A Man of Love: St. John the Evangelist & Theologian

"To love as the Lord Jesus and the Apostle John teach requires maturity, humility, self-knowledge, courage, and sacrifice....Most of us think of love in terms of what we can get instead of what we can give. Most people see the question of love as being loved rather than loving, of getting love rather than giving oneself in love. And in spite of our loneliness - a true pandemic in our society today, and one of the reasons for an escalating suicide rate especially among young people - in our culture, almost everything else is considered to be more important than love: success, prestige, money, power. These are our gods now. These are our idols, is what I should say. These are the things that we worship in our culture today. Not the God whom John says IS love." May our Lord give many many years for all the John's out there, today being his Holy Feast Day celebrated by all us Ortho Christians. May St John intercede for all us living and for the reposed and for my best friend John that sadly took his own life few years ago. ❤
