I am a HUGE MLB the show player. I grew up playing baseball into college. Baseball at one point was my whole life, literally lol. That being said, I think it’s very cool that you’re right away just going into OOTP, OOTP is very complicated for me. With the news of the A’s going to Vegas I had to look up a play through! I’m excited for this!
as long as you know 100 is league average for OPS+ (offense generated at the plate) and ERA+ (rate of scoring allowed against as a pitcher) you'll have a decent idea of how well a player is performing. Higher is better on both. also if the "WAR" stat of a starting player is above 2 after the season is over, that's also an indication your player is doing well, and is a decent stat to choose if you only want to look at one number. WAR tries to look at all dimensions of a player's game to give them one "value", but can be less precise than looking deeper at a specific player. good for overviews of a lot of players though. "Foolish baseball" has a good video called "how to lie with baseball stats" that is worth watching if you want to learn more about other stats.

Ironically I am a long time Football Manager player and the new trend there is MONEYBALL. Usually, I stick to Perfect Team on OOTP. But, I'm going to try a GM only game starting unemployed and advance one year to build up a year of stats. We'll see how that goes.
Glad to hear it. Funnily enough I am a big football manager player myself, had them all since 2012! Been giving it a go with Wrexham this year, I do like the realism and un-predictability of this game though... especially with no hardwired potential. Really mixes things up game to game
@@SkinnyPeteYT I always start my first save with Stoke City. Then, with the March update, I always start a career save unemployed. Having a hard time getting into the save at Sheffield United, so I'm going to take a break and concentrate on OOTP for a while.
@@Ignats75 Any reason for stoke every year? 😂 Like the colours though, I'm a Southampton fan. Yeah that's not a bad idea... OOTP can be very addictive! although I do get stuck into a FM save again every now and then
@@SkinnyPeteYT back in 1967, they brought whole teams over to the USA to try and get professional soccer started. Cleveland had the Cleveland Stokers. Including Gordon Banks. I went to some of their games. Have been a SCFC fan ever since.
@@SkinnyPeteYT One of my best friends is an Englishman who had to move home. I still miss Martin. Anyway, he is a Leeds fan and lives up that way. However, his daughter owns a pub about a 15 minute walk from St Mary's Stadium. Its called something like The Book shoppe and sells books too.
I know you are enjoying it but how is this game ? I play FM 23 smashing it went un beaten in league with Rangers moved to leeds went un beaten in the league with them (Championship) and now top of Prem couple of games to go, but how does this compare to FM ? I just started getting into Baseball so my knowledge isn't great but I think I have the just of it. Texas Rangers fan.
Honestly fm is a lot easier I would say. Also a lot of the player in fm are hardcoded and you always no how good they are or how good they will be... whereas in this game literally any player can be good, their potential and ability can improve depending on their ability and potential and it'll change game to game!!
