    Why can’t we get these vans in the uk!? They’re the cutest! Ideal for all of our tiny roads in the countryside

    • @richardlytton
      @richardlytton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Probably, you can. I think that the van shown in the video was a daihatsu. During 2015, I employed an agent, with offices in both england and Japan, and, as, as a result of doing so, I was able to import a vehicle, similar to what that camper van's base vehicle would probably look like. I imported a subaru sambar. As I was importing a vehicle less than 10 years old, I had to pay about £2000 extra. Importing a vehicle more than 10 years old would have been much cheaper. The rules may have changed more recently. My charges included having to pay for the speedo to be converted from km to miles, despite the fact that I'd have been happy to stick with km, back then, which is an opinion of mine which hasn't changed, since then. As it happens, I'm now living in Romania, so it would have been a better situation for me if I would have been allowed to stick with km. However, I've not been forced to switch back to miles, since re-registering in RO, and / so I haven't done so, as that would have cost me yet more money. I love driving a short, and small, forward control van. However, importing spare parts from Japan is expensive. Currently, I have, on order, front disc pads, front left caliper, 2 front brake discs and the totally unnecessary plastic cover for the centre part of any one of the wheels. The cost for these parts, including delivery, is around £650 / 845 USD / 3900 lei. Cuteness will continue to have it's own costs, related to import charges, unless the manufacturers will make Japanese vehicles available locally, thereby allowing people to avoid the extra costs and hassle which come with importing from Japan. Don't hold your breath, in regards to forward control vans becoming more easily available in the UK. The UK and the EU now prefer that vehicles should have crumple zones. Unfortunately, any driver, or front seat passenger, in one of these cute forward control vehicles, has their legs in the crumple zone, and is likely to lose them, in the event of a crash. Some years, ago, I was driving a suzuki supercarry, and was involved in a crash which wrote it off. At about 30 mph, I crashed into another car, which was barely dented. Thankfully, the damage to my van was all on the passenger's side, and I didn't have a passenger at that time. If I would have had a passenger at that time, they would probably have lost their legs, as the glovebox ended up rammed up against the seat, on the LHS. That experience didn't put me off of driving such vehicles, though. They're not only cute, they're also practical, easy to park, and they're fun to drive, and they make giving way, at junctions with limited visability, much easier. It's sad to see that the idea of anything being fun to drive has been binned off, especially as boring automatics and electric cars have become more popular, or at least talked about more, online.

    Thank you for showing us global camping options. In North America, we are into excess providing the most revenue for the auto manufacturers. This makes the cost unattainable for most people who would want to camp. Leasing fees are a minimum of 7% over 96 months!!! Sad. Wish there was a version of these campers for the other continents.

    As the campers get smaller, the prices get higher. lol. Nah but I don't know if these are fair prices for what you are getting. Defiantly cheaper than I excepted but I would have to see the thing in person to see how small it really is.

    Sorry, but it's gd fkn absurd we can't have anything like this in America. Here it'll be 5x larger, and 10x that cost. I love Japan. Spent a summer there in 1995. Should've stayed. US sucks it
