This game is criminally underrated. The game has no actual "hitreg" issues like Gman stated in the video, however there was really no way he would've known that at the time he made this. The sight alignment is actually taken into account in the bullet's point of impact(versus Point of aim), IE if the front sight has swayed below the rear sight notch, the shot will hit low. But the only way we really know this now is because there's a significantly refined shooting range in the recent compound update.

As an American who likes to shoot guns, the re-holstering thing is huge in gun culture. Re-holstering is the most dangerous thing any hobbyist shooter will do without going into a firefight. That's why most people just use shooting benches at the range, but if you carry, then it becomes dangerous to pull out your carry firearm simply because you'll need to re-holster it. Drawing or unholstering is not nearly as dangerous, but can be if you're not wearing the right clothes.

I actually really like how jovial the narrator is sometimes, and then suddenly you have a tape about a guy wanting to kill his wife and kids and then himself, and the music just starts swelling into this horrifying drone, and the gun starts turning on you... And then afterwards there's a tape about how mental wounds can heal with time, and that one should take their time with shit, and whatnot. It's... Idk, it's just feels so real, yknow? Kinda reflects how some people's mental illnesses are, like bipolar and shit? Suddenly, you're all the way down in the pit, ready to go apeshit, and then something bright and beautiful and calm happens. Then again, I've never really dealt with issues like that myself, I've just had friends and loved ones with problems like that.
Anyways, it's also super tense, and I like that. When you hear a turret beeping, and you know you only have two loaded cylinders left, or when you first find ceiling turrets and you're caught off guard totally. That's shock. And the soundtrack that plays when a turret comes into view, or detects you, holy shit.

Also yeah the tone shifts are definitely intentional, showing that firearms are both just a tool like any other with interesting history and funny anecdotes, but also reminders to take them seriously, they're not toys, and they're only a bad thought away from causing major damage. Hell one of the tapes even starts with jokes about how the Hi-Point has a dumb name, and ends with how the inventor of Hi-Point never really recovered from learning one of his weapons was used in a school shooting. So it's not like the tonal shift is exclusively from tape to tape, it's clearly intended as it happens even within tapes.

To those who don't know; the metal that the shell are made of would expand from the heat witch is why the eject rod is needed to shove the bigger shells out of the tiny hole, they also can't replace the rod with bigger holes for the expanded rounds because when they are fresh they'll have too much space and either can't get hit by the action pin, or the bullet will slam into the barrel due to misalignment.

One of the most common things I see is that "Receiver 2 is a gun/firearm sim".
    That's not the case.
Receiver 2 is an exercise in zen state and being able to complete a complex set of constructions on the fly and under stress. The fact that the game is focused on firearms is like the skin over top the design.
There's a reason why there's so many binds for controls versus something simplified. For the newer player, something as simple as quickly reloading is going to end up in fumbling. On the other hand, the player who has internalized the binds can clear a malfunction without hesitation and re-engage immediately.

I've seen a lot of people, especially steam reviewers, critique the too many buttons thing, and I really disagree. There's a learning curve for sure, but arguably the main focus of the game is fostering a respect for the danger guns present by making you think about every thing you do to use them. E opens the cylinder and R closes it because those are two different actions. I don't mean to imply that people critical of the system would prefer the whole thing was simplified to pressing R, but there are fewer steps between Receiver's system and that than one might think. Also you get used to it pretty quickly and you feel like a badass when you can go through the whole process without the help menu. I'm not a diehard fan, I just want the main focus of criticism to be on the lack of content.

While I agree with your criticisms on the basis of "fun," I think most of the weird design decisions are meant to emphasize its themes and give the player full control over their actions.
    - I think the de-ranking system is meant to hammer the idea of controlled, deliberate procedure into the player. I just wish it kicked in at the third level instead of the second, since level 3 is basically where Receiver 1 already was.
    - Having to repeatedly mash W to run gives the player full control over their movement speed, as the speed you press it changes the speed you move. Unnecessary, but the idea is sound.
    - Having each action bound to different keys is less arbitrary than it might seem at first, as nearly every key has some kind of synonymous action. Z is ALWAYS tied to loading bullets into, R is always tied to slide operation, E is always tied to manipulating something separate from the gun. V is for some kind of gun-specific function.
So, no, the gameplay design has very little to do with "fun" or any kind of efficiency, but it does fully embrace full player control over their actions, and learning those bizarre controls and mastering your own style of deliberate procedure is part of what eventually leads to success.
Ultimately, seems like you had a good time with it, and I fully agree with just how mean the RNG and holster misfires are. I just personally find the controls and gameplay loop MOSTLY feed into its core narratives rather well, which I, in turn, find extremely compelling.
Good vid, mate! Greetings from muthafuggin' TEXAS!

I think it should also be mentioned that the tapes, are 'made' by one guy, based that it's always the same narrator, of some bat-shit crazy, crackpot, conspiracy, doomsday cult. While this is purely conjecture on my part, this is highly reminiscent of cults and sects that also employ this sort of tier system, like Scientology for instance. Based on this, it would only make sense that the game reflects the cult part as repetition of, at the end of the day, frivolous, menial tasks and listening over and over again to tapes of some less then 'clear' of mind narrator.
The narrator always seems to be very distraught when he talks about their dogma, while joyously recounting gun history, probably in part to make him seam paranoid or otherwise mentally unsound.
Also MindTech... need I say more.
Also "Spoilers" from here on out:
Also nobody seems to care talking about the biggest non-spoiler in the room: The Game literally tells you at the end, that you're in some harebrained inception-style three layers of Kevin Bacon dream and how the threat is fucking with You while your acshul, real, trve body is 'tearing at the shackles [of their control] in reality A'. Which is a reprisal of the first game's tape "Reality B".

You have to repeatedly smash W to run not because devs want you to suffer (not totally sure about that tho), but to take away your control of anything else while doing so. Same with gun operating - having to manually do everything makes you really focused on how you handle a weapon - not just press R and forget about it.

BTW, yesterday, the devs released a patch that changed the Ranking system (you're not longer "degraded" if you die/quit the game), and other changes:
"The 2.0.1 update for Receiver 2 is OUT NOW, featuring many of your most-requested changes and tweaks.
Save progress on quit instead of losing rank, updated exit message to specify that progress will be saved.
Progress is autosaved after every rank up or death.
Sprint key acts as “walk” key when “hold to sprint” mode is disabled.
Disabled “tap to sprint” when "hold to sprint" mode is enabled.
In “hold to sprint” mode, sprint key acts as a modifier for forward key.
Desert Eagle negligent discharge now kills the player in one hit instead of two.
Enemy spotlights now get blocked by walls even on "fastest" and "fast" quality levels.
Made sure all tapes are the latest revisions, this should fix tape/transcript discrepancies.
    Can customize "jump" key binding.
Can customize "kill player" key binding.
Added dialog when setting a conflicting keybind.
Fixed crash bug (the one that made the memory usage appear to grow forever).
    Fixed massive log file size.
    Fixes to stats system.
Fixed some occasional reflection problems (bright flash on AMD, black on nVidia).
Fixed "reset defaults" command in keybinding menu.
    Fixed problems when customizing keybinds.
    Fixed "swing out cylinder" keybind.
Fixed several asset placement and rendering issues in various tiles.
Fixed graphics glitches when breaking glass on Linux.
Fixed clicking sound when pulling back Colt Detective hammer.
Fixed error message when shooting Newton's Cradle.
Fixed problems with gun operation/guns getting stuck during and after threat echo event.
    Fixed problem with ending.
    Fixed various minor bugs.

For what it's worth, I didn't get an error message when I beat the game. I think that was a glitch. Mine played the last tape and then closed Receiver 2 entirely. The punishing level progression (which was thankfully tweaked to at least remove derank on quit) can certainly be described as padding, but if you want to be generous, you could say it does raise the stakes by introducing a legitimate dread of dying. As for me I never once engaged the safety on any of the firearms, I just got really intentional about using the "careful holstering" mechanic.

Regarding the "hit registration", in the first clip you missed, you hit the building behind, that's what it deflected off of. The next clip, you hit the shroud, which isn't a weak point, but can kill if you force it to fly into a wall after. Also it seems you're only ever firing with the hammer uncocked. With double actions you can manually cock the hammer to get a more accurate shot since the hammer isn't pulling back and tilting your aim while you pull the trigger. It also makes it more 'hair trigger' and goes off immediately on shooting. The rest of the shots were just over the camera. For those drones, they nearly always are either dead or capable of dying in a single shot the center. Either you break the motor and they're dead, or you break the rotor guards and they die if they hit a wall enough. The camera is an instant kill but much harder to hit. Just aim for the central pillar of the body. Or, if you're as close as in the clip, the battery.

"The animations of pulling back the slide"
All of the animations of the guns in this game aren't really animations, they're physics simulations down to every spring and pin in the gun. Pressing F doesn't animate the hammer back, it applies a force to it (this is why the gun kind of gets yanked back when you cock or rack it.)
How to enjoy this game better (specifically directed at the video creator but if you wanna pick this up do this too)
    1. Lock weapon to centre of screen in settings
Can't stress this one enough, nobody likes that shitty box aim garbage like you're playing time crisis
    2. Bind shift to sprint
Duh how is this not standard
    3. Bind holster to alt
Or any button easier than tilde and tab, you'll need to use it slot.
    4. Cock the double actions.
Giggity. Seriously though, the early double action revolves cant hit shit past 10m without being cocked before each shot. Accuracy is really important so this is a must.
    5. Drill.
Giggity. Ok I'll stop but seriously. New gun? Look in help and read about it. Drill loading a few times all the way up to a full mag and one in the chamber or however much it can carry. Drill reloading mags and swapping mags. Drill unloading incase you find kurt Cobain's suicide tape. Drill the safety, d̶r̶i̶l̶l̶ ̶y̶o̶u̶r̶ ̶m̶u̶m̶
And now you fumble way less and the gameplay is smoother. You also feel like an absolute God when you execute that perfect reload or clear that jam you *drilled* for.
Main take away? Drill every o̶n̶e̶ gun
And that's how you enjoy receiver 2
