I have a suspicion that these two men go back 25yrs or more knowing one another in the DC circles. I clearly see the respect they have for each other, and regardless the topic, they have civil debates and respectful conversations. Just my assessment from all interaction witnessed.

You know, the thing I just can't seem to understand about these people who are so adamantly against Democratic socialism, is their failure to acknowledge the fact that in theory, the United States ALREADY IS a Democratic Socialist country in so many ways.. All that "Democratic Socialism" essentially is, is the practice of a capitalist-type economy with social safety nets.. Here's an example: If the U.S. truly practiced capitalism, the big banks and corporations of 2008 would have been allowed to fail, rather than being bailed-out.. These self-proclaimed "Conservatives" never seem to have a problem with welfare and other socialist policies as long as they're working in favor of giant corporations and to-big-to-fail banks. But the moment we lend a helping hand to the poor and other people who TRULY need it, they lose their minds! And that's what pisses me off about this whole thing - the HYPOCRISY!
Don't get me wrong, I'll be the first to admit that there's a problem with people abusing welfare programs across the country, and that is definitely something that should be addressed and fixed. However, if you're more outraged over the idea of helping poor, working-class people , than you are over the giving of 10's of billions of dollars a year to corporations that are already worth billions/trillions of dollars, you just may be heartless, on top of already being brainless.. Y'all are constantly asking where we would get this money to pay for things like universal healthcare? Socialism worked in the USSR, China, Cuba, Vietnam, East Germany, Romania, Yugoslavia, DPRK, etc. Compare pre and post Socialism levels in the following areas: GDP, life expectency, employment, homelessness, food security, health care access and affordability, education affordability and availability at all levels, crime, prevalance of sexism/racism, etc. In EVERY INSTANCE, those measures IMPROVED under Socialism. In the case of the USSR and Communist Bloc states, the transition to Capitalism in the 1990s meant a MASSIVE DROP in GDP, life expectancy, and a MASSIVE INCREASE in crime, homelessness, unemployment, racism, sexism, suicide, etc. Socialism is OBJECTIVELY BETTER.

It's amazing how these blacks speak for everyone else, but no one else speaks for black Americans. Also we way over 25 million illegal aliens in our country already. What has been going on is open borders from Mexico and the other south American countries. Cornell West was not able to give a single example of a country where democratic socialism has been successful. That was just horrible. There are many countries that have implemented similar system - scandinavian countries, netherlands and some other western european countries. Venezuela had socialism, not the democratic socialism.
