In every single video I see of a live Japanese concert, audience participation is AMAZING. They always seem to be pumping their hands up in the air with glow-sticks and singing along. :P It looks like they have so much more fun than people at our concerts...

It's not for a fake anime, the anime actually exists. You must think of Genshiken where the anime is in, but it do exists and is a real anime. Though it's not the same as it is in Genshiken. You can say that this anime, Kujibiki Unbalance, "guests" in Genshiken".
Sad maybe, but totally unsurprising. Otakus are Otakus because they are ultra-fans. A hardcore fan group is definitely going to be better at this kind of thing as long as they are positive people and willing to do it. Otakus are probably the only group of fans that can work together to accomplish a singular goal in honor of whoever their obsession is.
