    I was a Dallas Fuel Fan even before they were called Dallas Fuel. The Grand Finals were an emotional roller coaster that ended in a victory.
    BUT, my heroes of the year are the London Spitfire. This years run has to be a story that will be told in legends.
    Also: Chadi! This man has to be RL Reinhardt. He captured the hearts of the community with 1 single sentence in an interview and a couple of pushups. What a legend.

    Could you guys go back to the stage tier list that you did last season, I missed them this year and it’ll be a good activity to do now that the season’s over. Also maybe do a playoffs tier list as well (now that there’s been 5 years of playoffs)

  • @nicker10yearsago21
    @nicker10yearsago21 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    As a Philly fan, I want to add something to the discussion that worried me going into playoffs and I considere that happened. Philly had a tendency this season to start pretty bad in a new meta and eventually, as the weeks passed, get a better grasp of the meta and start playing some pretty disgusting Overwatch. All their good runs were in a meta they had played all stage long and all their flop games came at the start of the stage, so yeah I was pretty worried entrying playoffs and unfortunately for us Philly fans, the cycle of mysery repeated itself

    I think it would be fun if for the 2 weeks break for teams to practice playoffs, there was a "Best of the rest" tournament for all the teams that didn't make playoffs. It could even part of an All-stars games, etc. It both gives us more content, and the players more practice, which improves the quality of the matches.

    As an Outlaws fan, I did not expect them to make top 3 in THIS meta. I expected maybe top 6. Which is what you guys said. :) I'm a fan but pretty realistic. So they over performed and unlocked a lot of potential.
    On the Outlaws not getting nominated. Merit was more consistent than Kai throughout the entire year lol. Like not even remotely close. Kai was also benched a lot. Merit was not. Hadi and Danteh had the same roles for their teams except Danteh and his team won more than London , like not on the final stage, throughout the entire year. Their technical worst stage was the last stage, because they clearly didn't try after they demolished Shock and Fuel xD lol

    In regards to playoff format, winners/losers bracket is better than single elim, group stages are just a ridiculous thing, however the series format from season 1 could be a good thing to help really show the better of close teams. The only problem with winners bracket is that the winner gets no advantage of a second loss like every team does, they have that burden of the one loss means it's all gone away, sure there's a game less, but it's still a problem and a disadvantage that even Andy Miller has brought up from both sides of the bracket.

    Seoul and Gladiators are my 2 teams, so watching the playoffs was really hard lol. Shock knocked both of them out, so I was rooting for Dallas in the finals, glad they ended up winning. I feel like after they lost Ans and Patiphan the Glads fell off. Patiphan ultimately played really well this season, showing flexibility on some crazy heroes and I feel like he could have played Reaper really well. Ans could be so clutch when they needed him to be, Happy is more consistent maybe but Ans definitely has higher peaks

    Shoutout to the forgotten mvp of this title run: Decay. Who knows if Dallas assembles this roster if not for whatever happened behind the scenes 2 years ago that they released Decay during the season then blew up the whole roster after the year. Perhaps they'd have simply just tried to build something around Decay and Doha.

  • @nathanpayson9859
    @nathanpayson9859 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I know they joked about how fans criticize them for not talking about Dallas enough, but I still felt like you went more in depth into Shock's success than Dallas's. With Shock, you went player by player and talked about how each of them did, doting praise on Striker, Mickey, etc. With Dallas, you never talked about Fielder's Kiriko being probably the best in the league and how effective he was at using his ults (which he consistently got faster than his opponents). You also didn't mention how good Edison has become at Sojourn. While he wasn't "As" good, he still beat proper enough that the rest of Dallas was able to consistently win. I also felt like it's imporant to note that Dallas got more role star awards than any other team with 4 different players getting them, which means that 5 of the 6 main players on Dallas (Hanbin, Fearless, Fielder, Sparkle, and Chiyo) have all gotten MVP noms and Role Stars in the last two seasons.
    What I'm trying to say, is I wish you would talk more about "why" this team is so good and what specifically this team did so well to win the playoffs.

    not sure about playoffs profit narrative anymore. after the amazing 2020 playoffs he played in six playoffs/tournaments (2021 CC, 2021 play-ins, 2022 KC, 2022 MM, 2022 SS, 2022 playoffs) and was amazing in only one of them which is 2022 KC. even if i take out 2022 SS in which he played brig that is still only one out of five, 20%. for those who give excuses blaming the rest of the team, coaching, regional differences and blah blah blah, wasn't this what playoffs profit was all about carrying the team no matter what the circumstances? i'm not trying to disregard profit he was so good this season a role star and i actually think he could not have done a lot individually in this 2022 playoffs in particular but he hasn't been showing up in the playoffs recently and that is a fact. i don't understand how people are still glorifying and clinging on to the "playoffs profit mode" when it's only 20%. he is still a very good player but the narrative is realistically more of a hope than belief nowadays.

      Tournaments aren’t playoffs tho and this playoffs is on Tobi for panicking after a loss to Dallas and putting him on support during the shock game. He didn’t make playoffs in 2021 despite the team going 12-4. The reason it’s a thing is bc it happened in 2017, 2018, 2020. Yes it didn’t happen this year. The team didn’t get the meta and put him on support as I said, but no other player in the history of owl has gotten a role star in their 5th season and has been good as long. People said he was gonna fall off this season then he proceeds to have one of his best seasons of his career. I blame it on coaching for not adapting when they had the pieces to make it work and figure it out.

    Calling shock winning even through the losers bracket a miracle is a bit insane to me considering how good they've been all year and consistent at it their players have been top ten, they had proper the triple award winner... I can not see that as a miracle rather than yup shock following the shock script lol which is why I'm happy they lost I like storylines like fearless or Edison rather than just the expected shock winning it all yet again

      It kinda is tho? Like ya theyve been very good all yr.. but like havent won a stage title or anything this season. Plus during the CC stage they probably looked the worse they have been the whole season (altho ig u could argue that a lot of teams let off the gas bcuz the meta was changing for playoffs) and since we didnt really know exactly the playoffs patch going into playoffs everyone was unsure of how good they'd b. I think consensus was top 5, but not winning/grand finalists. Seoul, dallas the more favorites coming in, glads possibly 3rd best chance, and shock/dragons were the kind of outside 4/5th spot chance.
      Also i understand the dislike towards shock, but i think ppl keep forgetting that this is almost entirely a whole new squad. Only like 2 out of the 8 players r not rookies and have played for the shock before. It's a pretty crazy run to think about that

      @@NaruBrilu they've gotten close to winning, twice. so them getting second place isn't a miracle run, that's what I meant. Them winning would be them finally breaking whatever curse is stopping them from getting to that final step. top 5 is so much better than most teams miracle would imply that it was very unlikely, a miracle is hanzhou charge not sucking tbh and if they made it further, that'd be a miracle run a top contender that had placed second place twice in a year with top quality players isn't a miracle that's like the take reinforce had about shanghai dragons being a dark horse lol when again they're a good team and even if they underperformed, we know what quality they can bring too much quality to really be a dark horse
      a two time champion, a runner up of two tournament, top 5 all year, record breaking season win and them getting second is a miracle??? miracle is just outlandish for what they did - they met expectations, top 4 was always the expectation, at least

It's insane that they were able to basically carry on the legacy of the team. Also like during CC they looked the worst they ever were this season, and with the uncertainty of the meta ppl had no idea if they would do well or not. Like probably around top 5, but on the edge of the five was the feeling i had going into the playoffs this year. Like i mentioned b4, dallas and seoul were the 2 favorites over everyone, glads were a close 3rd option, everyone thought the meta was gonna b great for them bcuz of Shu on Kiriko. The grand finals was absolutely fantastic; probably the best ever. That said, the playoffs overall? They were not. There was a LOT of 3-0verwatch. The meta shake-up was far too extreme for the amount of time the teams had to prepare. They needed another week or even 2 for the real meta, and appropriate counter-play to be discovered. I think Fuel and Shock were easily among the top 4 or 5 best teams in the league, so I'm not at all disappointed in the grand finals. But the complete lack of hero diversity in comps I think is more a damning commentary on how woefully short a time the teams had to explore the patch than anything else, and the crazy mix up of team power rankings is likely more a product of scrim partners and early comp reads than actual valid placements based on team talent and ability. In short, the league opted to sodomize competitive integrity leading into the playoffs (to perhaps the worst degree we've seen since season 1). But that grand finals game? My god that was some GOOD overwatch. What a game!

    I think the league really messed up by using a franchising model. It was so much better pre OWL. They need to go back to how they did it like League of Legends. When I watch Worlds, there’s never a full moment. From the draft all the way through the match, there’s never a dull moment. I just don’t get excited watching OWL because there’s no cool narratives, Cinderella stories are basically non-existent, and more.
