Ok guys, you now have me officially addicted to your channel. I have been on the road for ten years, I'm 67 and don't plan on giving up this lifestyle anytime soon. I hope I will bump into you both before you leave our shores. All the best.
hahah john we can't be that addictive 😂 but the support means alot to keep us making content! we would love to meet all our loyal watchers and would be awesome to catch up. were leaving Christchurch in the morning making our way down south.
If you do use soap or shampoos in our rivers please only use eco friendly products e.g. the eco store range or ideally don't use soaps. Also be very careful around handling wild mushrooms there are many extremely deadly ones around in the forests
That is a great comment. I always find it interesting that people talk about how beautiful and clean NZ is and then pollute it with their soap and shampoo!
I love how you decided to leave the walking stick incase someone needed it, how thoughtful. 😊. Didn’t realise there was a hiking trail in hanmer either 😅 the hot pools are way better in winter, it looks so different in summer. You guys are so cool and down to earth I’m loving these episodes can’t wait for the next one 😊
Awesome coverage of Hamner Springs guys. Beautiful pine forests and well worth the 200m (600 foot climb) up the hill for those views. The drone really gave a great perspective of the hot pools and town from above and also the mountains and green valleys. Excellent coverage of the water slides Glen. The South Island has such diverse landscapes compared to the North Island.
Going up for a short break to Hanmer from Dunedin in January - love it there and always spend a day at the pools. Thanks for yet another fantastic video! ❤
This is such an awesome video! Thank you both so much for sharing your thoughts and experiences. We appreciate the time and effort it takes to make a video like this! Just loved watching it and we have subscribed to you your channel so we can see more from you guys. Love your work!
I've been catching up on your channel and love you guys. I am originally from Wellington (now live in Auckland) but we have a motorhome so travel New Zealand. We have travelled much of the South Island so will be looking forward to more of your adventures. We were recently in Dublin so I'm loving your accent Glen :) We are off back to the South Island for 8 weeks next March and can't wait!!
Hanmer in summer is great but even better in the winter. Snows most years and if you lucky enough to be in hot pools when it does it is so good, not so much for the slides though
Enjoying your travel show. Its very honest. Don't ever feel like you can not criticise. While I love your total enjoyment in your travel, you can point out overpricing, poor services and anything you see lacking. Watching you guys in Hamner was an experience for me as it was a village built around a hospital with natural springs. The Hospital is now shut, but it was originally for shell shocked WW1 vets to rest & recoup... from shell shock to syphilis. Many TB (consumption) sufferers. Later it became to premier detox/rehab in NZ. I spent new years eve 2000 in there... 5 months recovering from heroin and crack cocaine addiction. Was a wonderful place. I guess tourism is their new reality. Surprised no mention of the Hospital... maybe its gone ... dunno. Thanks for the blog. The answer to the question... is it worth it? I would say NO. For use of the pools that is ridiculous pricing. However, if the freedom camping was safe and clean then... thats a win. Theres the original bungee jumping bridge not far from there. Do that if you wanna spend money. ... and if the scenery is blowing your mind head further south. Look me up in wellington on yr way back ;)
My father spent 3 months there for alcoholism. It didn't work. His mate went up on the bus to pick him up and got him drunk on the way home. He died of alcoholism.
Mountain bike tracks galore. My wife loves them. Got to spend a few days in Hanmer Springs after she biked the Molesworth Track. Now that is nice countryside. The pools are definitely overpriced but managed to con my wife into buying a couple of entry tickets so I could have a nice soak on the last day of our stay. Keep up the great work telling us your story of the trip
it's wonderful to see you both enjoying your travels here in NZ, but I hope you do understand that we want to protect our environment. Freedom camping with only a car does mean you will be relieving yourselves outdoors, and washing in our rivers and creeks. If you were the only ones doing this, it would not be such a problem, but come the summer and our country is swarming with "freedom campers''', and many beautiful places become polluted and disgusting. It makes many people wonder about the true value of tourism.
Loving your videos, you are great ambassadors for New Zealand. I also love your accents which I find hard to understand. I keep on hearing you say madam all the time, finally realising you are saying Mado 😂 not to mention how cute is Mado saying things like tink and termal. Cheers
Love the love ❤️ thanks for the special comment and yeah I never stop saying Mado hahah and mado is starting to pick up my bad habbits with my accent 😂
The price at the pools went up quite a while ago when they included the hydroslide in the ticket; even for those of us who dont use it!! However considering that you can spend all day there if you want it isnt too bad.
As someone from Christchurch (around 80-90 minutes away) Hanmer its self is good, but I feel the hot pools are very much over priced, as is the food and beverage around the township.
Loving your videos. Keep them rolling. We call those ‘mountains’ hills. Wont be long and you will see real mountains. The pine forest you guys walked through is lovely. Douglas fir grows super fast here in New Zealand, unfortunately it means that they are not as strong as they are in their natural habitat. Everytime there are big storms or cyclones the pine trees get damaged. Our neighbours lost over a 100 trees during the last cyclone. In contrast, we live in the bush (native forest) and only a few branchs were broken. My irish ancestors came from Tally
It's fun hiring kayaks on the lake in St Arnaud. north of Hamner Springs. The lake is a good size and between the mountains and forests. Really nice, but take plenty of insect repellant. Also, Waikoropupu springs on the west coast is a Must!
St arnauds one of my uncle huge farm locations ! it kinda remote my mum tried to contact her Brother to get Mando & Glen a job! he got three farms and multi milion dollars of debt !
I have been following your trip and enjoying but please respect our rivers and don’t use soap to wash in them.Take the water over land and wash there thanks.

Totally agree - buy a bucket and soap up and rinse away from the water. The aquatic life will thank you for it. Also you could be fined for polluting the waterways if caught..
Hammer Springs, Queenstown etc are pretty expensive what with being very touristy and alot of products is shipped from North Island as you saw on the ferry ⛴️ to the South Island which also contributes to the high cost.
Lol awesome trip guys ,last time i was in Hamner at the pools all the people left the pool i was entering as im covered in Tattoos😅 the older crowd weren't to keen but the girls were hahajaha
Naw Gorgeous video Guys ! , if your Near Gisborne again (East coast of the north island) holler out and we can do something ! :) , ALL the very best ! , ... Keep the video's up "you guys" , AS your amazing ! and a privilege to watch , ........
I'm sure you're aware of freedom camping rules ie self contained, what are you doing for toilet facilities? The SI is very popular for freedom camping but that makes the authorities more strict, don't end up getting fines.
i hope if you have time - you make it over to takaka. and up to farewell spit. it is worth the diversion - (if you end up doing the larger circuit back) many good little camp zones and good sorts.
Guys, be sure you monitor your time in the sun 🌞 and wear UV shirt and or sunblock as down here, we have the highest skin cancer rate in the world 🌎 with the depleted Ozone later and high UV radiation. There's some that say it's a myth but I've found you can actually feel your skin burning when in the sun to long. Be safe guys.
Were all on top of that! always applying suncream every morning and during the day when needed but unfortunately that one time when we went into the hot pool area we realised we forgot the suncream!!
Pssst - don't use soap in our streams and rivers, regardless of what the ingredients are. You're putting fat and body fats in the water and It's not supposed to be there.
the track at hammer springs looks like Grampains track in nelson top colingwood st , except you get views of mountains & water what my parents see everyday waking up . Im sure you will come up west coast to Abel tasman eventually after seeing Queenstown
Omg get over yourself. I wonder what percentage of homes in New Zealand have septic tanks? I bet you have one too. Do you think a bar of bath soap in the river is any worse than the toilet cleaner you use to scrub your toilet bowl with and your 45 minute shower with 50 pumps of body wash and your 5 loads of washing a day. Now Google what the septic tank in your backyard looks like underground. Where do you think rivers get their water from? It doesn't just flow off a mountain it is fed with groundwater for it's entire course. That groundwater has your entire septic tank leeching into it. Soap is biodegradable.
@@sonnyday6830 yeah that too but the incidence of human waste in virtually all waterways is now very high causing bacterial diseases like giardiasis. People just need to think about where they wash and toilet themselves. Not hard really.
Its a bit on the pricey side! its more of a family place for the kids though as it has alot more then the hot pools so thats why you pay abit more it seems.
that slide wasnt there when i was a child ! when you fly to sydney or Goldcoast the slides are nuts at wet in wild ! has long drop hatch if you have the guts to do it 20 metre high

A trip to the pools at Night during winter is magical !
I love those hot pools in winter when it has snowed. My old arthritic bones and joints just love it!
This place is a gem of a place in winter there's snow everywhere, you can enjoy the hot pools in the winter wonderland
That was the best part of your video seeing and hearing you both screaming with joy and fun down the slides
That was the best part of the day hahah
Hamner is fantastic in the winter. Smow on the ground and 40c natural hot pools.
sounds like paradise in the winter but quite different in the summer!

I've always wondered what Hanmer Springs looks like. Thank you.
it looks like Golden bay without a ocean
Loving your travels guys - awesome seeing Hanmer Springs again, just like I remember it but way more expensive these days!

Always ask locals about hot pools. There are a lot of free hot pools throughout New Zealand. Mostly with a bush walk to them.
That's true, we actually experienced a few free once around Rotorua!
