It definitely happens, my brother was almost 90k and never even tried to pay it, my nephew had just turned 18 when my brother won a settlement and all of it was going to back child support, a bit close to the 90k, he called his my nephew's mom before he agreed to settle and tried to get her to drop child support and she refused and told him to go to hell, she bought my nephew a new car and paid his tuition, and put some aside. On the flip side, my cousin missed 2 months of child support that he'd never been late on, he thought his social security was paying it because he had complete renal failure, they hauled him into court and threatened to lock him up, but didn't because the dialysis would cost the state to much and both his social security and work disability would be cut off of he was arrested, it was such foolishness and social security did end up paying but it took another couple of months.
This kid is a lot stronger and braver than he knows he is.... I honestly don't know how I'd manage confronting a Dad that did me this amount of wrong. The plaintiff is exceptionally selfless and the defendant should be thankful. I wish the kid the best!

This is the absolute most patient. I have seen Judge Mathis with a man who has this level of child support debt. I really believe if this was a black man standing in front of him, he will have taken his head all the way off.
This case is eerily similar to mine,sadly. I had three kids with him, and when the 3rd baby was 2 months old he took off while I was at my parents house on the weekend.He sold all of my furniture, including our newborn son's crib set.Took the rent money and the money from selling our things and moved to Wisconsin. Got a woman pregnant there, left her. Moved to Indiana and was with someone else and had three with her. Left her, and moved back to Illinois and had two more with another woman. And those are just the ones I know about. Yet he still owes me 56,000 for my three and they are all now in their 30s. Shameful.

Child support is a court order. You are legally obligated to satisfy your financial responsibility. When you don't, you are in contempt of that court order meaning, you are willingly disobeying the authority. The consequence of disobeying is jail.. It no longer matters if you pay on it or not. You could decide to start paying on it tomorrow, you'll still serve a sentence for when you were in contempt. Pay your child support and you won't go to jail. ❤
