It's an election year, the Democrats are pushing for these sort of "trauma porn" as you put it to keep people emotional and not thinking. I hate that this has become the "norm" for this generation. It breaks my heart, especially as a mother. I often pray protection over my kids' school and try to not think "what if..?"

i was interviewed on the news when i was 12 years old shortly after my best friend died tragically. i look back as an adult and i’m disgusted that other adults took advantage of my weakened mental state & need for connection to film an interview. i feel the same way for this girl. she does not need to be on TV, she needs to be healing. edit: healing can come from many different sources. there is nothing wrong with healing and coping through speaking publicly. the problem is that without being asked, i would not have sought a public platform. how many of these teens would? this is within the immediate aftermath, their brains haven’t settled from the trauma they’ve endured. the decision to heal publicly should come from a mind that has the wherewithal to weigh the consequences. being a teenager and being freshly victimized do not allow for this.

This is the second student to confirm the shooting victims broke lockdown protocol.
Her teacher looked out the door. They're lucky that teacher's curiosity didn't get everyone in that room killed.
Another student said the shooter banged on a door, and his teacher insisted it was the police. The students had to stop the teacher from opening the door.
What good are all these safety measures if people aren't going to follow them?

i was interviewed on the news when i was 12 years old shortly after my best friend died tragically. i look back as an adult and i’m disgusted that other adults took advantage of my weakened mental state & need for connection to film an interview. i feel the same way for this girl. she does not need to be on TV, she needs to be healing.
edit: healing can come from many different sources. there is nothing wrong with healing and coping through speaking publicly. the problem is that without being asked, i would not have sought a public platform. how many of these teens would? this is within the immediate aftermath, their brains haven’t settled from the trauma they’ve endured. the decision to heal publicly should come from a mind that has the wherewithal to weigh the consequences. being a teenager and being freshly victimized do not allow for this.
Maybe for you it was too much. That doesn’t mean it’s the same for her. Healing & living (including interviewing) can occur concurrently.

@@syw9882following up, i think that people should heal in whatever way suits them best. for some, maybe it is speaking publicly. however, this is *immediately* after the event and the traumatized brain hasn’t even settled its neurotransmitters related to fear yet. i feel that the healing process should first be behind closed doors before it is brought to the public eye, especially when it’s a teenager or child who doesn’t have the foresight to know that this clip is now in existence forever. i am mortified that there is a clip of me as a child snot-nosed and bawling my eyes off while i was trying to decompress at a public pool because the local news found out the friend of the dead girl was primed for an interview.

I'm a junior in high school in New Jersey. There was a shooting at a neighboring town's high school during their football game just last week. Two kids got shot. Absolutely disgusting that these situations even happen and that the people affected have to go through what they do

Stop with reporting false disorders…there are no reports of him being bullied nor of having a psychological disorder…where is no data that proves bullying leads to an increase in school 🔫? Lack of accountability and false reports based on no data lead to these tragedies

A tormented child with terrible parents took out all his pain on innocent classmates. All the kids from that who called him gay and bullied him have blood on their hands.

The kids of this school tormented the heck out of this boy. That’s why he retaliated. I’m am not justifying his actions, but the reality of the situation is that really bad kids who have really bad parents do really bad things to provoke and torture others. You’ve maybe heard “it takes a village to raise a child” well IMO it also takes a village to make a sick monster!! Just please think about what I’m saying….because it needs to stop.
People being mean and cruel to others, it has consequences.
Unfortunately this has become the norm for these poor children. The level of PTSD and trauma children will have to face simply for just trying to go to school and enjoy their youth. My coworkers child goes to this school and fortunately he was not harmed, but I pray for his emotional and mental wellbeing. But this is what has become of the US where gun violence has always been a major problem, no one cares, not even when the most innocent has to suffer for the choices of “adults” who advocate for less strict gun laws and the rights to carry. Way to go!
