What’s up brother Any suggestions on how to clean walk in freezer coils in large warehouse boxes. Obviously the water is going to freeze in a minus 10 freezer Thanks
Start from one end of the coil and work backwards so ya don’t get soaked....what about removing the fans or covering with a garbage bag ... I assumed it’s bad practice to get them wet or is it ok.....good work and thank you sir
If worried about mess could always roll in a brute trash can since you have drain union just turn drain fitting and let it fill up while spraying down the coil and fronts then drop pan after to clean that. Works for me if you ever want to try. Saves an hour or so of clean up time. I've even run clear hose to guide it to can better. Use those cans with the dolly on bottom.
God damn that was funky. I would have gone right for special HD calclean to clean up something that funky. I use powr-c on stinky mini splits to try and freshen them up a bit and clean off some of the crap but never have used it on a walk in cooler coil.
Matthew Poole ya it was a bad one hahah. I don’t like using condenser cleaner inside because I don’t want that crap dripping on me. Also this coil has a special coating and wouldn’t want the calclean to damage it. Haha
@@Cscrefandhvac honestly man how hard would it be for someone to learn the HVAC trade/craft that is totally new to it?. I know it takes time but I know here in Florida the ceiling is limitless
Matt Stephens it like anything man it takes practice and trial and error. It’s hard work but if you have mechanical skill and willing to work you should do ok. But it can take years to learn , and you are always learning because things in this trade change all the time
@@Cscrefandhvac I appreciate you replying man, thank you. Honestly I've haven't had much experience with tools, but some. Warehouse and a little masonry work. Did you start with any kind of experience? And do you think anyone can learn to be somewhat mechanically inclined? My bad for the scripture here lol
Matt Stephens yes people should be able to learn if they are mechanically inclined. It’s all depends how much you want to do it. Yes I always used tools as a kid and stuff and I did auto mechanics for a couple years before I got into this trade
Chris, I work with air handler units, before any coil we have a filter. They are changed on a scheduled/as needed basis. Why cant this evaporator have a filter? Seems like it would save money on labor?
Hubert these commercial refr Evans never have filters on them. No where to really put them , and if the evaps had heaters in them they’d also could catch the filters on fire hahah.
I have to throw plastic over their shelves and just try my best to get the drain pans down solo while the store constantly tries to rush me, and my boss wonders why i hate doing his PM's, last one i did the breaker brought both walk ins down so i had to really double time it
i am an old school.guy like you but the last 2 years i started wearing disposable gloves when i do pm's using those chemicals...i buy a box of 100 gloves at home depot for $10...grease monkey brand...also good for those greasy & dirty jobs...for 18 years i never wore gloves but now i do
At least your customer is intelligent enough to clear out the room and get you in to thoroughly clean the evaporators. Good video Chris, thanks!
you guys get room i have to work in a full cooler lol
@@novelcrownzero2341 suck it up buttercup. I’ve worked in walk-ins where I had to crawl over top of boxes on my stomach to get to the evaporator.
And wash them or de ice them like that . Or fix a leak or fix an electrical issue etc hahaha. Usually in a freezer as well
Also usually up 30 ft also after climbing out the scissor lift to get in top of the boxes hahaha
Do it right the first time, love your work ethic man. Love your videos, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
eddie alvarado hey thanks buddy I appreciate that 👍
Nice job. The customer was right to invest in copper fins even though more expensive "Buy once cry once"
NIce vid! very helpful so a noob can try. would like to know about disconnecting the tubing and bottom tray
Great video, what is the yellowed-handled brush you use...thanks
Joe Jach just a brush from Home Depot
The yellow handled ones is just a wire brush
Ok, thankyou!
Your power drill and a car detailing brush kit, or kit on a sander make this super easy!!

Learned about food acids and coils with special coatings. Already thinking about supermarkets open air coils I've seen totaled and a solution. Thanks!
Ricardo MAGARico it does seem the walk in could get a lot more corroded than the refrigerated cases , at from what I’ve worked on and seen
Can you spray the dust before brushing it off in step 1? To minimize particles being disbursed everywhere?
yes absolutely
Doing it right. Good one Chris. 👍
Juan Todolí thanks man 👍

randy handle oh yes I’ve done that many times as well. Hahaha. It works very well especially when you can’t make a mess
Exactly
Out of curiosity, how much does a service like this usually cost?
I’m a dairy manager at a grocery store and the store manager is telling me to clean the fans so I’m here lol
Got an empty box to work in? Nice!
\m/
OpThomasPrime ya it doesn’t happen much but they cleared this one out for me Hahahah

@@Cscrefandhvac Special HD calclean is basically dawn dish soap on steroids. Detergent based and absolutely amazing.
Matthew Poole yes I’m sorry I was thinking of the blue nu Calvin that eats everything. Hahahha
What kind of coil clean do you use?
Nu-Calgon evap clean. The green colored one from United refrigeration
Good vid good job keep posting enjoyed ✊
GeneK Hvacr thanks man
Truck driver or HVAC-R field bro? I'm stuck.
Matt Stephens not sure man that is up to you haha
