Thanks, as part of a main service, I had a local garage try and quote me $1700 to do this - WAAAAAAAT? I had seen your video before, thanks for allowing me to be informed, and of course I am going to this myself.
So happy to help! I still get amazed hearing stories like this, but you're not the only one. It's far too common where people get taken advantage of by shops.
The cabin filter does have a few purposes. The main one being to keep dust, pollen, or any other debris out of the interior of the vehicle, works great especially if you have allergies. Depending on where it's positioned in the vehicle, it also keeps dirt out of the blower motor which can affect its life, as well as debris out of the ducting and heater core or evaporator coil. This also reduces the amount of dust entering the interior too.
Hi Robert..I want to buy an older Volvo wagon as I enjoy your videos which help me greatly. I'm handy I have my eye on a 98 v70xc non turbo.4wd. perfect running condition another 1996 850 turbo wagon fwd lots of receipts ,timing belt done, heater core,New tires full tune up & a 01 v70. 4wd. needs coolant container. runs great... any suggestions..which one? all in descent shape, same price
+Gregory Fitzgerald I believe you have me confused with someone else but I'd be happy to give you my input on the purchase. Engines are very similar overall between all vehicles, 2001 I believe has an electronic throttle control modules which do fail and can be costly to repair. Being that the two cars are awd, be sure all tires are the exact same which regards to makes and size. If not, this can damage the awd system. Personally I find locally the early Cross Country models do not bring that much value where I am located and are very hard to sell. Early 2000 models also were known to have issues with the awd system, 2004 and newer cars were fine. Even though the 1996 is the oldest, it would probably be the most reliable and being that it's had some bigger ticket items replaced (timing belt, tires, etc), along with all the maintenance records, it seems to be a car that was well taken care of.
+Gregory Fitzgerald I also forgot to mention the Volvo shown in my older videos is a 1996 850 estate turbo. I didn't have the car for as long as I'd hoped to (ended up buying a car I had been searching years for), but overall it was an excellent car. Mine had 200,000km when I purchased it, needed the alternator replaced, along with the blower motor, resistor block, and camshaft sensor. Other than that, everything else was basic maintenance and I would definitely get into another one if I had the opportunity.
Thanks. Yes I did have you confused with someone else but I did respond to him also..& he did say to get the 96 fwd turbo which I have my eye on one that no one buying & it is sweet..brand new tires, full tune up,heater core lots of other receipts..Plus the roof rack cross bars on it..even no check engine light...I'm not sure if I'm going to look at it. & he asked 1,500 then went to 1,300 & I talked him down to 1,000. If I do look at it I will check the pcv system or a rear end seal leak...
But I forgot...I like this Volvo wagon v70xc cross country non turbo but this car is in perfect condition...AWD....I saw a u tube video & test drive about them in a snow storm & that car must be so fun to drive, super comfortable,& safe...it's newer. & this cars 10 years old & it's brand new...blue exterior without a Mark..even the inside..he wanted 3,500 but he took 3,000...
The year on it is 2005 tan interior blue outside.. brand new tires also..all 4 the same. See when you look at cars you get confused... This cars newer...1 owner so he bought it new & now in 10 years I may scoop it up.
Thank you everyone for the compliments and support!!! Don't forget to like my video and subscribe to my channel. Also please follow me over on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and Pinterest.

+anna-karin Bengtson I believe 1993 and 1994 did not come with the cabin filter option.
Good informative video for a 96 Volvo 850. Thank you.
Hi I am new to all of this, but I just purchased a 1997 volva 850. What is the purpose of a cabin filter?
Thanks, I gotta go in there and clean, it rains now and when I start up the blower I hear water sloshing.

Does this concern a 850-GLT 1997 with ac?
Yes it should be the same.
Dear Sir, do you have a video replacing a air filter in a 960 volvo 96?
As far as I know, the 960 is not equipped with a cabin filter.
Newbee here... Does a Volvo 850 from 1993 have a cabin filter or not?
