hi Bea, i've been trying to learn Brazilian Portuguese on a site claiming to be the best way to learn a language...but without your precious explanations, i'd be completely lost. for instance, among other "failures" (as far as i'm concerned) the site doesn't bother explaining the difference between que and quê, indeed! many thanks to you!

I have a question regarding the pronunciation of the word "que." When I hear the word "que" being used by Brazilian Portuguese speakers sometimes it sounds like the word "kay" and other times it sounds like "key." Is there a reason for there being two different ways to pronounce the the word "que"? Are there specific rules that determine which pronunciation to use? Thank you.

Oi, Heidi! It can be rude if you put too much stress on the word 'quê'.
'Você disse o QUÊ?' - sounds rude or as if you can't believe your ears.
I hate Brazilian Portuguese! Will never learn it! Lol
