    My kindergarden teacher in 1980 just died and fell over at her desk. That was traumatizing. I can't imagine the trauma these kids will go through who witnessed it.

      It's an election year, the Democrats are pushing for these sort of "trauma porn" as you put it to keep people emotional and not thinking. People want a "solution" from the government but don't bother to think about all of the other "solutions" that have been done already from previous shootings that didn't work and either were made specifically to make someone look like they were "doing something" or worse put more blame and restrictions on the law abiding gun owners instead of the criminals.

      God hasn’t stopped the shootings so maybe we need to but our faith into something more substantial like community n sense gun laws.     SOMEBODY KNEW this boy was a problem and his post was enough for investigation. The only way to stop this is for PARENTS, Students, and Law Enforcement to be involved in our school protection. Thank God there were not more - smart moves by locked classrooms.

    I came from a broken abusive home. School was my refuge from the daily abuse and chaos at home.
    Our students deserve safe, peaceful places to learn and grow. Can’t expect students to thrive in an unsafe cray-cray environment.

    This is the second student to confirm the shooting victims broke lockdown protocol.
    Her teacher looked out the door. They're lucky that teacher's curiosity didn't get everyone in that room killed.
    Another student said the shooter banged on a door, and his teacher insisted it was the police. The students had to stop the teacher from opening the door.
    What good are all these safety measures if people aren't going to follow them?
    Shooter makes threat in 2023. FBI investigates, deems it valid, but does nothing.
    Sheriff investigates, deems it valid, but also does nothing.
    District investigates, deems it valid, but also does nothing.
    Shooter makes threat day of. School district locks down. Deems it valid.

    You can tell she's still trying to process it too because when she said if he hadn't shut the door the shooter could have come in she looked like she was about to laugh like it was a joke. That's a very normal and common disassociated response too

    i was interviewed on the news when i was 12 years old shortly after my best friend died tragically. i look back as an adult and i’m disgusted that other adults took advantage of my weakened mental state & need for connection to film an interview. i feel the same way for this girl. she does not need to be on TV, she needs to be healing.
    edit: healing can come from many different sources. there is nothing wrong with healing and coping through speaking publicly. the problem is that without being asked, i would not have sought a public platform. how many of these teens would? this is within the immediate aftermath, their brains haven’t settled from the trauma they’ve endured. the decision to heal publicly should come from a mind that has the wherewithal to weigh the consequences. being a teenager and being freshly victimized do not allow for this.

      @@syw9882following up, i think that people should heal in whatever way suits them best. for some, maybe it is speaking publicly. however, this is *immediately* after the event and the traumatized brain hasn’t even settled its neurotransmitters related to fear yet. i feel that the healing process should first be behind closed doors before it is brought to the public eye, especially when it’s a teenager or child who doesn’t have the foresight to know that this clip is now in existence forever. i am mortified that there is a clip of me as a child snot-nosed and bawling my eyes off while i was trying to decompress at a public pool because the local news found out the friend of the dead girl was primed for an interview.

    I'm a junior in high school in New Jersey. There was a shooting at a neighboring town's high school during their football game just last week. Two kids got shot. Absolutely disgusting that these situations even happen and that the people affected have to go through what they do

When will we provided the safety and stability they need to be amazing humans instead of this cycle of trauma and abuse?     The shooter killed kids over "trans" acceptance. Nashville School shooting "trans" issues treated at Vanderbilt for 22 years. These situations are more complicated than "guns bad". Simply possessing a weapon is not a catalyst for violence. If it was, there are over 500,000,000 weapons in the US, violence would be widespread,but the violence is contained to specific geographic areas or to predictable psychological profiles. There are outliers, but patterns of repetition are extremely noticeable.

    In a world where Americans want freedom of guns, we should also have the right to have armed security in schools, be it law enforcement, govt contracting, private contracts or just overall elevated safety. Acting like more school shootings aren’t going to happen is as brain dead as Americans thinking theirs no problem at all

In places like Australia and the UK violence spikes because of how dangerous those weapons can be, you are underselling the danger. Gun control is very stupid in essence, and is really only attractive to those seeking a quick and easy solution that inevitably does nothing. The problem moreso is in the households of America, the familial unit.

    Unfortunately this has become the norm for these poor children. The level of PTSD and trauma children will have to face simply for just trying to go to school and enjoy their youth. My coworkers child goes to this school and fortunately he was not harmed, but I pray for his emotional and mental wellbeing. But this is what has become of the US where gun violence has always been a major problem, no one cares, not even when the most innocent has to suffer for the choices of “adults” who advocate for less strict gun laws and the rights to carry. Way to go!
