We celebrate Victory Day every year on May 9th. We are the last generation who see live veterans of that terrible war who gave their lives for a peaceful sky above their heads and the overthrow of the Nazi regime.
The saddest thing that some of the bravest warriors never got to see Victory , they were wounded and died with only hopes and prayers of what could be accomplished
Two of my uncles fought against the Nazis in the Great World War of 2. one in France into Germany the other uncle fought them from Algeria to Sicily and all the way up through Italy ! !Russia and other Slavic countries had it much worse.

В России наверное нет семьи, которую бы не коснулась великая отечественная война. Об этом нужно помнить. И такие видео очень отрезвляют и заставляют задуматься о том, что войны никому не нужны. Эти люди вернули нам мир. Даже ценой своей жизни. Многие улыбаются, хотя по сути вернулись из ада.
Слезы, потому что это правда. У моего отца тоже семья была из 4 братьев, правда не во время войны жили уже, но если была такая семья в году так 42, то слова отражают правду, не все вернулись, но никто не забыт.

Good afternoon! My grandfather (my mother's father) is a Don Cossack, during the war he was a lieutenant. He has a medal "For the Defense of Moscow". Lost a leg. Another grandfather (my dad's dad) is a descendant of Belarusian nobles, was a partisan in the war. After the war, he married a girl (my grandmother) who was a concentration camp prisoner (she got into a concentration camp at the age of 15). Until her death (died in 1993) she screamed in her sleep. I was born on the land of the Don Cossacks in the city of Novocherkassk. Not far from our city, the Germans buried alive the inhabitants of a small village, in which only the elderly, women and children remained, because all the men had gone to the front. They say the ground was moving for several days, people were trying to get out of the ground, so the Germans put machine gunners on top. Watch the movie "Go and See", it will help you understand that war a little.

Foreigners don’t understand what such honors are for, why celebrate some obscure victory that God knows how many years ago. It's not too inaccurate. That style of synchronized marching and "showing off" is typical for authoritarian states and dictatorships. Nazi Germany wasn't first but in the current day it's countries like Russia, NK and China who still parade that way. Countries somewhat obsessed with their image and appearance of strength. Also, as much credit as the USSR deserves for defeating the Nazis and the massive sacrifice of life required to do so, the USSR and the red army were not good guys in WW2 either. Both the Nazis and the communists were evil, however you define evil. Both invaded other countries to expand their territory and murdered, imprisoned, deported and oppressed the peoples living in those countries. Many in my family were killed by Soviet invaders, their homes stolen and destroyed and their ancestral land never returned. Yet we see the perpetrators of such injustices celebrate themselves as heroes every year. That can also make one feel quite sad. In an ideal world, both the Nazi regime and the Soviet one would have been crushed.

В России наверное нет семьи, которую бы не коснулась великая отечественная война. Об этом нужно помнить. И такие видео очень отрезвляют и заставляют задуматься о том, что войны никому не нужны. there are different uniforms because there are different types of military are represented (like navy, air force, etc). The parade take place every year on 9th of May. In the beginning there were actual veterans marching if I'm not mistaken but now they are usually guests of honor and watch parade from the benches.

Good afternoon! My grandfather (my mother's father) is a Don Cossack, during the war he was a lieutenant. He has a medal "For the Defense of Moscow". Lost a leg. Another grandfather (my dad's dad) is a descendant of Belarusian nobles, was a partisan in the war. His entire family (father, mother and nine younger brothers and sisters) were burned alive by the Germans in a wooden house. After the war, he married a girl (my grandmother) who was a concentration camp prisoner (she got into a concentration camp at the age of 15). Until her death (died in 1993) she screamed in her sleep. I was born on the land of the Don Cossacks in the city of Novocherkassk. Not far from our city, the Germans buried alive the inhabitants of a small village, in which only the elderly, women and children remained, because all the men had gone to the front. They say the ground was moving for several days, people were trying to get out of the ground, so the Germans put machine gunners on top. Watch the movie "Go and See", it will help you understand that war a little.

It's not too inaccurate. That style of synchronized marching and "showing off" is typical for authoritarian states and dictatorships. Nazi Germany wasn't first but in the current day it's countries like Russia, NK and China who still parade that way. Countries somewhat obsessed with their image and appearance of strength.
Also, as much credit as the USSR deserves for defeating the Nazis and the massive sacrifice of life required to do so, the USSR and the red army were not good guys in WW2 either. Both the Nazis and the communists were evil, however you define evil. Both invaded other countries to expand their territory and murdered, imprisoned, deported and oppressed the peoples living in those countries.
Many in my family were killed by Soviet invaders, their homes stolen and destroyed and their ancestral land never returned. Yet we see the perpetrators of such injustices celebrate themselves as heroes every year.
That can also make one feel quite sad.
In an ideal world, both the Nazi regime and the Soviet one would have been crushed.

Some of my relatives didn`t come back. Some did, I know about 2 of them. My grandmother`s father was one of them. That was a miracle. They lived under Germans in Rostov for a year and smthng, she was born after her father left for army and when they were in occupation.
My other grandmother was evacuated from Odessa to Tashkent in 1941 in age of 4. Thanks god her mother stopped to fight and did that. Check the map. They were Jewish, no way to survive.

They must maintain the order and the path of the march, while the others can salute by looking at the guests and president. Otherwise, they would lose their direction and their perfect lining.

The Nazis had this plan, Generalplan Ost (Plan for the East), where they thought they would conquer Eastern Europe and Russia. They wanted to enslave all the people they didn't exterminate and work them on plantations like the Deep South had before the US Civil War--actual slavery. Is not that the fireworks are green but the film they used to document their victory celebration and yes the black and white film is real, basically every army has military photographers who are part of a military group of political officers, their job is to document history in photos and video among other military tasks, as a photographer myself I love to use very old film, Fomapan is one of my favorites from the Czech Republic founded in 1921, now days if you wish to document images that look green Lomography Metropolis is a good option. Something interesting is Ferrania which used to produce explosives for the Italian Army and eventually they decided to just produce 35mm film, some of the best Italian movies from the 50's and 60's were filmed with Ferrania.
