I understand because of safety concerns they are keeping the middle gate closed. However I worry if something really happens the masses of people in the yard will not be able to get out in time.
Yes John, you're absolutely right. At 7:50 you can see the chain hanging and flying around, and the chain under the horses head is tight, probably upsetting the horse. Yes, same horse, Tabor, only mark i can see is a small white dot low on his right front leg. Thor is on the right.
Enjoyed partly one watching part two.
Lord on earth WHO leaves a baby in a pushchair ALONE... ANYWHERE...shocking
I don't care what language you speak. When a horse is about to trample you, move your . You really shouldn't need anyone to tell you in your language that you are about to be smashed against the wall, and then trampled. PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE, MOVE AWAY!! And they say animals are dumb. Well, not hardly.
With so few people actually living in the country or having experience with large animals, I find that I often see people without common sense anymore. I guess that common sense is just not very common nowadays.
Do the tour guides have to book in, or just all turn up at the same time.?
@@SalyLuz-hc6he i've noticed same thing about common sense these days...just don't seem to exist anymore...so sad too
Do the idiots not understand when the guard yells. GET BACK. that’s exactly what he means.
Perhaps not. If they don’t speak English, and they can’t read the signs on the wall, and if they have absolutely no experience with large animals or farms, then they probably don’t know how to behave around large animals. Sad!

No, it's not sad. People need to realize these are guards and horses on duty. This is their job and if they can't read the signs, they need to get an app on their phone that can translate it for them.@SalyLuz-hc6he
"But I paid for my holiday!!!!!!!"
Surely, the ones who speak English would know. But the Chinese, Italians, Japanese, Russian, Lebanese, Columbians, French, Germans - I doubt. You must think very highly of your ability to understand English. 🙄
Those horses are so beautiful. One never gets tired of watching them
TBS They're really are.😊 @LondonCityWalks have you seen Bradford lately?
TOO MANY TOURISTS THEY SHOULD BE MOVED ON. UNFAIR ON GUARDS AND HORSES 🤔
You don’t have to speak English to understand to run when a horse starts coming towards you.
THANK YOU!!😮😮
i thought same thing....they just tried getting closer to wall....if they had gotten kicked would have been their own fault
Thank you. Are they blind😊
I wonder if they got scared and froze
The curb chain had become detached at one side, which may have been upsetting the horse. I'm guessing they took the horse into the stable yard and sorted it out, so the horse was much calmer on his return.
Yep ..agree
My thought too
If it is the same horse which is more than likely, it could've been something else like the bit pinching his lip or something caught under the saddle or strap, which is causing discomfort, which is why the horse returned so quickly and more relaxed after it was adjusted. It's not as if they can tell us! Oh! For us humans to be more telepathic with our animal friends! The day will come! I'm a little telepathic with my daughter at times, which she finds a little frustrating! 😅 So we're beginning to evolve genetically as I'm not the only one. 😊
Maybe a calming juice?
Spot on @angelaearthy5161 - you could see it dangling from the left hand side of his bit and every head movement of the horse made it jangle and move around under his head where he can't clearly see it. No wonder he was getting spooked.
Tabor's rider is a riding instructor, indicated by the stirrup badge on his right arm, which thus explains his excellent control when the horse was playing up. Great videos, thanks for posting!
Good eye!
Thank you for the information.
I'm sorry, but it doesn't matter what language you speak, when the back end of a horse is coming at you, especially one of a horse that big, you MOVE your own back end out of the way... I would think that's a universal language like a Stop Sign... OMG.. I was kicked by a horse super hard as a kid and MAN was that a life lesson... Glad they were okay and didn't get squashed or kicked... Trooper did a great job trying to control the horse..
I think they just froze.
Well, they are a great ambassadors for France. 😂
Thans again John, your vids are the best...your insight and knowledge far surpass any other channel on TH-cam.
Poor horses. Leave the guards and there horses alone. They do a great job.
It's not uncommon for a horse to act up. They can be a moody ones. Pawing the ground is the horse protesting. I love watching the horse and trooper. The trooper did a great job with the horse.
Your temperature today is hot for London, however here in Mexico we've had 41-45 degrees across the country along with
electricity cuts!!!
Today 44! Horses, all animals feel the heat too. It must be horrible to be continually mauled by idiots, surrounded by hundreds. These guards and horses are absolute heroes. John , it's not a language barrier,, everyone understands a horse playing up!! It's plain stupidity.
You're a hero too, out in those crowds and heat. Your pictures at the beginning of video1 are absolutely wonderful .
Definitely the most shouts in any video I have ever filmed! How many can you count? 💪
4 at 46:02 I think.
Too many(???)! 😊
I’m sorry but no matter what language you speak or understand if a horse is upset and pinning you against a wall you get out of the way….
Yes but that requires having Common Sense. Unfortunately Common Sense doesn’t grow in everyone’s garden.
😅😅😅😅
Having watched Horse Guards for nearly 4 yrs, it seems to me that apart from no common sense, there is oblivion with regard to the actual size and WEIGHT of the horse. 600kgs-800kgs. (Drum horses even bigger and heavier.) The weight alone can flatten a human. I think tour guides need to learn about horse behaviour and impart that knowledge to their tour groups. The simple signal of a horse's ears flattened back is a clear indication of horsey not happy, move away from it.
People taking pictures should not be encouraging people to stand closer to the horse. Every human and animal has it's comfort zone.
Sure, it adds to the excitement when a Boxman, Gatesman or Chitsman (Chicksman) shout at tourists. Personally I would like a responsible person of authority (e.g. Retired Cavalry) standing at each horse box stopping people getting too close to the horse, or touching the horse (because that inevitably leads to rein grabbing, horse
eye poking etc.). Tourists need to know their boundaries and learn that Cavalry horses are highly trained and should be admired for their stature, not irritated by tourists.
I am just an old Gran (77) who loves the Military, parades, ceremonies and admiring the Cavalry in their spectacular uniforms and magnificent horses, but gets grumpy with stupid tourists 🤷🤦🏼♀️🤗
If you have any common sense you would sense this and move. However as we now see this worldwide, common sense is no longer what many humans have?
I have written before about my Grandfather, the horse whisperer, He was there, at the racecourse, one day helping settle the horses for the start, this was before stalls .They were very young, one in particular was really skittish. Anyway Grandad settled him well, and started to walk away. He heard some shouting and realised that no matter what the jockey did the horse was determined to follow Grandad who had to take him back.
Why do people have to get Soo close to the horses
I think this is as close as some people have ever been to a horse which might account for the need to touch it.
The chain under Tabor's chin was not connected to both sides. When he was fussing I noticed the length of chain hanging on his right side. He came out chain fixed.
Yes, the Curb chain had become detached at one side, meaning the trooper would have had less control.
About that "unhappy horse,it appeared he was possibly having a problem with either the right side of his face or his bit. He was using his right leg to paw the ground. That's what I saw, anyway. BTW, you always do a great job and you're very funny!
It makes me so mad the way these tourists treat the Troopers. They try their best to push their buttons and it makes me so mad because there's no sense in it. Stupidity just plain stupidity. Sending love from USA.
Tabor reminds me of my horse who was also 18.5 hands high and jet black without any markings other than a little white star on his forehead.
Tabor is a stunning horse with a cheeky side to him.❤️
HOLY COW!!!!!! WHY ARE THERE NO LIMITS TO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE?
It is a public highway
People need to stay away from the horses
The troopers boots look rigid they must be so difficult to walk in. I bet they hurt like hell 😊
They are riding boots
There is a documentary, where they show 12 new Troopers, learning to ride, falling off, putting the saddle on back to front. Very entertaining BUT it shows the Trooper wearing their boots for the first time. Penguins came to mind.😅
The tourist that gave a slap is probably a horse person. That’s what we all do to praise them. 😊

It's all those people! I don't blame the horse. I wouldn't want to work either!!!!!
Bless the trooper bring horse a drink ,reaction from horse so cool .❤
People are just charging through the gates. Not thinking of others, stop crowding the horses.💂🐎✨️💖🤗 ty for your service 💂 🐎 ✨️
Hi John from Atlanta, Georgia U.S.A. Wow what an exciting day at Horse Guards. Thanks for staying for part 2.
Good for the horse to laugh at these Tourists who just don't respect the Guards or Horses that deserve respect these are amazing people plus stunning Horses
I suspect that some of his kit was irritating him, and they fixed it. Lovely to see the fellow Kiwi.
Ditto re fellow Kiwi!
Ditto ditto 🙋♀️
Give the horse breathing room
John thanks for being there today two of my favorite guards where there today, the number two guard all in brown ,and the guard on the horse great shots also on them .
A question I ask myself every day nowadays.. what's wrong with people?
I find that common sense is just not very common any more. Sad!!
If we knew that answer, there would be word peace.
No longer common sense, it's now common stupidity or common dense.
@@jeannetteyin2531 truth!
That trooper has the stirrup patch…he is one of the best. They give him the most challenging evidently.
I agree he gets the most horses having issues & naturally then has the most horses playing up. He’s an excellent rider & handles the horses beautifully.
Is that the emblem on the right sleeve of his uniform? I had noticed that some of the troopers have them and some don’t. This trooper is amazing with horses that are unsettled so makes perfect sense ❤
@@LauraKeytethe stirrup patch he is one of the best.
@@ShellLAn instructor.😊
Surely they could see what was happening. Dont have to speak the language
I think the two ladies who almost got squashed, were like rabbits in headlights, & just got frozen on the spot as to what to do!😅
Yeah think it happened so fast by the time they realized what was happening, the horse was almost pinning them to the wall, and they weren't sure which way the horse was going to go. I get it. I freeze in utter fear when I see a bat. I would never hurt one and many of them I think are cute but yup I freeze up when I see them flying around in real life.
I think SCREAMING “GET BACK” should translate the same in any language! 😮😮😮😮
If it’s the same horse, the tack has been repaired and the tie down altered. Both of which could make him calmer. 🤷🏻♀️
Different horse , first horse had a martingale and his mane lying on his offside ,second horse Tabor , no martingale mane on near side .
Parts 1 & 2 today 🎉. Thank you John.
What a day John! Phew! The numbers are seriously worrying, especially when the horses have a meltdown. I really thought those two French ladies had had it! Great shouting from the Troopers when they've needed to. Really enjoyable. 🥰
It seems when people go on vacation they forget to pack the most important itinerary -- their brain and common sense. But then again -- your can’t fix stupid’
Cos they are on holiday. They have paid their money. So therefore they want their money's worth, that a photo and pat the horse, and we're not waiting.
If the bit was not sitting right it might have been adjusted to make him more comfortable.
One schout and everybody’s out!!! Fantastic 😂
Our troopers are so calm and incredibly skilled.
Perhaps once they sorted the bridal, the horse was happier.
Yes, I agree the bridal or bit was an issue for the horse.
Omg. People get too close
Poor horse 😮
Imagine the constant babble to the delicate ears of the horses day in and day out. Is it any wonder that they react?
Thank you for two brilliant and very eventful videos today. Lots going on and your commentary wonderful as always
LOL!!! I could hear the dinging and thought it was coming from my cell phone and was checking it when you suddenly apologized and shut down. Gave me a laugh. Now watching part 2. Enjoy your channel the most. Your commentary is both informative and hilarious. Thanks for the entertainment.
We’ve got 26 Celsius in Vancouver Canada today. Take care John.
Thank you John for the two part videos in the blazing sun. Season of madness and stupidity from tourists begins. Best wishes to all staff at Horse Guards two and four legged. ❤❤
It's possible the first time the horse came out of the box, they started to get a new horse ready, and they took him off when the new horse was ready. The guard dismounts then mounts in a couple of minutes. I suspect the Corporal of Horse was prepared for this.
They fixed his chain. You nailed it John. It was pulling on him.
Beautiful horses and and Kings guards godbless Each And everyone of them lol Always ❤❤❤❤❤❤xxxxxxxx
Hi John you have the patience of a saint coping with the weather and clown tourists, respect to you. Also for respecting the privacy of whoever the ambulance was for. Wish so much nobody was badly hurt. Great video, you do make me laugh!!! Thank you.
I don’t get why people stand in front of the gatesmen and just stare at them. What do they think is going to happen? Just look, take in that beautiful uniform, marvel at how disciplined the guard is, and MOVE ON! That would take all of five minutes.
Yes but some tourist just do not get that horses are real animals , ( I grew up on a farm with horses, cows, pigs and sheep- animals have minds of their own and are not pets ).
I also grew up on a farm, and all my extended family around me were Farmers as well. It seems today that many people don’t ever get the kind of real life experiences that help them develop common sense; and it doesn’t help that neither do most people have personal experience with any large animal or livestock at all. I think that they think this large animal would never hurt them. So many people have over romanticized & anthropomorphized animals, that they just can’t conceive of any animal actually injuring them!
I say more young people need to spend some part of school volunteering on a farm. This is such an important part of our history! I’m fortunate to live about 15 miles from a Living History Farm, re-creating family life from the 1880s with the same breeds of traditional animals & crops appropriate for the time & area. Once a month they open up for Saturday morning chores, and you can come and help them feed and water chickens, pigs, sheep, cows, horses, collect the eggs, shovel a bit of manure, etc. If it’s the right time of year you may be able to milk a cow, watch manual sheep shearing or horse plowing & grain planting. There are usually some hands-on activities such as shelling corn off the cob. In winter sometimes we got to go on a sleigh ride in the snow! You can see a working wood shop & blacksmith, and often people spinning wool, weaving, knitting, gardening , cooking on a cast iron wood stove etc. of course we got to taste some of whatever they were baking! I’ve been appalled about some of the answers we hear from other people bringing city kids out, children who have no idea where their milk comes from. A few of them said the store, but not one said a cow! Doing a few chores at different times of year can really help you appreciate how easy most of us have it in our lives. 💙👩🏼🌾🖖🏼
I love looking at these wonderful horses❤
Yay! Hello, New Zealand and Australia. Great seeing one of you on London City Walks.
They need to shut the doors immediately because horses can see behind them without turning their heads. So seeing the crowds in front and behind might be disturbing to the horse.
The Gatesman look how shiny his helmet sword and chest plate is. Beautiful
I couldn't go all them people . I would turn and run the other way lol
the small chain by the bit wasnt fastened on one side it was swinging about
It can't do any good for the horse with them people crowding him.
I'm not surprised he doesn't want to work plus it's hot.
You're doing such a great job John.
Will there come a time when the horses simply won't be displayed due to the crush of people? What I'm seeing is mindboggling.
I wonder that also, our world is going crazy
I’m pretty sure the horse taken off was Sangin. He has the sheepskin around the girth, Tabor doesn’t.
He also has a martingale which Tabor doesn't . So far Sangin is the only horse I've seen with a martingale .
Tabor is a stunning beautiful horse.
The chain that goes under the chin is called a curb chain this had come loose and means the rider doesn't have as much control as they would if it was on
Hi there John...another busy day! I was happy to see the guards remove their chest pieces today with the heat..as always a pleasure! TFS!
I watched this on my tablet and left a comment that it was the same horse as John said. I am now commenting from my computer instead of my tablet after rewatching this again. That some of the gear appeared to have been change. Such as the cinch is whitish but on this horse, which John as said is Tabor, the cinch is different. So the person that pointed out the difference in how the mane is laying is correct. It is different horses.
Love the sly "flip off" by the Police Iofficer at the 27:00 minute mark.
Why do people have to stand in front of some one having there photo being taken? So rude & disrespectful.
Love the two very videos and I do believe that’s is the most shouts in one video you’ve filmed since I started watching. It’s rainy here in NJ after two days of 80 degrees warm weather
John you're the best.great video.
Thank you so much for Brighting up my days much love ❤
Was looking forward to French toast! 😂 Only kidding!
French Fried.😊
The old saying - you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink - 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
44.20 Take a seat make yourselves at home 😂😂 John you crack me up 😂
He is a beautiful horse again like Q10 I’m hoping to come to London this year my first port of call will be Horseguards and to say hello John
I despair of people I really do 🤦♀️ those women, for goodness sake. Stay away. Can’t believe you had to tell them to move 🤷♀️
Hello John from Australia - This is a good example of when to shut the gates to control the number of people, not only for their protection but for the protection of the horses and guards. Why doesn't someone wake up and take this into consideration. One day someone, visitor, guard or horse is going to be badly injured and then they will have to be accountable. Love the horse's smile he knows he's a star.
That horse is on strike 😂😂❤❤❤🎉
This trooper is a riding instructor so probably why he gets the horses that act up.
I couldn’t see which part of the harness you were talking about but did you mean the curb chain which prevents the bit from rotating in the horse’s mouth which could make it very uncomfortable. If they adjusted the curb chain it wouldn’t have taken long and would have made a huge difference to how the horse was feeling.
It doesn’t matter where those two tourists came from or what language they speak - if a huge horse is prancing around in front of you and no one knows which direction it will go to just standing there up against a wall which it could flatten you up against at any minute translates as “dumb” in any language.
So stupid to leave a baby unattended in crowd at alone in a crowd that large
I like this new Gatesman.
1st horse had a standing martingale on and was being ridden on the bradoon. 2nd horse no martingale and ridden on the curb bit. Definitely different horse. Forelock is different and mane is on opposite side.
Wow what an "interesting" day 😅 you want us to count the "shouts" but I wanted to count your sorries 😅 I'm pretty sure yours outnumbered the guards 😂 you were surely kept on your toes today, cheers from a kiwi 😊
The sun is out and there’s idiots about!
I think you were right the chain did look rather tight and now it looks loser, I wonder if that was the reason John?
Loved the shouts.
An incredible amount of horsemanship the trooper ♥️
Thanks for another great video , I counted 7 shouts. I speak English and Spanish but if a horse was so near to me I’d move without anyone telling me to whatever the language.
I think he has scared the tourists 😂😂
Hi to all the Aussies in London ❤ ,love to be one of thoes Aussie one day (never happen ) lucky to be able to watch on TH-cam ,thanks so much john❤
When you were talking to the NZ lady, I think you missed seeing the Corporal of Horse tell 2 kids off for leaning on box doors.
Maybe bridle & bit were fixed back in stable.
Sad. These horses are so well trained but do withstand so much stimulation from people, noise, sirens, standing still for so long and being touched. God bless the troopers who love and handle them ❤
Love you narrator. Love your voice, love your sense of humor and your laugh. I have watched videos just because you're narrating it. Thank you so much 🙏🙏😅😅😅❤❤❤
Also, people need to recognize the signs if a horses throwing its head back-and-forth up-and-down It's irritated if it's nipping or it's ears are back. Don't go near it and again, don't touch the rains. And if you tickle the nose of a horse, that's the most soft place a horse and to them it feels like a fly landing, so it makes them mad.❤❤
