I ended a relationship with a woman that was on again off again etc. for 25+ years. I realized I was hoping that she really was changed. Of course I shouldn’t have needed her to change. I was thinking she was someone that she wasn’t and she wanted to be what I wanted her to be and that is never a relationship that was going to work. I thought I loved her for her but I only really loved who she was when we were together. She was someone completely different when we weren’t together. I think she truly wanted to change for me because of how I loved her. But her feeling that she needed to be what I wanted her to be was not really who she is. I know that explanation of our relationship is super confusing but some people out there will understand what I mean, hopefully lol. I just had to let her go so she could be herself and not who she thought I wanted her to be . It breaks my heart but it freed her and me from something that could never realistically make either of us happy. Goodbye my best friend and my love. I’m sure we’ll see each other again in the next life

I understand this completely. Seeing someone change themself for you is not easy, especially when you truly love them.
