What a treat. Joan so rarely plays front-and-centre, letting his students and guest players take the spotlight. He's got chops to match his musicality!
What a beautiful song. Interpreted by Joan Chamorro and Andrea Motis vocalizing. This group of great musicians don't stop to amaze me each time I hear a song by each one of them.
Andrea puts her body and soul into an emotionally filled solo, she is a wonderful jazz musician who lives her jazz. Great sax playing from Joan Chamorro too.
Andrea Motis, unique talent at 18. Perfect pitch, and, rare in jazz circles, a vibratoless singing voice. And she knows how to fill a lyric with emotion like a poet, with an interpretive style and delivery ala Sinatra, Billie Holiday, and Chet Baker.
Wow! So lazily melancholy, so effortlessly executed. The crowd, those nearest the stage, seemingly in awe. The quintet, despite the surrounding distractions, locked to the rhythm of Andrea's softly swinging vocal. There's so much love of American soul jazz evident here. Excellent!
Acabo de escuchar la version que se encuentra en el disco reciente de Mingus, "Incarnations", queria saber si habia una versión de Chamorro, y si, la encuentro aqui, muy buena, con Andrea cantandola, un regalo. Muchas gracias.
Very good. I have enjoyed you very deeply. I have been a jazz guitarist for over 60 years, I build archtop jazz guitars, the D'Leco brand and have never heard a more enjoyable group. So very good. Wonderful.
Joan est un formidable musicien, on l'entend dans ce solo et on le constate à chaque sortie d'un nouveau tube avec ses merveilleux juniors ! Il donne envie de vivre à Barcelone...
Andrea is defiantly influenced by Chet Baker but she gives a bit ore nuance than Chet. Andrea is well coached and knows what she can do and does it very well. Chimoro is worth a listen too as are the other three. All-in-all very enjoyable no matter what song they are playing. Thanks for posting this.
I see that too. This probably comes from her trumpet playing, when not more than a child with Joan's SANT ANDREU JAZZ BAND-before he/she discovered her Billie Holiday-like talent. Andrea's on stage demeanor is Chet-like too: absent of antics, excessive jumping about, or gyrating; just a thoughtful swaying motion, keeping her in touch with the rhythm.
sbjforever I loved her when she was somewhat of child prodigy. Trumpeted, sax and singing. I find that the most recent YT videos show her to be a bit boring. If all I do is listen I don't hear much that distinguishes from any of the best jazz singers. She is a talent though and needs some coaching on how t sell a song. (I think.)
Ed Grosso Yep. Unlike Ami Winehouse before her-when not drunk, a prodigous jazz vocal talent if there ever was one-Andrea had better steer clear of booze and drugs. Chamorro appears to keep her tightly in his fold. Coached by him from childhood-I suppose he discovered her really- and him bringing in talents such as Chuck Hamilton is a big plus toward Andrea's career. She needs to break into the US/UK-there is an incoming London gig.
You've hit the nail on the hed, dear friend. I sat in amazement and heard two mid/-sub teenagers deliver a version which Sidney Bechet would have been proud of. Why do they think that I or anyone would go to to Madrid to hear a third-rate imitation of a second-raete crooner in Chicago/San Francisco or |New |||||||||||||||York|? Sad, so sad. Dipak Nandy
Nobody cares whether you go to Madrid or to hell but do us a favor refrain from making comments which are silly and unintelligible . Go take English lessons, might be useful to you.
Dipak Nandy, The kid sounds fine-go away and be sad somewhere else. Brownfield-check out her trumpet solo on “My Baby Just Cares For Me”-of the several versions on TH-cam, the one you want is with Scott Hamilton (who visibly loved it), indoors, with her in a black dress, and a running time listed as 5:03. When you have, come back and complain about a lack of improvisation and high notes. And consider, before you put her down any more, that at 18, playing two dissimilar instruments both at a professional level, before audiences numbering in the several hundreds, she fronted that rhythm section not only as the singer but on most tunes as the only horn. Very few musicians could ever have handled that. She’s clearly on her way to greatness, despite criticisms from the cheap seats.
Ma cosa ci trovano in questa qui? La sto sentendo ovunque ma non vale un soldo bucato. E jazz da localini da cocktail frequentati da hipster che si vogliono sentire impegnati
Can's agree that she's boring, and it's not the best piece to bring that up. She put more into Body and Soul than she's put into most ballads. Yes, she could use some coaching, but more importantly, she need to be challenged. She blows a really pleasant trumpet and is maybe better, even, on alto sax, but I want to hear some high notes, some serious improvising, some tunes that take more mature interpretation. That said, she was at fifteen where Peggy Lee was at seventeen. And if she grow as a musician, she'll be at twenty-five where Ella was at nineteen. I am not in the least bored. Forge ahead, Andrea. No resting on the laurels.
"but I want to hear some high notes, some serious improvising, some tunes that take more mature interpretation" Go elsewhere. What she's doing is superb. Did Chet Baker play like Freddie Hubbard? Did Monk play like Powell? Why don't you listen to what is in front of you instead of wanting to hear something else? When you stop to consider she is from Spain, a country not know for it's jazz musicians, she and Joan have managed to be smack dab in the middle of the American Jazz tradition while infusing some European shadings.
The quality of her voice is like a fine wine. Her phrasing and timing comes from another era! I could listen to her sing all day!
Beautiful tenor playing. Joan, you are awesome. Andrea is wonderful. Thanks so much.

Joan! A side of you I have not heard before. Great tenor sax improvisation!
Recién me encuentro con este talento, de casualidad viendo vídeos en TH-cam. Grande Joan Chomorro
Beautiful job by all! I love the public setting!
I really love this song! Chamorro is THE master! I want to be there!
Wow! Not enough words for these great musicians. Thank you!

Very good. I have enjoyed you very deeply. I have been a jazz guitarist for over 60 years, I build archtop jazz guitars, the D'Leco brand and have never heard a more enjoyable group. So very good. Wonderful.

Others have compared her to Chet Baker. I don't think so. She has a voice!

This Andrea Motis is best deleted, andall that remains is Joan Chamorrow's accomplished tenor sax. Sad.
Dipak Nandy
You missed a great chance to sound intelligent by shutting up.
What a sad person
