I saw a HUGE bismuth crystal at the shop where I buy for my crystal collection, it was like the size of a volleyball. I've never seen anything so magical in my entire life.
I have melted 65kg and more at one time before. What is your method to keep the top edges from cooling before the center? I have used insulators like ceramic wool and heating rope, but the edges cool far before my seeded crystal can form properly. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Great work!!
SurferBoy690 I use 99.99% purity bismuth. I bought from 佐々木半田工業in Japan. Unfortunately no shipping abroad. how about you? your bismuth purity and do you have any problem?
I was trying to determine if it was necessary to buy the more-expensive 99.999% purity. Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get started. Roughly how many pounds/kilo do you melt at time?
Hi there.. I have about 30lbs of 99.99 pure bismuth that I have been playing with over the stove. I have gotten some decent crystals but I feel I can get bigger ones, do you have any advice or tips or anything?
So if you melt 65kg at a time, will you continue remelting the unused bismuth until it is all gone? How much bismuth is wasted each melt? and how many kg total would you actually get as a result of the 65kg? in the form of crystals etc
I don't know about him , but can give you a few tips how to cut losses ,from slag formed .Tho it will take longer to make a melt ,use a lower temperature. I set my burner setting on 6 instead of high.
Another point , I've used an 8 inch frying pan , and made thousands of the "christmas tree " variety . My largest so far was 7 inches long , and weighed a bit over 4 oz
I think the biggest barrier would be the weight of the bismuth pressing down on the bottom of the container. Might want to do that one on the moon or Mars.
what happens if you shock bismuth while in the cooling process?

This is crazy I’ve been watching videos to try to help me make bigger ones could you make a tutorial to make huge ones like that
Sam Leonard do u have 200$? Lol
Vinny Iacovino Yes?
It costs a lot more than $200 for 65 kg of bismuth, I'm guessing between $1000-$1500.
@@Justin34585 would be about 900-1100
@@Justin34585 30$ times 65
There’s people on the internet saying their 700g is the “world’s biggest”! Do you have a gallery of your crystals online somewhere?
amazing jazz and science !!!!!
btw. this scale is played on the hey arnold cartoon its one os my favorites
I'm wondering if you are able to achieve larger features as well. I wonder if lifting one out while under vacuum would result in a larger crystal!
man that mustve been heavy and exciting

65kg? That must have cost you about $1000!
Can you pass an electice current while cooling to see what happends
Amazing! Did you use the 99.99% pure or the more-expensive 99.999% pure bismuth?
And where did you buy the material?

SurferBoy690 i use 65kg. it's dangerous because of high temperature.
2018 anyone
XD
Now THATS ALOT OF BISMUTH

I heard that you have to let it cool down as slowly as possible so that they can grow properly.

Buy a nitrogen cilinder and put a glass cover on top and it won't oxidize nearly as much
You should give tutorial thanks
Whoa that's huge
would it also be possible to make a 1 meter long crystal?
Probably... if you have a pot that is over one meter deep and alot of money to buy at least 100kg of Bismuth
I think the biggest barrier would be the weight of the bismuth pressing down on the bottom of the container. Might want to do that one on the moon or Mars.
sub 2 pewds
how big is the pot?
looks like a atleast 3 gallons
I am turner on
