I feel so sad that not too many people know about this anime & not to mention about possibly the greatest anime villain i have ever seen, Johann Liebert! The moment i felt the saddest for him is at the very end, when Johan says a certain thing about their mother in Tenma's vision... Even though i didn't understand the ending itself very well, that very scene made me realize why he was acting the way he was....
Johann is not the true monster, the true monster is Franz Bonaparta. He is the one who executed Father of the Twins, he is the one who made their mother make a choice between them which ended up with both of the twins being extremely traumatized and Johann completely losing his emotions also their Mother regretting and hating herself for that choice for the rest of her life.He is the one who poisoned everyone in the Red Rose Mansion in front of Nina. That scene when he looks at the eyes of Twins Mother in cold blood after ordering her to make a choice between her kids makes me hate him everytime.
Sad truth of that is, we're all a product of our past experiences. Even the monsters that make monsters. Sure, there may be certain individuals that are born with a capacity for empathy ranging from just below average to a completely inability to feel it. Even with those cases however, I honestly think for all but truest most complete instances of sociopathy that, with the right nurturing, people who might otherwise become the most ruthless of monsters can learn to sympathize even when they don't truly empathize; if only for those closest to them.
Actually when you see last scene where Tenma tries to understand Johan and explain to him that it wasnt him that was taken, it was Nina, you see that johan is not a human at all, he is an actual monster that uses the life stories as reasons for him to be a monster. So he calmly responds ˝what is mother mistake me for Nina˝ It doesnt matter what the reality is, Nina was far more damaged if you compare what she has endured with franz bonaparta (and she is a nice girl) He doesnt care what really happened, there are deeper meaning in Monster, as the first quote in first episode about the great beast with 7 heads, and the drunk father in last few episodes when he sees johan he says ˝what is this, it has 7 heads) And also when Shubert looks into johans eyes and sees the monster he is scarred for life (and that is the guy they called the vampire of berlin) Also the reason he wanted to die wasnt because of any moral reason or guilt or any relatable emotion like that. He just saw himself as a non-existant being.
Johnny Vincent Monsters don't exist. Only humans. Which includes humans with bad memories who are the prisoners of their past. We sympathize with Johan, even if he's cruel, has probably killed more people than Franz Bonaparta and caused so much more sorrow than him. Why? Because we know his terrifying past. But who knows what Franz Bonaparta had to experience. I've already seen you under another video about Monster. You're really not very intelligent. You don't get it at all. And you glorify Johan, which makes you even more unsympathetic. I mean, I feel sorry for Johan too, but he really don't deserve this excess of compassion. It's hypocritical and disgusting. Nobody cares about Anna, even if she has by far the most terrible and tragic fate.
@Johnny Vincent No, the one who poisoned them is never relieved, but it was Franz Bonaparta. Bonaparta feels deep guilt for what he had done to twins' mother because he was secretly in love with her, and he wanted to erase memories of the kids so kids could live somewhere happily. But he indeed did so bad shit to them. The moment that really turned Johan into monster is when mother was picking a child to send to torture. It's not her fault, but it is too. She could have not picked any one at all, so that Franz takes one by himself. Her doing this small ambiguous act showed Johan that lives are not equal. Mother should never love one child more than another, but this small thing, when she said 'take this one... no, not this one, this one' is a proof that she valued one over the another, which broke Johan. Johan became a monster because he wanted to become something. He didn't have a name nor home, nor anyone who really loved him. He didn't even have any memories that he could call his own.
Idk if y'all noticed that in the end, the blanket of the hospital bed was slightly moved the way that indicates that a person has just got up from there himself. And through the whole series, whenever the screen time was about him with only himself, he just stands somewhere and stares at the sky. That makes me sobbing how lonely Johan was 😞 and I can't help but pity him... whenever he appears I feel sad. If he's a real person and if I'd have got the chance to meet him, I'd have told him: "Johan, let's sit somewhere and look at the sky together" T....T
No one is born evil there is a reason why they become a villian the world is not all rainbows it's cruel and it can make a good person evil I don't hate johan I hate the circumstances which made him who he is
0:28 - 1:20 My favorite part of the video... Johan and Anna were the only ones in the world, and Johan loved her so much. I have two sisters and can relate a lot...
2:07 this scene is so descriptive... The only person in the series that is capable of walking throw a narrow line balancing between life or death, showing how meaningless life has become for Johan to the point that he doesnt fear death anymore, meanwhile other kids who said they hate life and act though, seem to crumble everytime they feel their life could go away. Monster is by far the best series I have seen in my life for scenes like this one.
the most realistic opinion about johan I've ever seen. It's sadly very true that those who say they're in severe depression don't have actually the courage to meet what death really looks like. [I'm not looking down on them] whereas johan met death time and again.
Im glad he's implied to survive in the end. I think about what Mr Grimmer says before the final episode, about how his childhood tv show idol "Becomes human again" in the end. I believe this was foreshadowing Johan feeling acceptance for himself, finally. Tenma told him he had a name and that his mother loves him very much. After this, he runs away. It's such a sweet parallel to the scene where Tenma first sits with Johan as a child when he's recovery from his first bullet shot in the hospital. He heard everything Tenma said him about wanting someone dead, so he commits the murders for Tenma and vanishes to continue more killing. Now he hears Tenma tell him he is loved and has identity, so he disappears once again, but this time to start a new, better life.
Every little bit of Johan Liebert's psyche and personality built is especially made and well-crafted character development that envelops his own theoretical motivations and and seen sensingly his cunningly aura in this. The song Red Pieces is actually fitted to find out what Johan ticks in this video and I can understand the time line too. The cinematography and the effects and every little scene of Johan are simply done nicely and bravobally.
4:35 to 4:52 My favorite scene 4:41 "I tried so hard" Johan fell... What a great Impact!! Johan got me hard there. Even though he did so many terrible things and referred as a Devil,Anti-Christ and next Adolf Hitler... his childhood soo horrible and messed up..I can't help to symphatize at the same time fear..
ya. Your childhood while growing up has the biggest influence of what you can become on the long run. Franz Bonaparte tapped the unforgivable and experimented on the twins innocence. The one who was left alone was the target of the Monster Without Name storybook. He brainwashed the traumatized little Johan and what became the beginning of misunderstanding as well as his carnage. It was what started the killing and left him only acknowledging his other half. They (Franz and Kinderheim 511) messed him up so bad. No one had made an impact and stopped him until Dr. Tenma came along. Must be why Dr. Tenma is special, inspite of Johan's attempt of kinda tainting him. The perfect suicide = Killing all those who knew him ( I wonder what of Nina though) and the killing must come from Dr. Tenma since he wanted for Tenma to kill. Ending his life the way he wants it huh and Dr. Tenma will see the end just as Roberto's been saying according to plan. Oh well. Tenma did not see it though, coz he wasn't the one who pulled the trigger. On the other hand, Wim's father's action shred a glimmer light that not all parents will give up their own child. Boo hoo, Johan. :( Sad. Who is The Real Monster? When everyone has a hidden monster inside them fearful of being tapped. To Johan's eyes Dr. Tenma must be a curious thing.
Aoi Sora I think that Johan forgot his past and he killed people because it was his instinct, but when he opened that book he remained so traumatized that he wanted to do the perfect suicide because he wanted to stop that horrible thing that is named life.

That was amazing, I could tell you put a lot of work into this AMV. The song is beautiful and this sums up Johan's life amazingly. Thank you for making this AMV. Despite what Johan did, I still can't help but feel sorry for him...
Ready Beto Well actually if you look into it you can see that he was made into what he is because of the fact he took on the memories from hearing his sister Anna's story, he thought that he lived the experience of being read the books at the book readings that Franz Bonaparta did all those years back for his experiment. He actually thought that he and his sister were the same person, I assume this is because his Mum basically made it look like she only had one kid this whole time, dressing up Johan like Anna, he kinda didn't have his own personality :c You see what I'm getting at? He may not have turned out this way if these things did not happe. Johan obviously was an impressionable person, just like Roberto was and they both couldn't fight the brainwashing that was conducted and this is why I feel sorry for him. I hope this explains enough for you
It seems to me that Johan as Tenma, wanned everyone to be equal, the difference between them, is that Johan was the perfect example of falsehood of that preposition, and he knew that perfectly, thats why he tried intensely to show Tenma that what he was thinking was not true, even if he wanted it to be.
This is one of the best AMVs I have ever seen. The music/song in background is really beautiful. I want to feel sorry for Johan Liebert but then I realise there's Anna too who had the same past and she was the one who witnessed things at Red Rose Mansion with her eyes but she didn't turn into a Monster, but then I also realise Johan lived in a hell like 511 Kinderheim too while Anna didn't, but then again, I realise he had killed two (or more) people even before going to that hell, so was he turned into a Monster even before going to that orphanage and were the causes that: 'he listened to the stories and things Anna told and made a much more horrible picture of them in his mind' and 'the moment when his had to choose who would go for the experiments, as according to Johan "Who was the unwanted one?"'? Monster's story is really complex and one of the GOATs.
We can say that Johan had a criminal instinct and also a human one. That explains why he killed the adoptive parents and after that he put Ana to shoot him .It was the human part of him.He hated himself so much that he wanted to kill himself. After the operation,he lost his memories but the criminal instinct remained so he killed people because “Why not?” .After he discovered the book with the monster without a name, his memories came back and he hated himself again and what he wanted to do was to do the perfect suicide. He wanted that nobody knows about his story. That’s my opinion about Johan
Man, it's such a great video. It shows perfectly the feelings inside "the monster". He evolves from madness to sadness, and then to peace. Johan is such a great character and I thank God for Urasawa and all of his masterpiece creations.
@@danielfahimislam3166 Are you sure about that? How much identity could you have if even your birth was nothing more than an experiment planned by evil people? How could you seem yourself with an identity if even your mom dressed you like your sister? Or how could you have an identity after those sessions in the kinderheim 511 where all they tried to do was to make him an assasing and make him forget everything he liked. He even got shot by the only person in the world that he loved, because she didnt forgive him for his actions. I think the series makes it pretty clear that the name is just another way of representing the lack of personality that Johan has.
Not bad. Actually became a fan of the song because of this AMV. Pretty good for a Christian band, even if the lead singer can't hit that high note anymore

METTATON EX I know, even being a psycopath, that dont make you kill people, but he dont feel nothing. Its the same at the very end, lol.
The best Johan's amv ever!
Thank you !
After 7 years, I'm here again and I feel a lot of pain, HIS PAIN, MA BOY T . T
My Johan is the best! Love ❤
Yess
I'm crying and I don't know why, but this video hit me so hard!
The story of Johann is sad
Johan is a masterpiece...😉
this anime was very meaningful
I really pity him.The fact that you don't have an identity must be the worst thing in the world.
He always had an identity, he just didn't have a name.
Johan is my favourite villain....
Not bad. Actually became a fan of the song because of this AMV. Pretty good for a Christian band, even if the lead singer can't hit that high note anymore
THIS MASTERPIECE SHOULD BE GET MORE ATTENTION
Best Character - Best Anime - Best Amv -Best Video ❤
Those are facts
I think same to
This AMV really hit me hard.. I hated Johan all this time. But this shows how his life was so miserable and horrible. At a young age, he saw everything which lead him to being a real monster..
I know new anime comes out that’s awesome and that there are titles that get bogged down because of another new anime’s popularity, but this needs to be said: a lot of the other titles don’t have the same sting as monster or other anime classics, modern or otherwise
I love monster so much ❤️

The Greatest Villain ever created
This anime clearly shows how he loved someone..but had a psychological issue
Prolly the oldest johan amv
This anime is perfect everyone says that the ending is bad but its hint many signs of good ending like at bed was messed up that mean he is no longer the monster bcz lunge said after johan's hotel that it is work of a demon bcz in order to erase his existence everything have be place as it was before and also Johan got a name at the end 🥲💔
