This is scheduled for an emergency demolition tomorrow at 9am sadly. This building was constructed by my maternal great great great uncle Charles Dearing in 1897. His name is at the top of the building. He was a butcher by trade. He also donated a Tiffany stained glass window that is still on display in St Louis Church. The Doerings came from Darmstadt Germany just prior to the US Civil War. Charles’ father Caspar Doering served in the Union Army in the 100th Infantry Regiment which mustered out from Buffalo in 1861. Caspar was buried in the National Cemetary in Bath NY when he died on April 16, 1898. The name somehow became Anglicized after moving from Germany to Buffalo. Charles is listed in the 1893 city directory as a butcher at 229 Allen Street.
Bummer about Mulligans. Hoping it was not arson. Maybe the owners can sell the bricks or pave Allen Street with them. It has to remain there in some form. PS What was that look the two men exchanged when Rinaldo said Engine 2 responded in under two minutes? PPS Long live Allentown!
When I was young, I remember them selling OV splits (Old Vienna Beer)-a case for $10.00
So sad. The whole half of Allentown is empty. Including the buildings across the street

As a born, raised, and ultimately distant Buffalonian, this is a sad event.
Definitely.
Something going down there.I wouldn't be surprised if another buyer went down as well

Why doesn't the chef has his radio!!
He's the Commissioner, not a Battalion Chief. He doesn't necessarily have a radio on him.
