this was actually the best star wars movie disney had made so far!
Agreed - despite doing badly in theaters, Solo was good, but R1 is still way better - especially for old-school SW fans. It totally rivals Empire and that ending! I still get chills thinking about it.
I absolutely love Rogue One. I thought it was a brilliant mix of war story, adventure, and very sparing, well-timed humour.
Yes! A Star Wars film with the *grit of an actual war film.* Plus amazing cinematography and good casting/acting.
@praxecon2010 sounds like a mash up between star wars and moulin rouge
For all it's flaws, the cinematography in this film is amazing and probably the best of any of the franchise. I wish they released a longer cut with the scenes from the trailer though :(

@@georgeoldsterd8994 It's Gareth edward, he directed Monsters, Godzilla and rogue one. I believe he was originally a VFX artist. Rogue one is his last movie to date but his three movies have amazing cinematography.

It's also spelled Rouge as in 'Khmer Rouge'. I'm not quite sure what that means, just something I thought may be noteworthy.

Mc Mastermind007 I did, because it was a true Vader quip. I don’t know why people think Sith Lords are so uptight.
Hell, the Emperor makes quips too.
Have you watched a movie with Darth Vader in it, Strokerman01? The dude drops quips like that like running water, and those types of mannerisms are what made him iconic.
Oh I didn't say it was the only thing. Just among the types of mannerisms. Not just his look but his badass attitude made him one of the biggest bad guys of the century. Shoot, Skeletor would have pissed himself if he met Darth Vader. Dude can stop laser blasts with his hand like "bitch please" and then take your weapons away.
The hallway seeing made him look like a legitimate horror villain it was awesome
he isn't a horror villain though. You are just a pathetic manchild without any taste. That was the gayest scene ever put to film imo
I'm convinced that the Storm Troopers AREN'T wearing armor. It's just some kinda plasticware fashion trend. 😂
I know these was a joke but I'm going to say yes there armour are plastiware
Or it is a torture device - if you are hit somewhere, then it makes you feel pain like thrown into hot sulfuric acid - and maybe it even injects some poison into your body? Maybe that is the motivation for troopers to be a good soldier - because after being promoted, you can get rid of it and wear the uniform of the officers...
It's probably just a reinforced uniform, because like you said, that stuff does nothing but keep the dirt off your back.

the stormtrooper ranks got consistently worse as the empire got older, because more clones from the era of the republic died, and the clones were much better stormtroopers than regular humans. So, technically, the closer you get to the beginning of the empire, the better the stormtroopers overall should perform.

Although, I actually didn't care for the Last Jedi too much, so I'd probably join them.
You can have supplementary material to a film, but it shoulder _never_ be a requirement in order to make the film decent/good (or be required to understand it).
The Stars Wars media I personally liked -- the old EU books, comics and games -- I'd think about them from time to time, about how much I enjoyed it and eventually want to go back and experience them again. Why? Cause they had memorable characters, stories and ideas; they were well written; and they certainly weren't just glorified adverts for the new films (like a lot of the new canon stuff seems to be, unfortunately). In short, the content could stand on its own two feet, and didn't rely too heavily on nostalgia.
Rogue One? Saw it once, most likely won't watch it again. I liked this movie when I saw it, but I didn't remember anyone's name at the time, or after (except Jyn, and only because she was the main character). In my opinion it's boring and really forgettable. If Star Wars wasn't attached to it, I don't think anyone would give this movie a chance.
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.

Well, at least these characters [and plot] were honest about the Suicide plan. Wait, isn't this honest trailers? you should give them credit about that
Thing is, much as people hate on the prequels, Revenge actually explains the Episode 4 fight. For all his power and skill, Obi-Wan wrecked his s***, and left him with both legs and an arm cut off where he spontaneously combusted into flames, necessitating that suit. Sure, Obi-Wan is older, but last time he made the mistake of underestimating him/overestimating himself - It did not end well. And aside from tech limits, fight choreograph ability and Lucas at that time insistent on two handed use, You see him in the next two a bit more active and what we see here against Luke, where there are other things at play, and yeah, we see him wreck a bunch of foot soldiers with blasters that would ever stand a chance. Bunch of mooks with blasters, caution to the wind, jedi son, a bit of caution, especially on trying to turn him, the dude that left you with no original limbs and needing a robo-suit to survive - play that safe as all hell.
Also - thy need to integrate it better to the movies, but stormtroopers lack of accuracy has been explained in the original movies, in Rebels, and possibly in theories. Sure, Obi-Wan says "only imperial Stormtroopers are so precise", however, last I checked the last time he really encountered stormtroopers in a meaningful way was as the republic became the empire, and they were still Jango Fett clones, who have been shown to be fairly accurate and took down the Jedi. Which, if you go by that one theory thats circulated a while, it wasn't stormtroopers that killed the Jawa's and Luke's aunt and uncle but Boba Fett. By this point most are volunteers and conscripts that receive what training they need to function in a fight. And even before that line, Obi-Wan says to Luke when he give's him Anakin's lightsaber "It's not as clumsy or random as a blaster" - meaning that to some degree it is the weapons having some effect akin to old firearms that weren't fit right or rifled so the round was less accurate - possibly an issue caused by mass producing those weapons (smaller scale production weapons seem to be more accurate in the films). And Rebels takes it one step further, as Rex, now an old man but still a lethal Jango Fett clone, has to wear a newer storm trooper armour and helmet, and notes that, unlike the later clone war armour they wore, those helmets have poor visibility making it harder for him to even hit anything. So, if we take out the theory portion even, it makes complete sense that if they are being given weapons of lower accuracy ability with helmets that make it harder to see - it's amazing they even hit anything. Aside from random rebels in a small hallway.
Please say "Red lorry, yellow lorry, red lorry, yellow lorry, red lorry, yellow lorry, red lorry, yellow lorry, red lorry, yellow lorry, red lorry, yellow lorry".
So much better than the Abrams / Rian Johnson BS that we are getting at the moment. It feels like a Star Wars universe and there are not even any Sith or Jedi involved,,, A competent enemy, decent story and human characters you can relate to and the audience will be with you, always.

If George R.R. Martin had written it, it would have actually been good. Not that we would have ever known that because he'd still be working on it.
You guys didn't mention Bodhi in the entire trailer! Does no one care about him at all? You mention Saw Gerrera but not Bodhi? He's like so many people's favorite character!
MegaGem even disney doesnt care about him (which makes me sad because hes one of my favourite sw characters)
sivad parks without him there wouldn't even be a rogue one. Without Bodhi, the rebellion wouldn't have gotten the death star plans and they wouldn't have won in their fight against the empire. Without Bodhi the star wars continuity wouldn't be what it is. He is one of the most important characters in the SW universe.
First couple of months after TFA: This is such a great movie! Later: It's a rehash of a new hope, it's awful. First couple of months after Rogue One: This is such a great movie! Later: The characters were underdeveloped, it's awful. Notice a pattern?
to be fair TFA is a rehashed New Hope. Not saying it's not enjoyable and totally Star Wars, but it's still a rehash of A New Hope.
It makes perfect sense. First you are dazzled by the novelty and good aspects of the film....and then you think about and/or see it more times and notice the flaws. You realize it wasn't as good as you first thought.
I ENJOYED The Force Awakens but Rey is clearly a MaRey Sue and is a rehash of A New Hope. While Rogue One is clearly more competent because of scenes of Darth Vader!
when did they say this was awful? They seemed to say quite a lot of good things from what I heard.
I think the scene with the "i'm one with the force" actually gives back a little magic to the force, thing that the midiclorians took away from the first trilogy
Vader was still tired in A New Hope from kicking so much ass in the hallway scene.
Disney prolly gonna do a Spinoff explaining it...
No its because obi wan still had sand all over his robes
Btw don't get me wrong. I purely meant this as a joke. I actually still enjoy that scene (well perhaps aside from the unnecessary twirl Obi Wan does). That sort of scene shouldn't be too flashy otherwise it may have distracted from the tension and emotional effect of Obi Wan and Vader facing off again after so long.
I agree with idlovetoclimbthat, the scene definitely feels like Vader is basically toying with Obi Wan who has grown old and is unable to challenge him anymore. So the way Lucas did it works for several reasons.
OHP77 that scene was crazy homophobic.
Agreed. Vader's not threatened. He's just playing cat and mouse with Ben, essentially.
Honestly, I viewed it that way even as a kid in the early 80's because the fights in Empire and Jedi were much better.
