cool idea, never again.

Apparently, one of the castle guards will catch you peeking in the hole, jumping out at you.
Nice vid. I used to work at Disneyland, so know about all theme secret places. You could point out all f the hidden drinking fountains…lol
On the Jungle Cruise ride (at least in MK) the woman on the totem pole avoiding the rhino is a dishonorable mention to all relatives of cast members who pester them for family discounts and free tickets
I don’t really think it’s fair to criticize American Adventure for not addressing some of the darker parts of American history. The World Showcase is supposed to be a celebration on the countries in it, it’s not like we’re criticizing the Germany, Italy, and Japan pavilions for not highlighting their involvement in WWII. Every country has its terrible history, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t get to celebrate its good aspects without constantly being reminded of the bad parts

Main Street's town hall used to have a realistic statue of the dream finder's machine. I remember asking about it as a kid in the 90s and one of the staff members referenced it as a ride there as a mistake.
I'm a former CM (Jungle Cruise Skipper) and before the retheming of the treehouse, it was Tarzan's Treehouse. There was one room with Tarzan and Jane sculptures. The Tarzan looked off at a wall and Disney had to add a mirror across from the Tarzan sculpture because it was a genuine complaint from guests that they never got to make eye contact with Tarzan. He was very clearly sculpted to be looked at from the side and not head on so it looked very goofy.
Please do one of these on magic kingdom

I agree. I think that Magic Kingdom's Mainstreet used to have a lot more depth until it was essentially turned into a giant "Disney" store in the 80s. I would like to go back in time and see how both Mainstreets used to be. It's unfortunate that few photos exist of the stores and almost no video.

So glad the Frederick Douglass part is still there. ❤ On Friday when I was there I forgot to check it out. The whole area over there is my favorite. Plus it is a great way to relax from the heat or a long Disneyland day.

Thank you for this, as a WDW local that hasn’t been able to go to Disneyland yet it’s great seeing and hearing these little things that most Disneyland videos don’t show or discuss! You think you know everything about the park you haven’t been to but of course there’s always more!
Once upon a time in the 90s, we had our Jungle Cruise Christmas party inside of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. I have a photo, sitting on Lincoln's lap, while he sported a Santa hat! 🎅

I feel like it's in an area that most people avoid unless you specifically want to meet characters or have little kids. I like how Disneyland has small little sections that are often overlooked but always have a little to discover.

Ah, I've only had good experiences. Granted, they're Americanized theme park snack food, but I prefer them over other quick-service locations in the park.
I’ve been on multiple visits to Disney throughout the last 20 years, and NEVER knew about Aladdin’s other lamp! I’ll have to hunt for it next time!
I cannot stress how much I agree with you Poseidon with Great Moment with Mister Lincoln. As a Disney World local, I was so bummed that GMwML had these elements of American Adventure in it. Especially the some of the Civil War scene. I thought to myself, is there anything Disney won't just copy and paste to its sister parks? Why cant GMwML be special?
Though, you had elegant reasons to dislike the current GMwML, but all I wanted was a unique show starring an AA that is ages old
I like the American Adventure conceptually, I just think it needs rewrites. I think that the Hall of Presidents is a really good example of how they managed to remain patriotic, while still acknowledging the sins of America's past. My issue with the American Adventure is that issues like slavery and genocide are brought up, but are dismissed in a way that almost seems comedic and silly with how light the tone is. I don't think you would need to change the animatronics or anything. It would just require rewriting some lines and programming the animatronics with them.
Edit: Oh, I completely misread your comment. I actually don't think that I would like the original version of Mr. Lincoln to have stayed in place and that embellishment is necessary to keep it relevant. I agree though that inserting the American Adventure was not the way to do it. It seems too silly to me.
Justin Scarred did a good series on his randomland/livefastdiepoor channel quite a few years ago about the weird things in each land. That would be a good place to look for potentially some new stuff
Ah, I've seen a few of his videos in the past but I didn't know to what extent he covered stuff like this. I'll actually try to avoid watching those videos because I don't want to essentially tread the same ground that he did.
The Sleeping Beauty tour apparently had the eyes/face of a castle guard pop up through one of the windows in the original version. Creepy!
Regarding podcasts about Disney; I think your one of the very best ones, if not the best. Many podcasts explain things to the point they become very negative. I'm personally unhappy with the current transformation of Disney, but I think some sights are near epiletic excitement over Disney's downfall. I would; however, like your take on the transformation into politically charged agenda as well as how poor the creative teams are at Disney these days.
I'd like to ride the Storyland Canal Boats just to see Monstro. Such an impressive construct!
Also is that old man in the fortune telling machine the Colonel animatronic from the old Adventurers Club? Sure looks like him. I forget if you mentioned it in the last video.
I see the similarity, but they're not the same character. The fortune teller is Colonel Nedley Lostmore and the character from AC is Colonel Critchlow Sunchbench.

Wonderful! I always wondered what happened to Rosita. Once upon a time I wore a bright orange dress and woke up Jose again and again and again for years. The Tiki Room is very special to me.
I never knew about any of these. Then again the ladt time I went was almost 20 years ago, and I was in a rush to get to the rides. I think the next time I go I'll spend the time to just explore the park.
Man I need to go back to Disneyland, I went for grad nite last year but we didn’t have enough time to appreciate the little things like that.

Okay, I have the utmost respect for you but I DRAW the line at trashing THE AMERICAN ADVENTURE
It's a show that desperately needs to re-write some of its scenes. It takes too many serious topics and dismisses their weight through an almost campy, silly tone. I really like how the most recent version of the Hall of Presidents fixed this problem, so I don't see why the American Adventure can't use some re-writes and new lines for some of its scenes.
Play the sounds, of the organ, the bird, etc
I think the organ and the music in the Tropical Hideaway are likely to cause copyright issues.

The thing that I don’t understand my Disneyland is why do they have dinosaurs that doesn’t fit the theme of this park. They could take all that section out and do Disney things like they’re doing in splash Mountain. That would be cool because that’s a lot of room they’re using for these dinosaurs.
