    Hey there Howard. Just wanted to say thanks for the update that you gave us on how you are getting on. Hard to believe that that month has flown by so fast. I am really pleased to hear that you are still talking with your Dad and that you sense his answers and presence. Refreshing to see someone being so frank with us all. Good on you. 🙏🏻

    I learned a lot about automotive clocks. Glad I watched. I've always avoided looking at them before, now I'll check them out when I get one not working.

      Glad it helped. My attitude is, if it docent work, I have zero to loose by trying to fix it. Thats how I learned to fix odd things like clocks. Now I enjoy tearing into one. Like I say, 90% of the time a good cleaning does the job.

      Hi Howard, the original clock in my ‘66 Galaxie does not work. I bought the car 2 years ago. There is a used clock I can purchase via the internet. I’ve seen burnt electromagnets but on this one the electromagnets shown in the pictures look clean and shiny. Are clocks from the ‘60 worth buying or do they run a couple years then quit. The one on the internet I can get for $40 plus shipping. Do you want to sell the extra one you have?

    Very interesting Howard! I converted my clock to LED about 18 years ago, now that the LEDs have grown dim I'm inspired to find a NOS clock and go back to analog.
    Should be a pretty easy fix (a pain to install) but worth it!

    Howard, being an electronic technician in the past, I would say that the clock with the spark and smoke has a shorted coil winding. I've used Meguiars plastic polish myself in the past. It's amazing how much a person can make something old look much nicer with some careful attention. Good job.

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea, with a magnifying glass I can see the bad part of the winding. I'm wondering if it was trying to wind, with a low car battery and just got hot and melted the varnish off in spots..... back in it's day.

    Good evening Howard !! I'm waiting on several items at this time. I did a lot of Christmas shopping on line this year. I'm happy to see daily videos from you. Keep up the good work my friend. I can't wait to see that dashboard looking new again.

      Yes I think everyone is buying online for Christmas because of the pandemic. Still though UPS and FedEx are somewhat on time. I'v been waiting over three weeks for several items, that I need to keep moving on the Galaxie. Our wonderful federal government won't fund USPS.....

    i guess its time to fix the clocks..pun intended ,,,,it will be nice to have a working clock ...so many older cars have non working clocks.

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know.... it drives me nuts. They worked good often for the first ten years or so, when the cars were new. The dirt collects in them, stopping them. There well built good, so often a good cleaning them gets them going again.

  • @nefaurora
    @nefaurora 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yep, I just waited 2 weeks and 2 days for something that was sent 2-day Priority Mail. The USPS is so bad right now that its been in the news... Your experience with the US Postal service is being felt by just about everyone Howard... You are in no way alone! :o) Tony K.

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'v been waiting 18 days for one item, 15 days for another, and two weeks for three other items being shipped USPS. I have stopped buying things that they will only ship USPS. Waiting on things is going to put a stop on the Galaxie soon. I need what I ordered now, not a month from now. All total I'm waiting on seven items threw USPS. Why won't our useless government fund USPS? It's very aggravating!

    Howard, For cleaning Plastic, Personally, I've found that No.7 brand White Compound or Novus Plastic Polish works wonders. That's usually what I use for polishing plastic to look brand new. I've also heard that Mother's Plastic Polish works well too, but have not tried it myself.. Tony K. :o)

    Hi Howard, I’m in the UK and imported my 66 Galaxie from the US about 10 years ago. I have a question that I hope I haven’t missed the answer to in your videos!
    Below the the lower dashboard and each side of the steering column seems open and unfinished - it looks to me that there should be panels each side but as Galaxies are rare here I have no ‘bench mark’ for reference. Can you advise/provide a photo of this area please? P.S I’m using my wife’s account!

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I show the whole under dash area after installing the dash. The part under the plastic bezel where the ignition, heat and wiper controls are is open. Laying on the floor pan, looking up, you can see all the controls.

    Got a small piece of motorcycle luggage from India via FedEx seven days after I ordered it! Canada Post, however, is just as bad as USPS.

      I'v been waiting 18 days..... I need stuff to keep the Galaxie project moving..... Unless USPS gets on the ball, the Galaxie project will come to a stand still.

    Was wondering if those knobs on the clocks were reverse threaded , recall twisting the knob off my parents Fairlane by accident whilst cleaning one Saturday 30 years ago .

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The NOS one there right hand threads, so I assume the others are the same.... I did try turning them both ways though.

    So is the clock wind up?
    I would assume so since I see that we'll going back-and-forth.
    But why does he need to hook power to it?
    I wanna take my note of my sixty four I've been getting interested in clocks. Wind up one's And I was going through the Facebook market page and I seen that the 64.might be wind up and then that how I got here to your video

    • @OldCarAlley
      @OldCarAlley  ปีที่แล้ว

      The power is to wind the clock. There is an electro magnet that winds the clock every few minutes. When the spring winds down, contacts make a connection to energize the electro magnet to wind the clock spring.
