Nice video Sebby! Kit Kat bars make it worth the upgrade haha. One thing I’ve also noticed if you have status and book through third parties (expedia, Priceline etc) depending on the hotel and the front desk, they may still upgrade your room if you show them your status with the hotel. I’ve had some luck with Marriott and Hilton hotels if the room was significantly cheaper through third parties.
If I’m going to ask for an upgrade I do dress nice and smile and leave the family in the car and for whatever reason that seems to work very very well. It certainly helps to stay at hotels that actually have the upgrades available which some people may not realize. Some Hilton lines have 6,7 and eight levels of room statuses - helping chances.

Sebby, I went to taiwan last month and bought the room through the marriot bonvoy app. I have an Amex Platinum card so that makes me a Gold member. I got to the front desk and asked for an upgrade but ended up paying $60 for an upgrade to an executive suite. was I suppose to pay or is it suppose to be free?
I'm thinking it might work more internationally I've had Platnium Elite and Spire Elite Status off and on never less than Platnium with IHG since 2006 and have rarely gotten upgrades in the US but a few times and another negative thing is at most regular Holiday Inn's I've stayed at in the US Platnium Elite and Spire Elite doesn't get complementary breakfast like with Hilton and Marriott similar statuses
IHG doesn’t reward breakfast with status, it’s linked to the rate of the room you book first. That being said the points strategy you can build makes up for no breakfast on some occasions (especially if travelling for work as it’s gonna be expensed anyway.) As for upgrades ive got 100% upgrade for the last 8 years being plat or spire on and off whatever country, state or canadian province ive been to.
I would not reccomend showing the Front Desk person what's avail on your app. I've been managing hotels for 14 years now and I know staff do not like this especially if the system is slow updating inventory. Easiest way for an upgraded is calling before you arrive or at minimum as soon as you make it into the hotel. You can even just put a note on your reservation when made. But just call dont show anything on phone.

Hey Sebby I have a question: I was targeted for the Amex Plat 100k offer in the mail 3 times, but I currently want to take advantage of the new Amex Hilton card offer. If I get the Hilton card first, would I still be able to get the Amex Plat 100k offer later in the future (like a year from now)? Or would I have to get the Amex Plat before I get any other Amex cards in order to get the 100k points? Hope to hear back from you. Thanks.

With Hilton Gold through AMEX platinum I’ve been upgraded every time, but half the time I have to ask.

Nope, I rarely get upgrades at Hyatt w/ Globalist status.

Upgrades generally relate to the status you have with the hotel group. Amex Gold does not give you hotel status.
What level of status at Marriott do you have to be to ask for an upgrade? Can I still ask for a free upgrade if I booked my stays through the points?
I would try and email the hotel to request for a upgrade before arriving a day or two before. Any suggestions?

Leilane Teles Nunes it is a free upgrade. One of the perks of the status is that when higher level rooms are available you should get bumped up.
