    All the answers are so on point! Thank you for sharing!
    And I love your (new) take on the question "do you need a partner to become a better DANCER", I can relate to that answer the most

    Thanks for all your fantastics videos. It's always so clear. And what I like the most is that, even you're very talented and confident, you still have a big humility, which might be the best quality to have combined with your talent.
    Continue to do it, you're great!! :D

    Hi Laura,
    Maybe you could make a video sometime telling us about your development as a jazz dancer.
    - Did you start early, like when you took your first steps?
    - Did you go straight into jazz dance, or did you start off with ballet or something like that?
    - Did you major in dance at the university? If so, where? Did you like it?
    - Do you teach dance? It looks like maybe you’re with students in some of your Solo Jazz Warmup vids.
    - How long have you been movin and groovin to the Brooks Prumo Orchestra? (they’re REALLY good!)
    - How did you end up in San Antonio? What’s the dance scene like there?
    - Tell us about a time when you had a big dance break-through?
    - Do you think your development was similar to most other dancers of your level?
    - Are you interested in the life of Malcolm X? (who for a time was a big Lindy hopper)
    - Have you ever been to the Rock That Swing Festival over in Munich, Germany? I watch a lot of their videos here in Spain where I live.
    - Where do you think you’ll be in five and ten years’ time dance-wise?
    Thanks for all your videos.

    Hey Laura, thanks again for mentioning the issue about the lack of diversity in the Lindy Hop scene.
    Maybe you remember me commenting on your video of Black history month 2020 but after that I deleted my comment 🙈. So as for an example, in Germany in the Salsa dancing events, its very diverse and not even predominantly Latin all the time. People ask me to dance and I never felt that I didn't belong there.
    But I have to say, Lindy Hop and Jazz, really attracts the white folks 🙈
    I'm partially complaining because when I was at a social dancing, I really felt lost. And the people do not ask me to dance with them. I once asked a man to dance with me and he didn't want to dance. He said he watched me dancing and I would dance a different style, so we wouldn't match!...
    Edit: He saw me dancing with my female friend who happened to be the leader.
    So I'd say this issue is obvious and existing because they asked my female white friend to dance at the same event. So yes, it's very frustrating. From now on I won't go to a social dance without a permanent dancing partner or I have to ask someone who knows me from dancing classes.
    BTW, please keep up with your helpful and very enjoyable videos! ❤️ 😊😊😊

      Hi there! I find your remark about not being asked to dance at Lindy Hop events interesting. Someone else (who was a person of color) complained about this as well. However, I truly don't think that is the reason - I take from one of your comments that you live in Germany, well I live in Italy and have the same problem 😞. But the interesting thing is that I am not the only one! Women much younger than me and certainly more beautiful complain of the same thing!!! Luckily when I began to dance a friend of mine 'forced' me to ask the men, including international dance instructors (and believe me, this was hard for me to do!! I am terribly shy 😬) to dance and low and behold 😁 I usually end up dancing all night 😀. And, yeah I have gotten a few nos but more yeses than nos, so go out there and ASK!! I doubt it's a 'color' thing - I don't have light skin and I am probably older than you - most guys would prefer to dance with some young 🐥 I can see it in their faces... but I am happy to report that at the end of the dance they've got a smile from ear to ear 😁. Go on keep trying 😉!

      @@milliemouse6525 Hi thanks for your comment. Well, as I said I'd better go to swing social dancing with dancers I already know.
      In the other hand, today many people of colour, what I observe, rather enjoy the Latin dancing and and rap music and the younger ones do not know much of their music history starting in the early 1920s. So I don't blame nobody. It is how it is. And I'm glad that Europeans and white Americans teach the Lindy Hop and made it actually big and well known to the world. Without them I wouldn't dance lindy hop today.
      Have a great day. 🙂

      @@satchelmouth1 you're right. The fact is there aren't many dancers of color (at least in Europe - I've danced all over pre-Covid ) on the swing dance floor and I think that's their choice. I dance with everyone. Btw, don't know if you've noticed but there are lots of Asians dancers (again i'm speaking of europe especially at international festivals) as well and they're amazing 😁! So in conclusion, keep that swing and dance, dance, dance as much as you can!

      I'm so sorry that the Lindy Hop community feels so alienating. It's so wrong! I want so much for people to embrace the "let loose and dance." It is not about technical perfection. Even if someone will truly "dance a different style" they still dance! So dances with them! Lindy Hop should be home. ESPECIALLY for African diasporic people.

    Haha, I guess it was not a good way to phrase the question. I've seen you dance in heels, flats, sneakers, shoes that look slidey, shoes that look sticky, cowboy boots, and even bedroom slippers. How you do this is mysterious to me. 🤣 Maybe you are so experienced by this point you just dance in whatever is to hand and don't even think about it? Do you have favourite dancing shoes?

    • @LauraGlaess
      @LauraGlaess  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh man, I'm sorry I misunderstood and minimized your question! Honestly, I will say - the way you look dancing and they way you feel dancing can be really different. If I'm in heels or shoes that are too slidey / to sticky - I just don't feel as graceful! And I feel limited. Like I don't have access to my imagination in the same way because too much of it is trying to keep me upright and on beat, you know?
      However, I do think it's super helpful to get out of your comfort zone. Slidey shoes make you work on totally different vibes. Sticky shoes make me really have to punctuate rhythms and be more nimble. Heels make me want to experiment with a chorus girl kinda vibe and swing my hips around more.
      Honestly, my favorite dance shoes are probably going to depend on the floor - which is such an unsatisfying answer, I know! I like a certain amount of friction, but not too much. IN GENERAL, I put suede leather on the bottom of all my shoes and that works well almost every time. It's my go to.

    • @PeppermintTaste
      @PeppermintTaste 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LauraGlaess Not at all, thanks for the longer explanation. I also love flat shoes with suede on the bottom. Validation! :D But I may have to experiment with some stickier shoes and see what happens!
