Nosferatu (1922) is my favorite movie of all time, it's the film that made me fall in love with cinema and the genre. The fact that a director of the caliber of Robert Eggers is remaking it (probably the best new voice in the genre), for me is incredible, I couldn't ask for a better auteur. This is my cinematic event of the year, can't wait. Thanks for the review.
I love you guys but I’m gonna hold off on watching this until after I’ve seen it. This is my most anticipated movie of the year, in fact the *only* movie I’ve looked forward to and I don’t want anything to dampen my excitement. “Dripping with atmosphere” from your out of theatre review was all that I needed!
Interesting comments from you two on this, afa Eggers goes I thought The Lighthouse was by far his best and it set his bar high. The cast worries me, except for Dafoe they all seem to be second or even third choices. Looking forward to seeing this though.
The review from Matt Zoller Seitz over at Christy’s old haunt is one of the best movie reviews I’ve read in years. For those of you here in the comments who’ve yet to read it, seek it out.
I can't wait. The first time I saw Murnau's Nosferatu, I didn't get it. I was 13, and I had seen Dracula, and i thought Murnau's version was just weird and off-putting. The second time, about a year later, I loved it, recognized it for the masterpiece it is. And I was much better able to see Orlok in a sympathetic light. I wonder what a repeat viewing of this version will do to your opinions.
This is the kind of review I dreaded most because all the criticisms that Christy and Alonso have are what I was afraid of, in anticipation of this film. I was hoping Eggers WOULDN'T be to reverential, and as Alonso put it, "under glass". But you can be damn sure I've got my ticket reservation for opening (Christmas) day!! lol I'm hoping for the best anyway!
So note to producers and directors, be wary of IPs and overly familiar mythologies. There's only so much juice you could squeeze out of it, in spite of newer technology, great design and acting, bigger budget etc. The same fate happened to Alien Romulus. You get more mileage, and respect, by telling new stories, not rehashing old ones.
The funny thing is, I haven't heard anybody else say this, but you guys. So I am not concerned at all. Everything I have heard is that is a masterpiece

The reactions and reviews seem pretty consistent, sadly. Technically good, but the main story fails. I’ll go back to The Last Voyage Of The Demeter, which was an underrated movie.
i agree with Alonzo in that sometimes a pairing of story and director can be very obvious - in ways that are postive and negative. i have had reservations because of that, but planning to check this out myself regardless.
Ok, I am pretty sure that if Bill Skarsgård is in a movie, there is a good chance it is not going to be all that great. Now saying he is a bad actor or anything but you have to admit that a lot of the movies he is in only excels at around 79 percent but that is it.
@@LoyaltotheNightsky - it is weird to suggest that despite being a good actor everything he will be in in the future will be bad. It really doesn't make sense. Especially in this case, considering pedigree.
When you use Dafoe for playing the umpteenth time a Dafoe part your casting is poor. Never before has a 7 out of 10 felt so much like a 4,5 carried away by sympathy and goodwill. As the praise goes in the direction of skillful film-making (but only on technical level if I got that right), we know what we fear. But we won't see it. We extrapolated on the basis of especially films two and three, and can't see what should bring us to this sitting.
@@NoSweat69 You cannot bring yourselves to think this through? A hint: The Witch (great). The Lighthouse (outlandish and eventually numbing), The Northman (excruciating), Nosferatu is the fourth.
Never clicked on anything so fast in my life. I’ve been looking forward to this for over five years 😭🖤
Hope you love it!
Lily Rose Depp saves her career after Idol. This is stunning work from her.
Right? It's so challenging physically and emotionally.
Soooo yesferatu or nosferatu? Lol
Haha this is so bad 😂
Me nosferatoo!

Streamferatu
The reviews I’ve watched for Egger’s Nosferatu seems to be all over the place. Some are calling it a masterpiece, others are calling it boring. 😆
@@RichardHannay but nobody’s saying it’s bad and unwatchable, which gives me hope, Eggers hasn’t missed yet
Like, 95 percent of the reviews I’ve seen are calling it a masterpiece.
That means it's personal and unusual.. probably great!
No one has called it a masterpiece but people ARE saying it has good elements
@@BluePrada The word masterpiece has been mentioned several times.

Eggers' films are so immersive! He's 3 for 3 and hasn't missed yet
I'll be sure to watch this twice‼
You haven’t even watched it 😭 d rider just like Nolan fans
great review can’t wait to see it
Shadow of a Vampire is not talked about enough, its so great.
It's a slowburn, but still quite dazzling and visually stunning.
The re-make is one of my favs. So im so excited to see this one

Eggers has amazing style. But he almost always have script and pacing issues, so 'm not holding my breath.

It's going to be awfully difficult to improve upon Herzog-Kinski, let alone Murnau, and so far Eggers is overrated in my opinion.
It's a lower tier Herzog/Kinski film.

It does look from the Trailers Visually Striking
🎉🎉
I'll probably still catch it, but now I'm skeptical after your 7.05 collective score and, "Blah ba blah." 🤣
Never saw the original, but I've heard of it.
It's for free on TH-cam and so is the 1979 German remake.
im sorry. im too biased with this director. i would believe only when my eyes see it.
No love for Shadow of the Vampire? Willem Dafoe and John Malkovich?
One of the top 5 vampire films of all time?
We literally mention that film here.

His films make me so tired Lol. I can appreciate a slow burn as much as most, but I have issues with his pacing. It’s like watching a rough cut.

I'm not a fan of Eggers and after listening to you guys and Fish Jelly I doubt I'll change on that. I'll check it out when it streams.
So it's like a modern Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)? The trailers gave me those kinds of vibes.
the original 1922 movie is an unlicensed Dracula with the names changed

In the next couple of weeks.
