      @Bass Player gta is an open world where you can avoid pulling off mass shootings in the streets with over the top exploding cars and the police and army swarming within minutes, where you shoot helicopters out of the sky and blow up tanks. Also, GTA was also filled with humour and doesn’t take itself too seriously
      No Russian on the other hand puts you in a linear situation, where yes, you don’t have to shoot, but at the very least you have to sit through a mass shooting through a tight environment of an airport in first person which made it much more ‘intimate’. It also carried strong undertones of political terrorism, which quite simply wasn’t really seen before in a videogame in such a manner
      I too was unaware of the news at the time of playing. When I played it for the first time, I was confused at first, then it turned to shock when you realised what was happening, but by the end of the level (great plot/level twist) I was like fuck yeah that was awesome!! But also knew at that moment it was going to be a controversial moment particularly if you were Russian 😅 gta, never leaves you feeling those emotions

    • @torgranael
      @torgranael ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And to think we've basically got the same thing happening again. There's some SWAT game being developed where one of the levels was defusing a school shooting. Of course that obviously means promoting school shootings and was labelled a Columbine Simulator. I can't remember what happened to it. It either got blocked in most of the world, or Steam refused to host it so they pulled the plug.

    • @aaronfisher6366
      @aaronfisher6366 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Also knew nothing of the controversy when I played it for the first time. And yea for sure never forgetting that moment and the following day when I talked about it with my friends and was asked “so did you go along with it or did you just walk through and not shoot anyone?” And boy the GUILT I felt finding out you could choose NOT to do it and still finish the mission 😂.

      That game is /seriously/ forgotten,these days & doesn't deserve to be...
      Shame we never got another Punisher game or even an HD-re-master. Which,I would GLADLY accept over a new game,actually...
      I would think it would be the EASIEST game to make modern! It's the most-basic concept in gaming,"guy w/ guns/other weapons,gets revenge by killing the bad guys". Seriously,it must be stupid licensing-reasons holding it up. Otherwise,WTF is keeping it from coming-back??
      Anyways,glad U brought it up. "Spezial Interrogations" was 1 of the 1st YT-vids of the game I ever saw & I remember it showing EVERY kill,w/ a heavy/industrial metal song,playing in the BG(it was "hardcore",for early YT)...
      It was probably 1 of the 1st vids posted about that game,in general & I always recall that awesome vid(helps I saved it & watched last year at some point). Sadly,it was only in StandardDef,like 480p. & looks nearly to be rendered in pixels! Also,unfortunately,I'm pretty-sure it's long gone,by now. But,if it came-back,maybe it could be up-scaled somehow,using modern-tech??
      Anyway,just bringing it up,in case any1 else recalls the vid/uploader of it. Or,has a better-copy,that could be posted,someday... ;)

    Postal 2 at the time was definitely not 'boring'. It was quite fun and the multiplayer was ok too. It should be higher though on the list. It was way more gruesome than most games on the list. You could light people on fire, then piss them out while they're entire skin would be fire wounds. They'd be crawling away on the floor until they passed out and died. It was banned in my country, Netherlands, which made a lot of sense.

After trading off my copy of manhunt for some money one week, (with full intention of buying back the next week), I was recasted to find they took it from the shelves before I could get it back. I remember that game fondly, but everytime I see footage of it now I can’t believe how polygoned it looks, I remember it looking so cool. So it’s probably for the best I can’t play it anymore and not ruin the memory. Haha.

    • @Hr1s7i
      @Hr1s7i ปีที่แล้ว

      It's normal to discover that old games look like crap. Your brain doesn't really "remember" the past, it keeps a mathematical construct of it. So when it reconstructs, it uses whatever remains from back then - positions of people, general clothing, etc. An example - if you try to remember how the soldiers in Prototype look, you would almost certainly remember them with the wrong uniform, as your brain will just toss in the best thing it can come up with to fill in the natural gaps in the memory. Those are always there, as the brain tosses away uninteresting things like small details that are not pivotal to the memory. You can remember the soldiers using M4, but which M4 model from all the games you've seen it would be? Noone knows.
      It's kinda fun, as it points out just how little we actually care about the graphics in the long run.

    What bugs me the most is that here in Germany, if there's a controversial game, they sometimes release a special "low violence" version of it. And that's it. No, you do not get to choose. No, there are not two versions of the game - one for under and one for over 18. So they basically cut my right to play the game as intended because of "youth protection".... silly enough: they sometimes slap an "USK ab 18" (Germanys version of the M rating) on it anyways. It just defies logic.

    • @verrueckteriwan
      @verrueckteriwan ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not only controversial games, but games "someone" saw inappropriate for... , well, german adults? Even games like Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor, or even Team Fortress 2 had cut german versions, Call of Duty: world at war was missing the whole zombie mode in the german version, Dead Island and Dying light couldnt be bought in Germany, same goes for Dead Rising.
      the worst part is: these were the "good old days", now you cant even view or buy the "controversial" games anymore, if you look at steam you cant even view "adult" games on steam, but ads for gambling sites that are for 18+ only can run all day in TV.
      I really hate the hypocrisy here in germany...

      Whenever I'm in a mood like that, I go for Audiosurf. Recent gems include Dorfromantik & Cloud Gardens (by the same developer). If you can't sleep, try Mountain (not much in the way of gameplay going on there) or Flower. The old Simcity games could be pretty soothing. What Remains of Edith Finch is awesome for its atmosphere & story. Blind Eyes is intriguing and well presented, but not for everybody.

The game trusts players to have a tolerant mindset for its commentary on some of society's most despicable man-made horrors. The series deserves a comeback.

      Thumbs-up! U said it PERFECTLY! I rarely have so little to say,but U echoed my sentiments /exactly/! :D
      More than any other series(besides SilentHill, R.I.P.),this series deserves another release. Or,at the very least,re-masters w/ just better graphics & maybe,if possible,a blur-less ver. of MH2(I wish)...
      The only other thing to say,is that the "film grain" effect should,at the very least,remain an OPTION for those wanting it. And,even an option to play w/ the original graphics,switch-able,on-the-fly,like was done for HALO Legendary edition,would be /really/ nice... ;)
      In any case,the series should NOT be left gathering dust,like it is. Such a shame. But,given the way the gaming industry treats such adult subjects/concepts,I'm not really /that/ surprised nothing has been done,so far... : /
      -Peace

    Manhunt was definitely disturbed but one of the best of its time for its stealth mechanics.

    One of the very first games I got on PC back in the 90's was Carmageddon. I'm surprised it's not mentionned on this list.

    The Manhunt murder case was actually pretty ironic, since the copy of Manhunt wasn't the murderer, but the victim's...

    Manhunt. This was a masterpiece.
    Obviously, the game was pointed at, it's always the case. They blamed Marilyn Manson for Columbine, they blamed Scream because a guy killed his parents.

    Lucky for me: my parents didn't know anything about games.
    Lucky for my son: I know everything about games.

    Loved Manhunt. You'd think a game like that would be garbage but the gameplay was surprisingly solid for the time.

    Conker's remains relatively unknown to many, and while I haven't experienced Bad Fur Day, I did play Live & Reloaded probably about 20 years ago on the Xbox. It showcased impressive remastering ahead of its time, and the multiplayer aspect was so enjoyable. I've accepted the series fading away, I prefer it to be remembered and valued, rather than becoming a fragmented echo of its former self like Halo.

    I miss when games were allowed to be sexy and fun. Anyone remember the "Outlaw" golf and volleyball series? I loved those games! So fun!
