1- Shah was very sensitive to the change in the White House:
When Carter took over on Jan/1977, In response to this change and Carter's support for "human rights" and his implied criticism of the regimes that don't respect human rights, Shah decided to seek for a new prime minister.
If memory serves me right, he did the same thing once John Kennedy became president in 1961; as Ali Amini became prime minister.
If Gerald Ford had won the race in 1976, I don't think Shah would have ordered Hoveida to resign.
2- The reason for Zahedi's hate for Hoveida is obvious: Zahedi thought he, not Hoveida deserved to be prime minister; his political and personal ambitions were no longer satisfied with being an ambassador or the secretary of foreign affairs.
He probably thought that with his background; participating in the CIA led 1953 coup in overthrowing the democratically elected administration of Mossadegh and with his marriage to Shah's daughter, he had more political capital than anybody else. However, Shah obviously had different ideas.
