SuperM was created by SM Entertainment in collaboration with Capitol Records in the U.S. This group features 7 of the best of the best when it comes to dance, vocals, rap and performance in Kpop. The members of SuperM are some of the top artist from SM Entertainment's most popular groups.
Using the still image at the end of the "Tiger Inside" MV, as you may know, from left:
> Lucas is a rapper and visual of WayV/NCT-U, he is Chinese-Thai from Hong Kong;
> Ten is the main dancer and a lead vocalist from WayV/NCT-U, he is Thai;
> Baekhyun is a main vocalist of EXO and the leader of SuperM, he is Korean;
> Taemin is the main dancer and a lead/main vocalist from the legendary group SHINee, as well as one of the most popular solo artists, he is Korean and he has been in the industry for more than 14 years (Taemin and Kai are considered the top two BEST dancers in the entire industry);
> Taeyong is a main rapper, main/lead dancer and the leader of NCT (he is part of NCT-127/NCT-U), he is Korean;
> Kai is the main dancer, a lead vocalist, sub-rapper and center of EXO, he is Korean;
> Mark is a main rapper of NCT (NCT-127, NCT-U and NCT-Dream), he is Korean-Canadian.
SuperM are considered the Avengers of Kpop because the group is so multi-talented, with some of the most influential idols in the industry, representing multiple nationalities and Kpop generations, who are poised to take over the world.The group debuted in the U.S. in October 2019 so that is why their title track "One (Monster and Infinity)," their previous release "100" and their debut song "Jopping" are mostly in English because "Jopping" was meant to be their foyer into the U.S. music market, and "100" and "One (Monster & Infinity)" continues that plan. "Tiger Inside" was a pre-release track from SuperM's first full length album Super One.
Mark is the fluent English speaker of the group. And WayV is the Chinese sub-unit of NCT, so not only does Ten and Lucas speak Korean and English, but they also speak Mandarin. Ten also speaks Thai because he is from Thailand and Lucas speaks Cantonese because he is from Hong Kong and a little Thai because his mom is Thai. And although, Baekhyun, Kai, Taemin and Taeyong are all native Korean, they also speak many other languages. For example, Taemin, and SHINee, are very popular in Japan, so he is fluent in Japanese as well.
Although Baekhyun is the oldest member at 30 and Mark is the youngest at 23, Taemin, who is only 29, is the one with the most seniority in the group. Taemin debuted 4-10 years before any of the other members of SuperM. Taemin debuted as a member of SHINee in 2008 when he was 14 years old, so he is a super senior of the group. (Fun fact: Lucas is only 3 years younger than Taemin, but he debuted 10 years after Taemin.) So, Taemin is the one everyone looks up to.
It is said that the concept for SuperM is supposed to be like the Avengers, so, I see it as each of the members are a different kind of superhero that make up the larger "Avengers" group, just like how the Marvel Avenger members come together from all walks of life with all different abilities and powers, etc. to make up one big super group.
As with everything that SM does, it's been designed to all connect. All of SM's groups' concepts and MV storylines connect together and it's all part of one giant Universe and story that started in 2012 with EXO's debut.
To understand how all of SM's groups are connected, you first need to keep in mind that it all began with EXO's origin story. From day one, EXO's concept has been that they are aliens from Planet Exo who have been sent to Earth on a mission to find and protect the Tree of Life from the Red Force, while also trying to fix all the things that are going wrong in the world, which are believed to be caused by the Red Force. The Red Force is thought to be here on Earth inflicting their evil agenda -- corrupting humanity and causing all the bad things that are happening in the world, such as war, hate and destruction of the environment, etc. And because EXO is trying to undo and prevent the Red Force from accomplishing their goals, the Red Force is also trying to take down EXO by capturing them, corrupting them and standing in their way, etc.
So, as part of EXO's story, Baekhyun and Kai -- who are members of EXO -- have recruited members from SM Entertainment's other male Kpop groups and formed SuperM, to help them battle the Red Force.
And just like the Marvel Avengers members each have their own Superhero story, when they come together to form The Avengers they combine their story and concept and weave elements of each of the member's backstories into The Avengers storyline. I see SM Entertainment doing the same thing with SuperM.
Also, just like how the Marvel Avengers come together to combine their strengths and powers to help fight Thanos, I see parallels with what SM is doing with SuperM's storyline. SuperM is taking the "best" members from each group and joining forces to take down the Red Force. And just like how the movies "Avengers Identity War" and "Avengers Endgame" eventually had each of the Marvel Avengers members recruiting their whole crew to help in the fight, I think SM is setting it up so that all of its groups' members will eventually be brought into the fight.
I also think that the "Tiger Inside" MV may be connected to EXO's "Wolf" MV. In "Wolf" we see that EXO are a wolf pack that is dressed in all white and they are inside an all white den or cave, just like the SuperM members who are dressed in all white and are in a white cave in "Tiger Inside." And in "Wolf" the choreography was designed to make the EXO members look like they are wolves or beasts, where in "Tiger Inside" the choreography was also designed to make them look like beasts or tigers.
So, because of this, I think people need to pay attention to all of the storylines with all of SM's groups, because I think at least all of SM's third generation groups' MVs and storylines -- and probably even now their 4th gen groups with the introduction of aespa -- are being designed to connect stories and plots.
Each group has their own individual storyline and concept, but when you put them all together, there are threads of connections between the groups. And that includes SuperM, EXO, Red Velvet, NCT/WayV, aespa, and maybe even Taemin's solo work, and possibly even SHINee. Even though SHINee are second gen, they actually the members are the same age as most of the members of third generation groups, so they sort of bridge that gap between 2nd and 3rd gen.
And although most of SM's older groups' concepts and MVs may have never been originally designed to have any type of connection to anything to do with anything, that doesn't necessarily mean that over the years, as EXO's story has evolved or SM's Universe concept was being created, that SM didn't find "happy coincidences" within those MVs that allowed them to use them as a way to connect things together. For example, some have pointed to the fact that Ningning's butterfly in aespa's concept from 2020 could be connected to the butterfly in EXO's debut "Mama" MV from 2012, as well as the butterfly in NCT-127's recent "Favorite (Vampire)" MV from 2021, and some have made compelling arguments that it could even be connected to SHINee's butterfly in their "Ring Ding Dong" MV from 2009. Which all now could be connected to the white butterfly we see in aespa's "aespa ep. 2 'Next Level' -- SM Culture Universe" video, that helps aespa and everyone navigate through the world of Kwangya. Or the blue roses we see in Taemin's "Press Your Number" MV from 2016 may be connected to EXO's flower/blue rose concept, etc. I mean we see what looks like the pink planet from Super Junior's "House Party" MV from 2021 and a scene from Super Junior-K.R.Y.'s "When We Were Us" MV from 2020 in "aespa's ep.1 'Black Mamba' - SM Culture Universe" video. And SM has even brought Kangta, who is a member of the very first Kpop boy group H.O.T., which debuted in 1996, into the storyline with his solo MV remake of H.O.T's song "Free to Fly." The MV for "Free to Fly" features aespa's Winter and NCT's Sungchan as characters in the MV, and the story is set in what looks like could be Kwangya. And Max Changmin from TVXQ joins the world of Kwangya in his solo "Devil" MV when we see him on the pink planet, etc. So it's starting to look like SM may be hinting at bringing everyone into the storyline, including their older groups and artists.
However, you should also know that no one really knows what is happening for sure in SM's Universe storyline. It's all fan theories and educated guesses. SM has never confirmed nor denied any of our theories and they have never explained anything. They have left it up to the fans to interpret the story and connect the pieces. And what makes this even more difficult is the story isn't being told in chronological order, so as fans you have to pay attention to everything and remember what you have seen and heard in previous content in order to decide where each piece fits within the larger storyline. And it's not just MVs, but it's with everything they do including teaser videos, concert VCRs (short videos played at concerts in between sets), live performances, song lyrics, online content released by SM, special extras included when you purchase an album, etc. It's super complex and all encompassing.
If you like their dancing, you really need to see the dance practice for "Tiger Inside."

I do agree with you. Having all these powerhouses together does make expectations extremely high. This is actually my favorite song of all theirs and Wish you Here which is more of a ballad song. This choreo is crazy good though. I really love their variety shows and content together because they are super funny. Baekhyun is probably the most chaotic leader ever.
Love the reaction as always! Taemin is definitely my fav soloist check out: Danger, criminal, Want, Move, Taemin and Kai also have a song together called Pretty Boy, there isn't an official MV but there are live performances.
Kai's discography is kpop royalty for me and Baekhyun is solid, too.
But I wouldn't expect SuperM's music to hit in the same way, because there is a combination of different artists involved, so it's company driven concept and music wise. Still, their music, especially the bsides, is really of high quality and quite different from what one would expect by hearing their title tracks.

Glad you liked it! Their B-sides are really good tho… I completely understand why you might have high expectations though. You just gotta remember that TM, Baek & Kai(any artist) solo work will always hit differently vs when in a group. Their discography is a representation of their style/artistry as individuals. It’s hard, but sometimes you have to remember that they’re not just showcasing one or two artists’ talents and abilities, but seven. Plus SuperM wasn’t around that long, due to members leaving for the military and other issues(Lucas😭), so they were honestly just getting started. I can’t wait to see them all together again🤗

Superm has some more r&b sounding bsides on their album so you'd probably like So Long and Dangerous Woman the most. I think you'd like the production on I Can't Stand The Rain and No Manners and the flow on Super Car and most of the raps on the album. The title track for their album One (Monster + Infinity) is also really cool bc it's a mashup of two other songs (Monster and Infinity) so you'd probably find that interesting too
I appreciate you guys actually being diverse and not only listening to BTS and Black pink only, there is so many TH-camrs just milking the views for BTS/Black pink and I think it's ok to like them but it's pretty generic dancing, music and vocals, there's so many other better kpop groups ofc IMO but I think ppl just simp just cause they don't wanna bother looking in other directions.

I think you make a fair assessment of SuperM. I love their stuff and the "larger than life"-movie-esque thing they've got going on, but I suspect their producers struggled to figure out what their sound would be and kind of sleep on their individual strengths a bit. Mix lots of tasty stuff together too much and it all comes out tasting the same. One (Monster & Infinity) is their best title track so far imo, but once the group makes their comeback this year I hope their company has figured out how to utilise their skills better.

i’m really hoping y’all react to Ten’s Birthday MV and dance practice. He’s a member of SuperM. Y’all would not regret it I swear. The song is such a banger. It has the rnb vibes that y’all love and the dance goes soooo crazy that’s why I suggested the dance practice as well. The MV doesn’t give the dance enough justice imo. You get just a taste. I would pay y’all to react to it if I could. That’s how bad I want y’all to check it out 😭😭
For background info….Ten is a member of SuperM and NCT (y’all checked out 90s Love and he was apart of that lineup too). His main subunit is WayV. He’s the main dancer of NCT (all 23 members) and an amazing singer. He’s recognized as one of the best dancers in kpop along side Taemin and Kai so that should give y’all an idea how crazy he is seeing that y’all have checked out Kai and Taemin before. Ten also has that androgynous vibe. He’s very artistic and a standout idol in SM for sure. Man just need a solo album to show his full potential. He has other solo songs, no album as yet, (Paint Me Naked, Dream In a Dream, New Heroes) but based on what I’ve seen on your channel, Birthday is right up your alley since it’s the most rnb one. If you do plan to check out the others I suggest watching the dance practices as well. That man is too sick of a dancer to not check it out. His dancing is so fluid you would think he did ballet but he’s such a hard hitter at the same time and he can do break dancing and those type of shit. INSANE BODY CONTROL. He’s the type of idol that fangirls want and fanboys want to be like (some even want 🤣)
