    Australia had Mike Raymond, The US had Bob Jenkins, but the world had Murray Walker. The GOAT of all Motorsport commentators. There will never be another.

    To many, Murray was the infectiously enthusiastic Grandfather figure that many boys never had.

    Murray Walker was a massive part of my childhood into my adult hood
    I was lucky enough to meet him at Lyddern Hill for the rallycross. Got to have a decent 20 min talk and was able to thank him directly for inspiring me to get into engineering and motorsport.

    Without Murray, I honestly don't think I would have been as drawn to motorsport as a wee lad since the late 80s. I couldn't stress enough how much influence the excitement in his voice had in grabbing my attention along with the sounds of the cars. Being as knowledgeable, passionate while remaining humble and down to earth, making the odd Murrayism were all part of what made him so endearing, like a great uncle to me.
    I usually find the word "legacy" cringeworthy because of the vanity of people who want it but Murray merely wanted to share his passion for motorsport with the world and he's created a legacy I will always think fondly of, especially as I share so many memories of watching F1, BTCC and other motorsport with my late father.

    I live in Canada and started watching racing in 1978, most of our motorsports covergae is from Canadian and U.S. sports commentators, they weren't too exciting or informative, Jackie Stewart was often a guest for big races like th USGP, Canadian Grand Prix and hte Indy 500. BUT, in Canada, we'd get the BBC broadcast, rarely live, for every other F1 race, it was usually at weird times of the day, you'd have to be lucky to catch a broadcast...and when you did find it, you were treated to James Hunt and Murray Walker's informative, exciting and usually hilarious commentatry. "Do you watch F1?" ...."ya, I;ve seen it, but it's boring."...'you have to watch it with those two crazy British guys, they can make anything exciting!"

    • @KieranMogg
      @KieranMogg  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s so difficult for anyone to match that level he had. One part that just didn’t smoothly fit into the video was with how his voice was pitched, he had the same tone and volume of those old school v12’s and v10’s! So it worked really well!

    I transformed from a casual motorsport spectator into an avid F1 fan because of this man. His charisma, his enthusiasm and yes the bloopers - 😂- made motorsport accessible to us punters. We caught the bug and became connoisseurs because this man inspired us to learn more about our F1 heroes and their cars.
    He once said that drivers sometimes asked him not to commentate about them because as soon as he mentioned them, there'd be an unfortunate development. The 'Murray Walker "Kiss of Death"' they called it. 😆
    I've seen him being interviewed and he certainly comes across as a humble, unassuming mild-mannered man. But hand him a microphone...😎😎
