    @mrbeigan Thanks, that's good to hear because I'm playing it with more of a backbeat than the original. Check out the collaboration with a friend from Russia, he's very good. He also plays drums, don't know why he asked me to play on it. There's a link to it. Thanks again.

    I appreciate your suggestion and your English is fine. Actually I have a lot of subscribers and viewers from Latin American, particularly Argentina and Brazil, also many in Spain and Mexico. I want to cover some music from Spain. Mainly I cover music I grew up with and continually hear and that's enough to keep me busy. I've only been covering for over 2 years so there's a lot more, God willing, to cover. Check out my other covers from Santana such as Guajira. Gracias!

    Great cover for a great song. You are really good, I've watched plenty of your videos and you are really good. I was wondering if you could ever cover Santana's song "Soul Sacrifice" Thats my favourite song of him, and I think it's pretty difficult to do a drum cover of that song, but I think you're good enough to do it perfectly. :) Never stop uploading videos please, you inspire me to continue my drum lessons :D

    Well that's one of the purposes of my channel is to expose music to people who may not be familiar with it as well share to those who do know it the drumming patterns of that music. I can only play from the heart and the only way to do that is to play the music I grew up with and that moves and inspires me. Thanks for your suggestions, I'll check out those bands you listed on iTunes and if something moves me, I will certainly cover it.

    "Guajira" is a complete reference to what would be Cuban country folks. As a funny note. Guajiros (or in Cuba "country folks") Came after the Spanish American war where the USA (with the help of the Cubans) kicked Spain asses. The USA gave top cuban soldiers "War Hero" medals and when they returnned to the country side they were called "war heros" but the accent turned "war hero" into "gua-jiro" the phonetic sound of war hero to a Cuban. Bit of history for ya!

  • @mickavellian
    @mickavellian 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    VAYA ! se la comio ... LOL
    I am Cuban so I was born listening to this. Really difficult to play drums to Mambo (which it is what this is) and the Timbale, claves, guiro, cowbell sync is a bitch . GREAT JOB !

    Para comenzar la cancion es un ritmo CHA CHA CHA, original de Tito coca Puente, el wey en el video la esta tocando como ritmo Rock & Roll. Nada que ver con la cancion. Sonaria mucho mejor con Cencerro y Timbales

      The music of Carlos Santana is a hybrid of many genres such as salsa and rock. It’s not pure salsa music. I’m from that area of San Francisco, the Mission District, where this music originated and even got to jam with some of the musicians from Santana. I also got to play for a number of years with musicians from Latin America.

  • @DavidJones-xv4qs
    @DavidJones-xv4qs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool but wrong kick pattern, it's not a slow Samba with a double kick throughout. The bass line is syncopated with the drums (Conga/Guiro groove) letting the song breathe, unlike this cover.

    • @rhythmantic
      @rhythmantic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I played the kick very similar to how it's played in any of the live recordings I've heard, which is "and-one" "and-three" with a syncopated variation here and there. Thanks for checking out the cover.

    • @DavidJones-xv4qs
      @DavidJones-xv4qs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the response. Sure this will work (it's Latin so it fits) like a 2/3 or 3/2 clave with Samba kick pattern which also works. Often the live version differs to studio. But studio version definitely isn't a Samba pattern. Just depends on how you want the song to groove. Personally I'd play a hybrid of the two kick patterns in an ostinato which allows the song to breathe/ebb & flow, giving it way more musicality than either pattern played in isolation.

    • @rhythmantic
      @rhythmantic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Music is a form of self expression, no two drummers are going to play the same song the same way. There is more than just one way to interpret a song's rhythmic structure. Just because it's on the recording doesn't mean it's the only way or even the best way. I would like to hear your cover of this tune to hear what your expression of it. So if you do one and upload it, let me know. Thank you for taking the time to comment on and view the video.

    • @DavidJones-xv4qs
      @DavidJones-xv4qs 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure thing. Always good to talk about grooves with a fellow drummer. It all comes down to feel & technical ability (for me anyhow) with the latter allowing me to play the former. It's all personal interpretation in the end which is why we are all unique. I watched a Rodriguez (Cold Fact) gig in Cape Town a few years back and he had two drummers on stage. Both played fairly different grooves throughout the same song (I was watching them closely) yet both interpretations worked very well without decimating the musicality. I don't upload but would [without a percussionist] play a Conga/Guiro groove on the hat ("4- & -1" and "2- & -3") with my foot only (yes, this is possible if you are extremely dexterous!) freeing up my right hand to play 8th notes on the ride/bell or use a shaker to get a 16th note effect with a hybrid kick pattern as discussed above. Check th-cam.com/video/s2NpYW2FZGU/w-d-xo.html for the possibilities (this guy is brilliant).

    • @rhythmantic
      @rhythmantic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Jones
      You got to witness this principle played out by two different drummers playing the same song with two different drum patterns.
