I would love to hear her address ADHD and neurodiversity in relation to "Grit". Everything I've read of this philosophy so far seems to completely exclude neurodiverse people and the struggles we face in school and work environments.
Thank you Dr Duckworth, for your work that exposes how we can control our own direction through self-motivation. Discovering your work has been seriously confirming of many experiences that I've had along my journey as an advocate and mentor to many.
That’s right in the background you’ve had the government national state, federal county cities all working together to fix the chaos and then inheriting a wealth transfer. It is now fixed. Is anyone familiar with the recently released book Everyone is an Einstein; and There is an Einstein in Everyone: The Constitution of Genius by author Benjamin Michael? It's a very compelling read!
I think she is misrepresenting the point of view that says character can't be taught. Nobody is claiming it's some magic thing that just happens, it's that the circumstances that produce good character (for example a father in the household, that interacts positively with his kids) help a child develop psychologically in a way that can't be taught in a book. In this sense, character absolutely cannot be taught, although you can teach people how to interact in a way with their kids that produces character in them. Character has many biological factors from one's home life that can't be overlooked.
I find it appalling that life events that occur in all economic statuses are associated with poverty, always. I'm very disgusted and tired of our culture attacking and labeling lower economical classes. It does not matter what class a child is brought up in, there will be struggles, loss of family to death, etc. The only difference is the amount of income a family has. You preach based on pure bias. There is GRIT in all people. When we as a society stop trying to compare based on external factors of individuals and start focusing on people as people, that is the only time that growth will be achieved.
The only difference? That extra income can be completely life changing! Of course all people will have struggles and all people will face hardships, but poverty has the ability to amplify those hardships exponentially. Some kids from a lower socioeconomic status will have amazing care-free lives while some kids from the other side of the pond will live extremely tough lives, but the exceptions do not change the facts, social class & poverty are HUGE factors in people’s lives. Also, Duckworth believes that grit is more important in future successes then socioeconomic status and talks about kids from lower social classes being extremely gritty individuals, so, I’m not sure who ur comment was even aimed at anyway?
It sounds like you don't have a lot of grit. Or at the very least, you can't handle the truth about how or why some people become successful, and why some people simply don't. My suggestion is to look in the mirror.
Dr. Duckworth is a phenomenal woman. Her articulation skills is beyond measure. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and ideas with us.

I believe the feminine of the word guru is gurini.

Also, why did she bring that dude on stage and just keep talking? lol
But, she is still talking about working for someone else. Hmmm

This woman sounds so pompous and narcissistic but I have to listen to this for work
In what way do you feel she's doing that?
