Alan Rickman agreed to do the first 30 feet of his drop into an airbag. He was very nervous, so the director said "Ok. We are going to drop you on the count of three. One... Two... and dropped him on two. That is the look pf surprise you see on his face in the final film.
Clarence Gilyard Jr., the actor who played Theo in this movie (and Walker's partner on Walker Texas Ranger) just passed away earlier this week. He gave a fantastic performance in this movie, so many great little details that give his character such personality beyond just "the bad guy that's good with computers". Rest in peace.
This checks all the boxes for a Christmas movie: set during the holidays, music, decorations, party, family and friends together/reconciling, making new friends, and some jackass getting punched in the face!😄🎄
There is a solid and logical reason why this movie can be considered a Christmas movie, and that is, were this film set at any other time of the year, the plot would not work. Why is John McLane is Los Angeles? Christmas. Why is the building short staffed? Christmas. Why did the crew choose now to make their assault on the building? Christmas means the hostages will all be in one easily controlled place. So yeah, this movie must happen at Christmas, therefore its a Christmas movie and not merely a movie that takes place at Christmas.
A Japanese corporation was being robbed and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony was a big part of the movie. Beethoven’s 9th Symphony is the classical music for Christmas in Japan, not The Nutcracker.
There are 5 Die Hard movies in Total I hope you react to them all Die Hard, Die Hard 2 Die Harder, Die Hard with a Vengeance, Die Hard 4.0 (Titled Live Free or Die Hard in America), A Good Day to Die Hard
OH yes, definitely an Xmas movie! :D The funny thing about the fire alarm...I worked for a fire department, and when an alarm like that happens, even if someone from the building calls and says 'oh, false alarm ' - they STILL rolled out and went to the location to make sure. It was SOP.
Not only is Die Hard a Christmas movie, it's greatest Christmas movie ever made. The other top five being: Die Hard 2: Die Harder A Christmas Story Lethal Weapon It's A Wonderful Life Honorable mention: A Long Kiss Goodnight
Other classic action movies: Rambo: First Blood (1982, not just an action movie but a REALLY touching movie about the struggles of vets after coming back from Vietnam), Commando (1985), The Rock (1996), Cliffhanger (1993) and Brotherhood of the Wolf (2001). Oh speaking of wolf... not action but The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)... insane movie! Shocking, comedic and based on a true story!
Christmas movie!! One of my favorite Christmas movies. Christmas also plays into the plot. She was at the office because of the Christmas party and he was in town for Christmas. There was a Christmas atmosphere and Christmas music too.
I actually saw an Advent Calendar advertised this week that has the Nakatomi Tower with a movable "falling Hans" figurine that you can move down the building for 25 days...
When this movie came out, I watched it an unhealthy number of times in the theater! Still love it and LOVE the late, great, Alan Rickman as Hans Grüber! Die Hard wouldn't have been nearly as good without his great baddie! Miss you, Alan. ❤
Die Hard and Die Hard 2 Die Harder are the only Die Hard movies I would consider as Christmas movies because they are the only ones that take place at Christmas the others are good movies though
One of my favorites. One of my favorites you should react to is The Final Countdown (1980) The U.S.S. Nimitz goes back to December 6th, 1941. It's filmed on the Nimitz.
BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE EVER MADE! Before Bruce Willis as cast as John McClane, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Harrison Ford, Kevin Costner, Jeff Bridges, Nick Nolte, Sylvester Stallone, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere, Clint Eastwood, Paul Newman, Charles Bronson, James Caan, Warren Beatty, Ryan O'Neal, Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Robert Redford, And Kurt Russell were considered for the part.
It's a Christmas movie. It all happened on Christmas eve and John was there. If it hadn't been Christmas, he wouldn't have been there to give us this Christmas gift as Hans Gruber falls off the Natomic building. An evil villian. His plans were too to actually kill the hostages anyway with the roof blowing and he didn't even care about Karl at all. John and Holly got back together and John went home for Christmas. And he got a very good present. A great friend, AL Powell
I always watch this around Christmas, since it's a Christmas film. It's centered around Christmas, and the plot itself couldn't happen unless it was Christmas. The terrorists chose the Christmas party, since fewer people would be in the building. Lethal Weapon is set during Christmas, but the plot isn't exactly centered around the holiday. Gremlins is another Christmas film, the plot hinges on it being Christmas, since the Mogwai is given as a Christmas gift to Billy.
If the Die Hard 2 reaction is coming out on Monday December 5th, then I will definitely like it. If for nothing else, then for the reasons that December 6th is the Finnish Independence Day and the director of the film was Renny Harlin who is of Finnish descent. Plus it is also a kick ass action movie.
⭐⭐⭐⭐ One of my favorite movies of all time! 👉If you want to watch the exact same movie with Stephen Seagal on a boat, check out 'Under Siege'. And if you want the exact same movie with Jean-Claude Van Damme in a stadium, 'Sudden Death'.
Bruce Willis’ break out Classic! Recently learned, ‘Sixth Sense’ instead of his $14M pay. On a total budget of $40, he took 17% 👍 that worked out to a little over $100M
Greetings from Finland man!!! Cannot wait to see your reaction to Die hard 2 witch is directed by Renny Harlin and he's from Finland 2!!! "I'll be back" 😎
IMO Die Hard not only happens on Christmas, but it does have a classic Christmas theme. John learns throughout the course of the movie that the only really important thing in life is his family and he's been stubborn, stupid and selfish for no real reason, and they reconcile. Granted, most Christmas movies don't have the main character come to this realization through a hostage situation with international terrorists, but the message is still valid. Bonus Christmas movie trope: Mom and Dad are held up by work, but miraculously manage to do the impossible and make it home for Christmas with the kids.
The debate as to whether or not this movie and Lethal Weapon are Christmas movie cracks me up - I agree it is definitely a Christmas movie. :) These are great action flicks and can’t wait to see your reaction to the second one
This is such a great movie. I saw an advent calendar this year that was Hans falling down the tower day by day until it got to Christmas. It’s sad what’s happening to Bruce Willis. In my opinion it’s worse than dying cause you’re slowly losing who you are. They were working on another Die Hard movie that was a prequel to this one. Think they’re having to rewrite it cause Bruce Willis was supposed to be a part of it.
Didja notice the window broke a 2nd time when the rocket launcher sent its 2nd round? Hadn't the window been shattered with the 1st rocket launch? I think John will "give a shit about glass" in a few moments. My fav D.H. movie is "Live Free or Die Hard" with Timothy Olyphant and Justin Long even tho I'm a technophobe. Glad your good work has been recognized by other reaction watchers; congratulations! You say, "John, you've got some anger issues." John says, "My captain back in NYC tells me the same thing."

Great reaction, thank you for sharing it with us. I don’t know if you’ve gotten the chance to watch Alan Rickman in the Harry Potter movies but I definitely recommend them.

Yep us men suffer from the double whammy. If we got a great job that we've always wanted our whole lives but our wife loves the simple job that she has and she don't want to give it up we are jerks if we get upset that she don't want to move and we're the bad guys. On the other hand if our wife's get their dream job but we like our job and want to stay where we are we're jerks if we don't move with her so she can have her dream we can't have ours but we have to let them have theirs we lose either way
Well, they did have to plan the whole thing well in advance, and they needed it to be at a time when there would be lots of people there to use as hostages, and Mr. Takagi, and it had to be after hours, at a time the building had less security and was mostly empty. A Christmas party is an event they could count on that would fit those requirements. And it was a plausible excuse for John to have come to visit. It's less likely that John would've travelled all the way from NY to LA for any old random function his wife's company may have had. I mean they could've concocted some other scenario as to why John happened to be there, but the Christmas angle is very plausible. And if it had been at some other random time of year, there would've been no reason for some of the movie's most iconic lines. We wouldn't have got to hear Alan Rickman say "Ho....Ho....Ho", that *alone* is enough reason that this movie had to take place at Christmas!
Is this a Christmas movie? Is it not a Christmas movie? The real answer is: nobody cares. The people pretending like they have a passionate and well-thought out opinion about this are really, really desperate to be hip, funny, cool, topical, interesting, irreverent, subversive, or something..... or they are the type of mindless sheep who endlessly repeat whatever meme is trending this year. Probably could not get enough Chuck Norris jokes back around 2005-2006.
I do not believe that diehard is a Christmas movie. I consider it an action movie that takes place at Christmas to me. A Christmas movie is a movie that represents the spirit of Christmas. I don’t think that movie does this.
Why are you on top of all the sequels except American Pie???? What gives??? That's not nice! Edit: Oh I see this is a lame re-release. Still, where's the American Pie sequels????????? Maybe upload a new American Pie reaction instead of a lame re-release that wastes our time.

At the end of the comedy roast of Bruce Willis, he says “Die Hard is not a Christmas Movie”. Lol
So glad you did this movie. Personally for me it’s not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls off the Nagatomi building 🤣

Yup, this was professor Snape’s first movie role. He did a few TV gigs before this. He definitely has a distinctive memorable voice.
pretty cool that he did the drop himself, not a stunt guy for the fall!60-70 feet, and he even wasnt a stunt guy either!

Die hard isn't just a Christmas movie it's a Christmas classic
There are two types of people, those who think Die Hard is a Christmas movie, and those who are wrong.
