season 5: MORE TRAUMA FOR MK and mk sacrificing himself
Another thing that makes inky mk so unnerving is how insistent he is, he keeps asking mk who he is and what his destiny/purpose is and isn't satisfied with any of mk's answers and how it probably means mk isn't satisfied with his own answers despite how confidently he said them
Literally promised myself I wouldn’t look at spoilers until it came out dubbed in june and then immediately watched the entire thing in mandarin on the same day. I just didnt want to be spoiled by anyone else hahaha. Now I can watch something like this without problem

Really love to see you include how MK directly takes the worst traits from MKing in this season and how it showed in full this season. Very fun watch (loved the bit with the ‘he’s just like me fr’ with macaque and tang) But its also cool to see how Macaque reaches out to MK during this moment to try and pull him back to his friends, which he hadn’t been able to do with Monkey King. A lot of unexpected sides of each character came out this season and even without the translations it was a pleasure to watch and hear your thoughts too! :D

Kinda sad that Macaque saying “you abandoned me” was translated into “You’re nothing” in English
After watching season four my mind is kinda scrambling over the fact that it’s made clear that Macaque doesn’t want to hate Monkey King anymore- or at least doesn’t want to necessarily be his enemy

You psychologically analyze the characters and the show so well that you leave me speechless.
And I also noticed that when the Ink Demon attacks Wukong, Macaque is the only one who doesn't attack him directly, he only appears tied up, suffering, and crying, telling him "You abandoned me", which shows that it hurt Wukong more to make him suffer than to make him suffer. Macaque became his enemy and attacked him (T_T).
Seriously, this series is so well written that it would take hundreds of words to do a psychological analysis of each character and the series itself.
That's why I enjoyed your video so much and I will follow you from now on

HEY, I WANNA JUST DUMP MY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS SEASON INTO A REALLY LONG COMMENT, SO SPOILERS FOR SEASON 4 AHEAD HERE, WHOOOO!!

How are the writers in this show… so insanely good? I had confidence they’d be able to keep up the momentum, maybe take second place, but that got absolutely bull-dozed and the season has rooted itself deep into my heart. I think it’s because the writers took one of my favourite story plots as well to do that, and that’s facing your past and inner demons. Seeing MK battle with his trauma and learn more about his idol, him questioning his identity and very existence was such a great move on the show’s part. Season 4 forces the characters to focus on themselves and not just the stakes of the world here. Azure Lion is such a beautifully written antagonist, and you can see where the show is taking this in a direction where there is conflicting ideals but the same goal at the very heart of it. Sad that we won’t see the DBK family for season 5/the movie because y’know… memory scrolled.
This show understands that the characters have been through a lot, because the show is CHARACTER DRIVEN. In something like Ninjago, it’s much more event based, and that’s not to say I dislike Ninjago (I literally love that show to hell and back, it’s a thing), but to see a story delve into their character’s psyche and break them in a way to make them stronger? Absolutely. That’s not even beginning to talk about the characters of the past that we see in the memory scroll. The team’s past lives were all so interesting, the Patriarch is such a classic mentor figure (Sandy deserved all of those stars), and Ao Lie and Mie’s interactions? Holy cow.
Parallels being made between the characters and their past lives are so fitting, finding out Princess Iron Fan used to be a Jade Warrior screwed me up, REDSON FUCKING CRIED??! Also, next season or the movie will definitely see more Macaque and Nezha content, WHICH MIGHT MEAN SOME CHANG’E AND I LOVE HER SO MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEA-
MORE STUFF TO RANT ABOUT AS THE VIDEO WENT ON!! It’s just.. so depressing that the reason MK idolises legends and stories is because he had no past. There was no memory of his beginning he had to look back to. He was an empty blank slate, and Piggsy found him and gave him a home. Heck, the suggestions that Wukong might be his dad or the closest thing to it scares the shit out of him, because he’s afraid to be the trickster that the heavens and his former friends had come to know. He’s so scared of fucking everything up with the people he cares about, and for a moment, he doubts if he should stay with them if he only gets hurt. It really hurt man, because the show acknowledges - FROM SEASON FUCKING ONE, MIGHT I ADD - that MK isn’t confident. He’s loud. He overpowers his own thoughts by spewing things he believes will help him, or echoing something. MK is loud, and he doesn’t believe in himself, no matter how much anyone tried. Macaque being the one that got through to him… was beautiful. They might seem like opposites, but they’re not. They both live in Sun Wukong’s shadow, unsure of what to do and hiding away how they’re truly feeling in order to keep an appearance and strength.
TL;DR - season 4 was a character driven ride and an absolute masterclass in how to expose a character’s trauma to the audience. I cannot wait for season 5

Also, we really need Red Son to get somehow more power because I really feel bad when he gets captured. Compared to MK, Mei, and a lot of other characters like the gang, Red Son is not that powerful anymore. But of course, he's a sidecharacter, so I also can't complain that much.
I would have loved for him to regain the Soumadi (or however u spell it) fire, while I loved Mei getting it because I love Mei, it wasn’t really used after that :(( and Red Son if anyone could handle it now, since he’s always had fire magic
I think what Azure bring to the table is also very very interesting. The lady bone demon is a very simple villain who wanted to destroy the world. She isn't physically strong enough to do it herself so she plays on the anxiety of MK.
The Ink mk makes MK fear of becoming like Wukong. And Azure being a overall kind and understanding antagonist. One who is quick to listen and genuinely wants peace.
Mk knows that and that Wukong betrayed his friend. So he is EXTRA scared of repeating history. But like you said on his path to avoiding being like Wukong he's inadvertently copying all Wukong worst qualities.
Thank goodness for Macaque.
Tho I'd like to point out that MK is still copying Wukong. When he shows up to heaven grabs his friends and leaves. Just like Wukong did at the hight of the lady bone demons power.
However this was MK copying a good idea Wukong had seeing they were in no condition to fight her. Same As with Azure.
Finally seeing someone treating MK like an actual cinematic marvel that deserves to be seen by critics the same way any blockbuster movie does is refreshing

This season was fantastic. I was worried going into this season thinking that the writers wouldn’t be able to top season 3’s writing. And holy crap, I was wrong. This season might be even more thematically darker than the last season. The overall message of facing our past regrets while also trying to move forward to be a better version of ourselves is a relatable and powerful message. I found myself enjoying this season even more than i did the last season. And.. the lore, the lore was so juicy. I appreciate that we are now starting to get into a deeper dive of MK’s past but in doing so we are revaluing the relationship between him and his mentor. Also I appreciate the development of Sandy, Tang, Pigsy, Mei and Wukong. Yes, even Wukong, and development his more subtle. You can tell he is growing by how he interacts with MK. I can write so much more about this season in this jumble rant but many in the comment section still haven’t watched the season and are waiting for the English dub. I can’t wait to rewatch the season when the English drops to understand the plot better.

I actually hope there is a villain who kidnaps or mind controls Mk and we get to see what happens either while he's locked up or what happens in his head as he is being mind controlled. I feel like they could use this as a way for Mk to self reflect and see all the red flags or problems that happen. Also I personally think that after he gets saved or unmind controlled if he ran away and left the staff behind, just trying to get away from what he has started to preseve as bad, and he mainly just tries to get ahold of what he feels is wrong and right.
Omg I defiantly want to see this, I feel like he would need some time to find out whats right and wrong, but I also feel like by abandoning all of his other relationships he would find out that its ok to have connections too. A point I haven’t seen talked about alot is that when monkey king losses his memory he says that if he didn't have friends he would probably become pretty manipulative, and you can see that when people finally break into his shell it still happens because he is too afraid to lose them, (AKA when he tricks them into assembling the samadi fire and was going to try and take it himself before dipping, keeping his friends safe but also sacrificing himself) But back to my point I do worry that if he leaves them behind again he might get into the mindset monkey king had which is all connections are bad. but honestly I want him to run away and then have macaque bonding time.

I literally found out about s4 from tumblr 2 days ago when I went to see whats trending and oddly Lego Monkie Kid was just, there.
I clicked it and instantly realized I didn't recognize those pictures and went on a hunt eheheh,,,,
Uhh LMK knows how to pace which such short seasons and short run time. S4 somehow threw in heavy lore and ended it good enough to where I feel like the final special will tie it up. MK's character development is just insane, I hate to admit but seeing character trauma is what I like when carrying on. It just makes the show feel so connected.

i’ve never seen a show just drop like that i had to do a double take when i saw it came out 😭 i had to watch the entire thing with my google translate camera on my phone which was so difficult. Anyway, I loved this season, genuinely can’t understand how the show manages to get even better each season!! My jaw was dropped every single second of this season i had to pause and take a breather between episodes because i was so taken aback.

Man, if you really think about it, there was a lot of characters this season that are either missing (the girl who got possessed by LBD, The "Mayor", Mei's mother and father though they have been missing for a while, the Scorpion demon lady, etc.) or did appear but were barely even there (Red Son, Macaque, Jin and Yin, Demon Bull King, the accountant lady that Yin and Jin know, Princess Iron Fan, Nezha, etc.)
the little girl that got possessed by LBD was in season 4 in the special she appeared for like 2 seconds

The ink like demon is the Quardian that protect the scroll, I guess that is the ink thing name, the Quardian of the memori scroll
this is really great video and how it dives into the villains and a character study on mk for a bit. and now we know what the ink mk said it gives it a more positive light being it actually giving mk advice and with the end saying prove him wrong when he said mk would end up has a monster. while at the start he list off mk mistakes but then end up it giving the advice of stop trying to be wukong but be better.
