    Clear MTB frame tape works great as a rail protector.

    The addition of rail handles will also help to protect your rails on rollover.

    Looking forward to other riders trying it. Would be cool to have a course of obstacles set up to showcase the new ability of the SuperFlux.

    I think the Thunder Rail Kit comes with rail protector files now among many other goodies. This will be my setup when I go VESC soon. Already have custom color Thunders on the way, so excited! Thanks Surf, you the man!

    My superflux is coming in about 30ish days or so. Can't wait.

    I really want to see how it handle on my 10 miles green mountain bike trail here in Vegas, my GT handles it fine but after the heat buildup above 160F the efficiency really goes down hill and eat the battery much faster.

    So excited to get my white thunder rails. I'll probably create some printed rail guards so I'll post that somewhere when the time comes

    How much weight does the new motor add overall to the board? 2-3kg?

  • @TheFrostyDave
    @TheFrostyDave ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You can only stop particles with that mask, fumes still pass through until you get activated carbon involved.

    • @MrDmadness
      @MrDmadness ปีที่แล้ว +2

      while activated carbon CAN remove voc's ( volatile organic compounds ) you'd need a proper respirator at minimum to do so.. the only way to completely scrub the air involves use of Bioremediation to organically saturate the air and remove pollutants.. the tires gasses also are not going g to effect you in any real way unless you do this all day every day.. respectfully intended from a guy who works with gasses and air systems :)

    Good stuff glad I stumbled on the video. Thank you. I have an XR I'm beginning out grow. Eventually want to go vesc for hopefully more torque and range. I'm hesitant at this point that you have to know a lot to do it no pay plug and Play. Those rails seem really nice will they work with stock configuration pads controller battery allowing room to upgrade? The fact that a fender the higher settings especially magnetic one doesn't work with them major possible deal breaker for me with the amount of stuff I float through. Can spacers be put between the fender and the rails to accommodate a fender?

    • @surfdado
      @surfdado  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the rails are fully XR compatible, some people use them with stock FM boards

  • @shariefc
    @shariefc ปีที่แล้ว

    What is the ideal setup now in your opinion?
    Hub - ??? (SuperFlux)
    Rails - ??? ( thunder rails)
    Vesc - ???
    Battery type - ???

    • @surfdado
      @surfdado  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      SuperFlux + whatever rails you like + LittleFOCer + a custom made 18s2p 18650 battery gives you more range than an XR and more performance than a GT. 20s2p is even better if you can get it to fit

    How is the range with the superflux compared to the stock xr hypercore motor? Would think the extra weight and extra power being pulled would reduce range quite a bit..

    @dustinhankins2153 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is so different about the superflux that the experienced riders could not get with the riding style? I love the feel of the stock onewheel XR. I can’t imagine that stoked feeling being much different with the superflux upgrade.

    • @surfdado
      @surfdado  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree with you on the feel of the XR, but do you still love it when the motor stalls out when you slowly go over a bump? Do you love it when you're carrying your board up a hill because it's too weak to make it up? This is where the SuperFlux really shines. For normal riding you can't tell a difference

    I know that it's reached like a 32 mph top speed but I want to know what the comfortable cruising speed is Like for instance on an XR the comfortable cruising speed is around 14 15 on a GT it's around 16 18 with this beefy motor what's the puttering around cruising moving around rocks going up and down driveways speed That's what matters to me Don't care about top speeds I want to know the comfortable speed you can cruise around on hit curbs do a little carves without feeling sketchy

    • @surfdado
      @surfdado  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      comfortable cruising speed depends on so many factors it's pretty much impossible to say, the motor is usually pretty low on the list. The key thing to know though is that this motor can go 18% faster using the same controller/battery

    Awesome video, ive now ordered a little focer, gonna get rails and motor next month.. likely will be waiting a while. You should always run slime on a tubeless setup, especially If you're hitting speeds, a tire can burp air under load.. as a former dh racer ive seen the results if too little stans slime.. it ends badly.

    What mudguard fits these rails? I've got the rails and struggling to find one.

    • @surfdado

      I think any of them will require spacers for extra clearance

    I'm sure FM has been scrambling to patent everything, so they will litigate others out of the market. It would not surprise me if FM tried filing a patent for having the tire made out of rubber. They will soon be even more desperate. FM has already lost me to the EUC world. Their battery policy is the killer. The claim of safety is absurd. After all, I can work on my automobile at will. And with third party parts to boot. How safe is that?

  • @stespin
    @stespin ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd retire my Pint for one of these, but the idea of having to build it scares me quite a bit. Not because I would not be capable of actually assemble it, I'm an architect and i'm pretty good at DIY stuff, but I have 0 knowledge on electronics, let alone VESC.

  • @JackMasterOfNone

    Not GT compatible correct?

    • @surfdado
      @surfdado  ปีที่แล้ว

      Rails are XR only, and motor is just like the hypercore motor, i.e. the motor fits with the GT and the XR, and the Pint, but in all cases you cannot use the stock FM controller

    Would the lid-mounted controller box setup solve (or at least help) the mosfet overheating problem? I just saw VESCmann's video showing the thermal pad sandwiched between the mosfets and lid, and I immediately thought of your comments in this video. Here's his th-cam.com/video/3Olnt5r63JU/w-d-xo.html . Thanks for all you do for DIY Onewheels!

    • @surfdado
      @surfdado  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lid mount ensures optimal heat transfer to the lid, but it's not sufficient in my experience. So what I did is I ordered 200 x 120 x 3mm aluminum plates from SendCutSend to fill the space between lid and footpad - and with that I can now ride serious hills without overheating issues
