I needed to hear this. 😁 When I was dating my now husband, he spoiled me, because he could. But many years later, we have a toddler, a dog, and only him working, and we don't live the same as when we first married. It's easy to forget the simple pleasure of re-reading a favorite book or being able to enjoy a cup of coffee at home. Your videos have helped change my perspective! Thank you chica! ❤️
I'm in the dating phase, and my boyfriend is spoiling me alright. But I know we won't be able to appraoch life this way forever. That's why I'm happy I found Mrs. Midwest. It's nice to train on budgeting, frugality and efficient home-making before marriage and kids!
My favorite part was your discussion on reframing luxury for oneself and not using social media as a reference. That's very helpful because one (myself) can easily be disappointed about not having a Chanel bag rather than being grateful for quality items that are affordable.
Aldi and second hand is how we save. We did just buy a new bed but the old one was a hand me down from my parents and it was 26 years old, it needed to be replaced. So many people were amazed we did it when my husband was making only 25k a year and I was a sahm. But we did it!
I really appreciate that you don't exactly go with the flow of modern society. Thinking a little bit old-fashioned doesn't have to be a bad thing and I think you embody that really nicely! :) Just something I missed a little bit in your tips was the environmental impact everyone has with their buying choices. Every purchase is a vote, either for or against the environment or the people who produce our products. I guess you kind of mentioned I when you talked about quality but I just wanted to put that out here again as I think we have a lot of responsibility :) Other than that, great video :) God bless you!
Haha yes same. My son really likes the hungry howies $5 kids meal. I told him maybe once a month we can get it once we move(we’ll be within walking distance so no delivery fees 🙂.)

I love seeing women embrace their femininity . It's a lost trait among us, especially nowadays. I'm a thrifty minimalist so these tips you're sharing are old-hat to me but your demeanor & the feminine way you carry yourself are very admirable. These are such great tips! Going against the grain of society is comforting (in a weird way), especially where money is concerned. I've been asking myself how people would have lived one hundred years ago with/without ____ and it really puts everything in perspective for me. Blessings!
I so appreciate this video. It is so good to know there are other young married women out there who think this way. I harp on budgeting and making our dollars go as far as we can, not because we are poor, but because its wise. Being a good steward of your money is a lost art on our modern day society, and its so good to hear others who think this way. What you mentioned especially about the "Line of Luxury" is just awesome, and I often say things the same way. Things lose meaning when you just do them all the time, and because of it we lose sight of how privileged we are as an American Society. It's crippling.
“Guard your wallet “. Yessss!! We guard our wallets from would-be thieves, but then steal from our peace of mind and from our future when we don’t guard our wallets from ourselves.
There are things that you and I think alike. For example living the old fashioned way and keeping things for many years. I haven't met anyone that thinks like that specially here in Miami. I also learned many other tips. Thank you for those videos. I love them they mean a lot to me. Specially seeing how strong is your faith and how simple and beautiful is the life you have created for you and your family. You are truly blessed. 😘
I love this!!! I’ve made so many substitutions lately, like the ones you’ve listed, to save a few bucks and it has changed my outlook on a lot. I feel like we have been led to believe that we NEED everything, especially since it becomes so many people’s jobs to tell us that we need to consume, consume, consume. And we become to accustomed to consuming those items that we feel that we cannot go without it. I almost feel guilty because when I lived in my parents house, they also consumed as much as the next modern family and they complained that they didn’t have money left to pay the electric bill. I cancelled our cable, so instead of paying $90 for television, I’m paying $11 for Netflix. I’ve bought generic food items, unless the item isn’t made by the store brand; and we don’t try to have a variety of food in the fridge because we don’t care about how many food choices we have. I’ve stopped “treating myself” with clothes that are $40+ all the time and I just browse the sale section and find similar and beautiful items for under $20. My husband and I didn’t have a wedding. We rented a dress and tux and took bridal photos instead of hosting people that we don’t care about for a ceremony. I made my own couch throw pillows myself for half the cost of what Target sells them for. We are a military couple, so we keep that in mind when we collect items like furniture, that we have to move it all when we PCS, and it limits our purchases. We don’t rent a house that’s made for 10 people if we are fine with an apartment made for the two of us and our dog. I’ve taken on more traditional and cheaper cleaning methods instead of spending $4 on a small bottle of Lysol. I stay mindful that even though Instagram bloggers are fun to follow, its not real life for me. I stay inspired by them but I don’t try to take their life. Even though I’m lacking on financial stability because I have to take student loans, I am still in a place where I don’t stay awake at night wondering “how am I going to live and pay that off?” because I have flipped the switch to living more frugal than I used to.
You are beautiful. It's not just the looks, but the gratitude for life and feminine essence is just oozing out of you. Thank you for going against the grain. The world needs smart, feminine women badly.
I have an idea for a video maybe :) I would love to learn more about being grateful, loving and happy. That is a goal that I have set for my 2019. I am a very happy person but I would love to see how others achieve being happy, loving and grateful as well. ❤
You are right on so many levels. Many people today have everything they could possibly own. And still they think their life is terrible. Some of my friends are shocked that I don't have a dishwasher machine. And I must visit a laundromat to wash my clothes. I still consider myself to be well off and I am grateful for all the things I do have.
I don't thrift really, but I clip coupons, watch for sales, and I'm growing my own oregano and basil. (I live in Oklahoma. For the last 2 years I can't get tomatoes to grow, so I'm throwing in the towel.) Clearance isles are key (70% off clearance prices though). I have also found dups for my pricey makeup - ELF has great ones! Student loans are insane! Thankfully mine and my husbands are all Federal and are on an income based payment plan.
I recently started taking some of my old stuff to make new stuff. Now I have new jewelry or new looking clothes because of this. Learn to sew and create guys. It is a useful skill.
Totally going down nostalgia Lane! This was the first video I found of yours because I was looking for a way for my husband and I to budget better. I can’t tell you how much your content has changed my life! Thank you 😊
Really enjoyed this video and your great tips and suggestions. I like the mental math concept. Something that helps me when considering a purchase is equating it with my time and income eg how many hours would I have to work to pay for this item? It really helps me evaluate my intention with any purchase and be more mindful and considerate with what I bring into my life or home. Have a lovely day 🌸💕
I appreciate these gentile reminders. I have been a homemaker for the past 20 years but recently my husband’s income has been cut dramatically so we are learning to do without and with less and I’m learning that it’s okay! A budget is very freeing. It allows you to decide where to spend strategically. Thanks for this video.
Love your channel and content! I stayed home to raise and home school our four children. During this time I thoroughly enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom/wife, doing all those wonderful, rewarding tasks including gardening, canning, sewing, etc. Now, I am an empty nester, with our youngest a freshman in college. My mind wanders to retirement years.....will there be enough? I thought I could stay home but now am second guessing that choice. I am reminded to trust in the Lord, and yet there is the practical side wondering if we will have enough. I guess my question is, "As a homemaker, do you feel you will have enough money in retirement?"
Great topic! I’ve been making an effort to live minimally, selling off things I don’t really need, Peloton bike, LV bags. Haven’t been going out socially and spending money. Also, I learned how to hack our amazon cube so that we can watch anything without having to pay for HBO etc. I wish at 24, I had been as articulate and well put together as you. Every young girl should watch your videos. Thank you!
This resonates so much! I was brought up in a working class, single income family in the 90s with a stay at home mom. She and my dad were extremely frugal and bestowed upon me the principles you've touched on here - making do, going without, being creative with the money/resources you have at hand, not buying furniture on credit, etc. Their frugality rubbed off on me and is one of the ways in which I feel I bless my husband because it seriously helps us to keep our money in check and advance toward a more money-positive future together.
You are so brave talking about this! It’s not easy to say to others I don’t have the money for that and etc, the society are trying to make us feel shameful for it. But it’s so important to be satisfied with the things you have and the budget you have. And that it’s nothing to be ashamed of. You can have a happy and joyful life!
Thank you so much for giving me faith in our younger generations again. All we seem to see in the media are grown spoilt children. You definitely made a fan in me. Your channel is pure gold!
Since I am plant based I saved a lot of money as a student. My meals are based on rice + vegetables or peas + vegetable. It requires creativity to mix it, cook it to not be bored. Also Im looking for « promotions » (sales ?) on vegetables and It makes it reeally not that expensive. I stopped desert except fruits and basic soya yogurt. Keep things simple and you will save money
Just wanted to let you know - I just adore your videos, and keep on coming back to the older content too, more or less regularly, as it it's timeless :) Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with the world!
A lady is in control of her life. She’s a problem solver. When I didn’t have much money I prioritised my spending, enjoyed the simplicity and the adventure of finding treasures in second hand shops. In fact my most precious designer garments came from charity shops. I’m also confident and have no reticence in letting people know that my wardrobe is a combination of designer, department store and charity shop pieces. Also, it’s very advantageous to read nonfiction books and gather knowledge about a range of matters as well as developing an adequate vocabulary. Love from Australia 🇦🇺
I am so grateful for your videos. I noticed that as I’ve been “spending time with you” I feel more content with what I have and am noticing the freedom I’ve gained from this busy culture (I’m in California) so thank you❤️ be blessed.
I love your channel so much. I have always felt like I had to just go out and work and work and work. What I really want is a family. I want children, a husband. I want to put my time into taking care of home, family, health and make art… i have been working through my nursing pre requisites and haven’t had time to even date. So I just dropped a few classes to take care of that!
This video was wonderful. I live pretty frugal but there's still a few things I could work on. I'm a college student but am debt free from living with in my means. I know so many friends who are in thousands of dollars of debt. Possibly never pay it off and I'm going to share this with them!
I’ve definitely cut back on my grocery consumption and realized you don’t have to have a million different meals every day. I typically eat the same breakfast and lunch and then make a different dinner every night and that’s cut back on our food spending a ton. My kids want the same food every day anyways lol. I’ve also stopped spending on cosmetics the same way and realized I don’t need the newest eye shadow palette or tons of different shampoos so now I only have one of everything and it’s so freeing not having to be concerned about buying something new or different and same goes for clothing. I only purchase new items if they are really special and something I know I’ll get a lot of use out of.
i’m trying not to spend more money on house decor i was addictive to follow the trends and always buy new stuff.. i will love to see a video of your house tour it’s so nice to see that you love and appreciate what you have 💙👍 we need tips on how not to spend and follow trends on house decor 👍🥰
This is a great topic! I am 53 and have been married for 34 years and am so thankful we embraced this idea. I did work from home for many as our children were growing up. We chose to live off one income and save the other through the years. It takes discipline but is well worth it in the end. There is such a freedom to being Debt free!
Enjoyed your video very much. I like the idea of reflecting on how people lived in the past. In addition to frugality I think my grandparents had simple routines. Baked one day during the week washed clothes by hand one day a week, walked to the grocery 2xs a week etc.
I like the one about saying no to unnecessary debt. I have never had or wanted a credit card for precisely that reason. You're essentially paying for the item twice. Another thing I think is useful and very frugal is to be as self-sufficient as you can. I'm trying to grow own food in this apartment (herbs seem to work better), but if you have or can learn the skills, making your own clothes can save a lot of money.
I have been doing this in my own by keeping a log book on my groceries, not buying coffee after i ran out when my mother gave me a ton of wonderful teas, and acknowledging that I will be fine, even feel better , for not having bought that sweet treat or fast food lunch/dinner . Not perfectly but I notice a difference and it keeps me inspired. There are some things to save up for! Like babies!!! 🥰
I used to get manicures and facials quite often, but now I only get them on special occasions. I also don't go buy new clothes often and that really helps!
@Amy Anderson Fasting will not make you loose weight, at least, not quickly. It's supposed to help your digestive system, and help you break some food addictions, excessive snacking etc.16 hours of fasting is too much for me, personally, but 12-13 hours of fasting definitely helps me feel lighter and like I have more energy. If you can have a regular sleeping schedule, and fasting routine, I promise, you will experience same changes.
You are a breath of fresh air in today’s world, it is so wonderful to see. I feel comforted knowing that there is someone else in my age group with the same line of thinking. 😊
Can you do a video on hosting and hospitality while still being single? I'd love to get some ideas. Your content is so inspirational and refreshing, thanks for that.
I love your channel. You are filling a need that I don’t see on TH-cam. I drive a BMW, but...for 3 years my daughter and I shared a car. We purchased a pre owned, certified one instead of new & saved $30,000.00. It is in perfect condition. Oh, and we paid cash. Most recently we needed a sofa. So, we started looking. We didn’t jump on the first we liked. My husband found a Pottery Barn sectional that was being sold because the couple who bought it were moving & it wouldn’t fit in the house they were moving to. Online it was $4200. We paid $600.00. That’s just 2 examples of getting really nice things for so much less. I know some people who only want something that is brand new. They look down their nose at getting second hand. One last area to save. I love to read. I could go to the library. But I share my books with my 2 daughters. I get my books online from thriftbooks & hardbound books are about $4.30 instead of $20.+. What is really cool is I have found receipts & notes in the books I have bought. It is like a sweet treasure! I hope your channel really catches on & turns people around! Your 10 tips were great!!
I pay for Amazon prime which gives me lots of benefits. I used to have Netflix. But, I went with a prime membership instead. It offers me more for one price. And I'm happy with it. I also coupon and shop at the dollar tree. I do many different things to save money.
Yay! Such a lovely practical video. Very confirming of many of the practices that I've adopted over many years. Much appreciation. Sending warm positive vibes and a shout out from Central America. 👩🏿🌾👩🏿🍳🤸🏾♀️✨
I needed your channel, even though my family is the traditional homeschool Christian family who seems they would have this kind of influence. I didn't have this for many reasons (my mom getting dementia in my teens) and other things. But I just wanted to say thank you so much for this. When I watched your channel, I realized how much I actually want to live like this. I felt lost and I had no idea this was the lifestyle I wanted. Now that ive found your channel, I feel like I've found myself. Thank you.
thank you so much! I needed this because unfortunately I am unable to work bc of a chronic desease and live at the absolute minimum right now (without husband) and I was really overwhelmed today but this video calmed me down ♥ thank you angel
I'm also started sewing my own clothes because well fitted, made of natural fabric dresses are now impossible to find in the mid price range brands. And one have to either settle for a polyester made in China that will look terrible after couple of weeks or spend hefty sum. It takes me about 2 evenings to make a nicely fitting skirt and blouse suit, made of linen and silk bland or cotton or wool with cotton and with fabric, notions, etc between $20-40. And these items last several years.
Couldn’t agree more! You give such great tips!! Looking to the past has been so helpful to me and it makes so much sense. One income living is not out of reach today just as it was the norm in the past. Our standard of living has changed and in my opinion for the worse. My husband and I (and now my daughter!) have been a one income family for many years now on a modest income without issue. We live a simple peaceful life and really don’t feel deprived at all. We are happy 💗
This is my favourite video of yours so far. Hurrah for old fashioned living! Would you perhaps do a video on having a frugal wedding? The wedding industry has gone crazy. I am getting married in September so any tips would be wonderful.
We kept our guest list to about 50 and did it in the backyard. Saved us tons! We also skipped unnecessary extras like we only had the man and maid of honor (no bridesmaids) also no bachelorette party, no engagement party, no bridal shower. Keep it simple and cut the things you can live without (garter toss, djs, alcohol, a ring pillow etc.) I got my shoes for 30 dollars and Amazon- plain beige pumps that I can wear again. Look carefully at everything and figure out what is most important for you and future hubby. Hope that helps!
God bless you and your family!!! l just want you to know that you are inspiring, beautiful, smart and re-freshing!!! what a blessing 😊😊😊 l feel like l am talking to a good friend so wholesome! thank you truly.

This video was so incredibly eye opening and you are one of the most well spoken individuals I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Thank you for making this video.
Funny that you say:, "reflect on the past " I usually go back and try to understand how Eve lived and survive for many many years. 🙂 I know it's weird but that's how I reflect by going to the past. I agree with everything you say. I've always been very frugal, and I've never had any need, I'm very content with everything that God provides in my life. Thank you for your video. I couldn't have said it any better. 💜
These are the tips that I needed to hear, I really want to be a housewife but I came from a family that was really into overspending and so it's hard for me to kinda figure out budgeting and things like that but these will help for sure! Oh, a random I guess like 11th tip is to learn how to DIY it. Like there are tons of Pinterest recipes you can find online to recreate your favorite specialty coffee and do it at a much cheaper price or how to do your own nails. Investing in DIY stuff can help in the long run
We are in the process of buying our first home. Trying to stay under budget but also cost of homes and rising interest rates are doing us no favors. I have run the numbers a hundred times, and still anxious that we will have trouble making ends meet when I stop working full time. Thank you for making videos like this! It's helpful and validating!
"as a homemaker, when you're not bringing in money, your biggest job is to save money." You nailed it with that one. I'm not a homemaker, but I am a low-earner at this stage of my career. My boyfriend makes substantially more money than I do, and is in charge of our biggest bills as a result. Working on saving is new to me, but empowering. I don't need another $10 nail polish when I'm also budgeting to host a party, visit my family for Christmas, and purchase some self-gifts during the after-christmas sales period.
That mental math tip is gold! That's actually a tip I haven't heard before. I've watched a lot of these videos and usually I've done everything that they suggest but this is new and very useful. Thank you
Try taking online surveys on your phone. I didnt know this would work but you get points for surveys 10 bucks at 1,000 points. Even though its not much if your bored and looking to save money, you can set up gift cards to buy extra groceries on the days without money.

I was wondering.. what does your husband do for work?
a great tip is the 50/30/20 rule:
after taxes,
50% to necessities (rent, food, bills, etc.)
30% to wants (entertainment, leisure, etc.)
20% to savings/retirement
I wish
my bills are about 70 percent of my income currently 😭
If I make enough money, I know how to distribute them. Obviously. People struggle because their necessities often are 100% even 120% of their income. So you can't devide something so small on so many pieces.

I love this content. Very refreshing and grounding. I am happy to find others who love a simple yet classy and frugal lifestyle.

Highly recommend you check out Charlotte on Milk and Honey life she has great stuff on positivity
I love watching this community grow! Wonderful content, please keep it coming. 😘
I recently started taking some of my old stuff to make new stuff. Now I have new jewelry or new looking clothes because of this. Learn to sew and create guys. It is a useful skill.
I agree. I'm learning to sew so that I can make my own skirts and dresses, it's so satisfying to be able to create!
I was literally just about to look up videos about budgeting and frugality when youir notification popped up! Perfect timing 😁
May I suggest studying The great depression. There is TONS to learn how they made do!
Totally going down nostalgia Lane! This was the first video I found of yours because I was looking for a way for my husband and I to budget better. I can’t tell you how much your content has changed my life! Thank you 😊
I haven't even seen the video and I already know it's going to be awesome! God bless you!🌺
Really enjoyed this video and your great tips and suggestions. I like the mental math concept. Something that helps me when considering a purchase is equating it with my time and income eg how many hours would I have to work to pay for this item? It really helps me evaluate my intention with any purchase and be more mindful and considerate with what I bring into my life or home. Have a lovely day 🌸💕
7 TH tip with reserving 'line of luxury ' makes so much sense ! I never thought of that so thanks for the reminder!
FINALLY, a youtuber like you exists! You're such a breath of fresh air, thank you for sharing with us!
Would you do a video all about how you choose your clothing and modest outfits? Love your videos!
Wow right on time because I just spent an unnecessary amount of money on jewelry 😭
We all have those times 😊😊
Check out Dave Ramsey
If its gold or silver you should see it as an investment.
If you already spent in, than its not exactly "right on time".
Been there too
Love your channel and content!
Mr Midwest is one lucky man
Had to watch twice to remember all of the great tips!!! Thank you for such an abundance of helpful tips!!!
My bachelorette party was in my parents garden with a few girl friends, yummy food, some fun games and crafting 😊 exactly what I wanted!!
Diana Alonso I struggle with the same thing!😩
This is a great topic! I am 53 and have been married for 34 years and am so thankful we embraced this idea. I did work from home for many as our children were growing up. We chose to live off one income and save the other through the years. It takes discipline but is well worth it in the end. There is such a freedom to being Debt free!
hey. When is hubby coming to the show?
Yes!!!!!
I don't want him to come on here because people are sick in the world... especially since he's a police officer!! 😭
How the hell do you this time to watch everything??!! I find you in every video I watch whaaa 😂😂
@@Najo99812 He's doing it to get recognition, probably to gain traffic to his channel.
Thank you! My personal tip is : remove distractions that make you think you don't have enough such as social media
Enjoyed your video very much. I like the idea of reflecting on how people lived in the past. In addition to frugality I think my grandparents had simple routines. Baked one day during the week washed clothes by hand one day a week, walked to the grocery 2xs a week etc.
So glad to hear someone talk about frugality and saving money! Love the video and your ways of saving - they are really good.
Omg this is amazing! I love this channel so much and appreciate how much you care about women cultivating femininity💛
Intermittent fasting reduces your grocery bill and waistline.
Miss List yes it does.
👏🏻😂❤️
@Amy Anderson Fasting will not make you loose weight, at least, not quickly. It's supposed to help your digestive system, and help you break some food addictions, excessive snacking etc.16 hours of fasting is too much for me, personally, but 12-13 hours of fasting definitely helps me feel lighter and like I have more energy. If you can have a regular sleeping schedule, and fasting routine, I promise, you will experience same changes.
You are one of the few TH-camrs that actually treat $50 like a lot of money. *IT IS!* Thank you for this video!
Would you ever start a podcast??? I really enjoy your videos! They are encouraging:)
Could you do a video on living for God?
I love what you’re doing ♥️. I know you’re a stay at home, but maybe you could do video about how to stay feminine when you have busy life.
I tend to hear all the same tips every where but you explaining in your own words is very helpful and insightful. I appreciatchya! ☀🌴🌊
Are you Dutch? My betrothed is Dutch. I'm watching all your videos. I really appreciate all you share. Lots of love and prayers for you, sister ❤
Shopping in my closet is soo much fun! I find things that I didn’t remember that I had!
Glad I found this channel, watching all your old videos!
This is my favourite video of yours so far. Hurrah for old fashioned living!
Would you perhaps do a video on having a frugal wedding? The wedding industry has gone crazy. I am getting married in September so any tips would be wonderful.
Yesssss this would be awesome!
I won’t be spending hardly anything for mine
God bless you and your family!!! l just want you to know that you are inspiring, beautiful, smart and re-freshing!!! what a blessing 😊😊😊 l feel like l am talking to a good friend so wholesome! thank you truly.
I rewatch this video every few months. Helps me with remembering your tips 😊
I am so happy your channel is growing! I am getting married in June and moving from a part time to a full time position in order to be better to make a home for my future husband!
I would love more videos like this and femininity! I’ve already watched these videos multiple times on your channel 😅 also have you ever thought about a podcast?
Dear Mrs Midwest, Never stop creating your videos, you are a huge inspiration to me, since there I live femininity and modesty is looked down upon. Your Videos encouraged me to stay true to my nature. Lots of love
It's awesome to watch your videos and see how it seems every video there's another 1K watching.
I love your tips Caitlin…redefine what is normal…thank you and God bless you! We need more feminine, wise, good women like yourself, hugs 🤗
Your videos are becoming part of my everyday routine thank you for your advice and it is sooo helpful :)
I’m so happy to read this 🥰🥰 I feel so honored to be a chosen part of your day. Xoxo
Thank you
You are wise beyond your years and a breath of fresh air!!
Try taking online surveys on your phone. I didnt know this would work but you get points for surveys 10 bucks at 1,000 points. Even though its not much if your bored and looking to save money, you can set up gift cards to buy extra groceries on the days without money.
