And I, as a listener, am glad. Also, the highest compliment you can pay a performer in Russia is to listen intently through the whole performance rather than to show visible or audible approval.

Your pronunciations are correct. I pronounce her name AnkudiNOVA like you but it could also be AnkuDINova. I'm sure she would answer to either one. Her back story is quite horrific. She was sent to a Catholic orphanage when she was 3 years old b/c her mother abused her. As a result of the abuse, she could not speak for a long time. One of the Sisters started working with her and taught her to sing which led to her having a speaking voice. How she developed the Contralto voice she has now I don't know. It is very unusual for women to sing what amounts to a male Tenor. Cher and that New Zealand girl Toni are two that I can recall. As you can hear, Diana can sing even lower than that.
