Hi! I'm from Brazil. I migrated a few days ago from Ubuntu 22.04 to the Arch Linux Gui you created. I'm using it right now, all customized. It is sad that the project has been discontinued, as it makes it much easier for people to enter the linux world. But you're a genius and I know you'll come through. Thank you for making this project available for free.
Thank you so very much for you amazing and hard work. It is because of ALG that I was able to switch to Arch Linux and I am extremely grateful for you helping me to do that. Even the help on discord was better than I had received anywhere else. Best of luck for the future. Enjoy life. Again thank you so very much for all you have done.
Hey DemonKiller. Its sad seeing that great project reach the end of it's lifecycle but I understand your reasons. Take some personal time. Mental health is important. You have done tremendous work to help new users explore arch linux. Maybe in the future you can continue this project (change the name and maybe provide just a couple DE like vanilla KDE and vanilla GNOME so the maintenance is easier). My best wishes and have a nice day.
From Belgium, thank you for your hard work with ALG, i use it from day 1 and still using it as long as possible. thanks for the github too, you're a good person. enjoy life
Hi, we all know how Arch community is hostile and it often violates the spirit of open source. So existence of project like ALG challenges that. I am not a lawyer, but probably it will be possible to keep this project going by renaming it to "ALG" itself (without any full-form expansion) I sincerely hope there will be someone in this small community to help you with legal issues. But none of us want this project to just die off. Before deleting it's contents, or making the repo private, let us clone the sources, so that we can start it fresh, without any reference to Arch trademark but with proper GPL/BSD and other respective attribution. One more thing... YOU MADE A WORKING GUI FOR ARCH, what they failed to do. And no matter what anyone else says, IT WAS A MISSING FEATURE, a problem, that you solved
This has nothing to do with the spirit of open source: GPL, the godfather of open source licenses, requires that modified redistributions have a different name than the original in order to protect the original devs from bug reports that have nothing to do with them. The problem is that "Arch Linux GUI" sounds like an official product by the arch community which users can complain about on the arch forum if something doesn't work, distracting and confusing devs and community members. It's not a problem that DemonKiller made a GUI installer for arch linux, but they should've named it differently to make it obvious that this is a hobby project which is not affiliated with arch linux in any way.
@@xrenynthemusicmage6422 Fair points, but open source communities isn't supposed work fully as corporate. Instead of forcing it to shut down, they could have made the GUI a part of the official arch distribution. Yes, contract agreements such as GPL should be respected to the letter but we can't move past the fact that open source is born out of a need, love and passion of many and ALG is also a fruit of that tree. ALG is dead now, and Arch killed it without making their own GUI, hence keeping the problem. Go beyond legalese and tell me how fair is that.
@@Sandeepan I think you're right in that regard, it really is a shame to see AGL turn to dust without an official replacement over nothing less than a branding dipute.
I just made a video on your project without knowing it was discontinued. I'm not a programmer but I wish it was something I could do to help you keep it alive. Thanks for the time you spent working on this project. I would've definitely pushed this on my channel. I'll still release the video tomorrow.
Thanks alot for the video. I am going to be doing videos on how people can build their own ISOs for themselves. People will still be able to use the current ISOs and/or build their own ISOs in the future :)
greetings from mexico, I migrated from ubuntu to arch linux thanks to your distro and I have nothing more to thank for this enormous effort, I hope everything turns out as you wish and once again thank you very much for your contribution, you are a genius.
I'm sad to see it go, but I greatly appreciate the work you've put into it throughout its lifespan!! I've been using ALG for over a year now, I switched from Garuda when I was having some issues with it and ALG worked perfectly! Thank you again for the hard work.
It is unfortunate that a project that only collaborates without any commercial purpose has been interrupted by pettiness. But thank you very much, it was very useful for me. You demonstrates be are a good entrepreneur, better luck awaits you in future projects
Thank you for your awesome work. I always recommended your ISOs to people that wanted to try Arch. Sad to see it coming to an end, but at the same time looking foward to what you will do with the channel. Thank you for all your hard work!
Hi DemonKiller. We all love your excellent job with ALG. I've been using it for over a year now, and I'm impressed how fast ALG Plasma version runs on my machines and how well it works. We wish you the best, and would be very happy if you could work on another Linux project as amazing as ALG. It would be a pleasant surprise. Think about it, but take care of yourself and do what makes you happy!
I think this exact thing happened to Arco linux a couple of years back (it used to be called "Arch Merger" if i recall correctly). Haters gonna hate, don't let them get to you. Hope you find and bring much joy with your next project!
Demonkiller, I really believe you should continue your project as a derived Arch distro, because what you did so far was incredible. Don't push yourself too much though, your well being is more important. Congratulations!
This is a shame, thanks for your work. Understandable, projects can't last forever. EDIT: watched the video, it must have been a lot of hassle, thanks everything.
Managed to install it last week, all i had to do was execute "sudo pacman -S archlinux-keyring" before trying to update, then it works completely fine. Thanks for everything!
Sad to see the project go. I've never managed to install arch the "arch way" but my first experience was manjaro, which broke immediately. The next best thing I started searching for installers for arch, and came across this one. It actually worked and its because of your project i can tinker with arch on my poor internet connection here (which can leave installing arch to take hours). Hope you continue to find success in your future endeavors.
Hi, friend! Your project is the best! I'm sorry you stopped it. You did a very good job. Modern methods of installing ArchLinux are worse. Even Archinstall.
It is a huge great sadness that toxic people win. A child claim what they do on the graphical installer. ALG is not just that, it is an extraordinary work, thrown away. We are very sorry for this decision.
Installing arch linux for me has been a bit of struggle since I had to type every command by myself, decide what to install what not. When I found out that ALG exists, I used it, it is a nice project.
Hi, Demonkiller, I'm from Brazil and I want to thank you for The great work. Hope you come back soom with New great contributions for The opensource wolrd.
How sad it is to hear, honestly. Although I don’t have problems installing archinstall, it’s much more pleasant to work with GUI, I hope you will come back. With love from Russia
It is very complicated when the Linux community itself does not help itself, it is for these types of users that Linux is not popular yet, this toxicity is very embarrassing, I wish you good luck and success from now on.

This project was the reason I was able to start with Arch Linux after frustration with barebones console installation with all the choices given that made my head spin.

Open source with trademark is a very inconsistent thing. In my view, this appeal to the threat of power only shows the insecurity and incompetence of the Arch administrator, as desmonstrate he does not trust his own open methods of verification and authentication, disregards the intelligence and ability to choose from Arch users, and thus scares away community collaboration.

I propose that we choose a new name for the distro, and that we all choose the most appropriate for it.
Mil gracias por brindarnos un gran proyecto, en realidad es muy triste que este proyecto desaparezca, lamentable y triste.

Shame you had to end the project. I wish you all the best with RebornOS.
Sorry to see you go the effort is much appreciated and you show that is is possible to install Arch with gui.
Sad news.. IMO best and easiest arch installer in 2022.. Take care and thank you..
I think this exact thing happened to Arco linux a couple of years back (it used to be called "Arch Merger" if i recall correctly). Haters gonna hate, don't let them get to you. Hope you find and bring much joy with your next project!
correct but Arco is ok ...

Thanks for you project. I switched to Arch from these ISOs. May be you can teach us how to build the ISOs.
thank you for all !!
Thank you very much for your hard work!!! I hope you can continue this project (albeit with another name) somewhere in the future.
This is very sad. I very much enjoyed ALG. You used all the programs I used too. Looking forward to see your next project :)!
