      Unfortunately I'm not sure of the cabinet specs :/ it's my father's house and I don't live there anymore. I'd maybe guess it's the US standard countertop height, maybe a standard cabinet height too if that exists.. but the person who built the house before us was kind of an idiot and nothing is level or standard there, so I really couldn't say. HOWEVER, when looking up the PL62X, this generation of the Mara, the specs of the machine are 22cm x 41cm x 35cm (width, depth, height). Please use those specs on your work surface and see if it's a good fit!

    Hey man congrats on 200 subs! The setup and the coffee are looking great. How long do you typically wait to use a batch after roasting at home? • @alexwalshaw
      @alexwalshaw  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much :)
      So I typically wait around 24 hours to start using me beans as that first day is really critical for the degassing process, but I am aware some people won't even go near their roasts until 3 or more days after roasting. I don't find the gas to be all that bad in my cases so far, so I stand by my waiting at least one day!
      I'm glad you are enjoying my videos, I enjoy making them, even if the production quality is rubbish! I plan to get a new phone soon, so hopefully with a newer camera sensor, my videos will be better!

      @erniec604 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike…added to what Alex has said…I roast at home also…I usually wait 3-4 days after roast and leave the beans out to off -gas. The mountain of coffee nerds and experts suggest that beans are best for espresso between 4-21 days post roast….with so many factors at play….I find good results in the front end of that range….

    Hey Alex, do you feel like the original Lelit gasket caused any extraction issues? For example, do you have to lock it in all the way before pulling the lever?

    • @alexwalshaw
      @alexwalshaw  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't experience any gasket related issues prior to replacing it, other than it being quite hard to lock in in the beginning, which is just the nature of a rubber seal vs a polyurethane one.
      I replaced it because I was modifying the group with an IMS shower screen and figured I might as well change it while I was in there.
      I don't expect anyone should have gasket related issues when it's new, or maybe even years into it's life, only when the gasket begins getting flaky, cracked or dry would I expect any sort of issues. Hope this helps 👍

    • @alexwalshaw

    Hi Alex! I recieved it yesterday! I am so happy. Have wasted around 600grams of coffee today haha. Now I have to find a good scale with timer but not too expensive. When I dial in so fine that I have the correct pressure/bar and am around 40-45sec(with pre infusion) for a double shot I find that the eureka is clumping a bit and I don't have a wdt tool yet. Imo it should look a bit courser but I am still a newbie and can be wrong. Hope I can do better soon.

    • @alexwalshaw
      @alexwalshaw  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congrats on your purchase! Yep, I'd suggest any scale accurate to .1g and going a fair bit coarser. The eureka starts clumping and getting static at turkish fine, so backing up so you get your target yield of espresso in 30 seconds is really what you want! But it's all just practice, you will learn what flavors you enjoy the more coffee you make.

    Hi Alex, I have practical question: How is it to have the machine standing under a hanging cupboard in regards to filling the water tank with fresh water? Since the tank is in the back I guess you need to move the machine from underneath the cupboard each time you fill the tank? I am asking because I have a similar setup in my kitchen and am considering this machine, but I am a bit skeptical regarding the practicability of filling the water tank when I need to move the entire machine every time. Just wondering how others are handling the situation :)

    • @alexwalshaw
      @alexwalshaw  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I use the machine everyday to make at least 2-4 drinks and I find myself filling the reservoir once or do every week. The rubber feet have a firm hold, but after a bit of coffee dust collects on them, they slide quite easily haha
      I don't have a big issue moving it, but if you wanted to make your life really easy, some felt pads instead of rubber would probably be ideal for a machine like this if you needed to move it. It's heavy enough that it likely won't slide on felt feet except for the times you pull it out to refill.

      I moved to this machine because I wanted to get more experience with professional/prosumer equipment to supplement cafe experience! I currently own a Barista Express. My wife likes that the brew stops automatically after X volume extracted. Is that possible with Mara X? Of course I'd prefer the manual handle to have precise control over the brew time and pre-infusion. Perhaps I just need to own two machines :)
    Do you feel like the Mara X was an upgrade from your previous machine?

    • @alexwalshaw
      @alexwalshaw  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately, there is no such programmability on the Mara X as it's a mechanical lever that operates the machine. Although I've never owned a barista express, I think there is a third button somewhere that allows you to do a manual shot time instead of volume based!
      I love owning this machine and is absolutely an upgrade from my La Pavoni, but that's not to say I don't miss pulling classic ratios on a lever like that! It was almost an incomparable experience making coffee on it and I do miss it from time to time. Definitely something I want to own again in the future.

I'm seeing way too many vids pop up about this machine misquoting the price as over $1500 or even $1600 in some videos. I got mine for $1300 and that's the MSRP. Interesting and good to know! I just find when I turn it on and leave it for a while, the water gets a little bit too hot, I can tell by the crackling sound it makes as it leaves the group and steam it releases that it's a bit closer to boiling than I'd like it to be, but in regular shot to shot use I don't feel the need to cool anything down as the temperature is then quite stable (just the initial shot after idling for a while).. but hey I could be totally wrong, just my experience. In terms of espresso scales, I think the one I've got by "General Goods" is alright! It was only $12 on Amazon, but since it doesn't have a timer you'll have to either use your phone or count in your head haha. I'd say any scale that is accurate to .1g is good enough! You can actually use the knock box drawer as a tamp station as it has a little cutout on the handle for the pf to sit, but the spounted pf from lelit actually sits quite flat on the table, so you should be able to tamp without a mat quite easily!
      In terms of distributors, I don't really use one, I just knock the pf until it's flat, but you can also use some needles or toothpicks to break up clumps (look up WDT tools!).
