I was never really into model trains, but the more I see stuff like this, the more I realize there might have been a lot of appeal for me in building and populating the scenery, like a city-sized dollhouse where I could do environmental storytelling ... all while little trains went by. 😀 Very cool.
I guess this is why there were so many signs around south Philly that just said "I Buy Trains" then a phone number ... no further clarifications 😂, This makes much more sense!
Great stuff, Fran! Thanks for sharing the train show. Never fails to catch attention. I enjoy modeling in HO gauge myself and currently have several locomotives on my bench needing some sort of repair or upgrade.
They didn't show much of what was for sale, my wife and I decided my 3yo needed the last type of Thomas trains. So we came home with loads of wooden Thomas tracks sheds and trains
Still have the Lionel Diesel Switcher Set (Model 1611) my brother and I got back in the early 1960's...all still 99% mint condition Lionel made the set to commemorate Alaska Statehood The only thing that did not survive in pristine condition is the box it came in
Model railroaders don't get a lot of respect in TV shows and such. In one (I think it was "Two and a Half Men") the scene is in a bookstore. They show a fellow paying for a couple of books and the smarmy clerk says, "Model Railroading Encyclopedia and Cooking for One - Do you see the connection?"
Very cool! I liked the graffiti on some of the cars. The steel mill at the end was rad too. 😎 I have a bunch of H&O scale and LGB train stuff that I should do something with.
Yeah, me too, I enjoyed doing it as a new hobby for lad n dad time together but my son at 19 now hasn't touched the £££ layout and trains for the last 5 years...
A train to the moon! I wonder what control systems those model railroads use. Analog? DCC? Some proprietary manufacturer-specific thing? Also wondering if you could find any European manufacturers there (Piko, Märklin, Tillig, Rivarossi, etc.).
Most of these were DCC, which is the standard control system apart from analog. Vintage Rivarossi equipment is very popular in the states, particularlly steam engines (I have a few myself). Lots of people I know use Piko switches but I've never seen engines or rolling stock from them? Marklin shows up from time to time, too, but usually in things like Z scale where there isn't a lot of options otherwise
@@mr-meek thanks for the info! :) My friend Alana makes some decoders and control electronics for model railways, and she got me into this fascinating world.
too bad Amerika let the rail system deteriorate, it was more environmentally friendly, & now we have to rely on trucks which are much more polluting..brilliant!
Now there is a bunch of people with the same train of thought and one track minds. 😂
well narrated
Wow! Great to see model trains thriving in Philadelphia big time.

The rocket & launchpad were neat!
Love the realist details like the dirt & graffiti on the engines & cars :)
When Someone tells Me About a Train Show I’m All Ears. And my Wife And I Are So there👍.
I thought train collecting and model railway layouts was a British thing....but good to see these fantastic sets..
Some really great prices! I wish we would have something like this here, too cool!
Neat model train show.
What a bunch of nerds! (looks around at my 8-bit computers, 3d printer, too many Arduinos and a scope)
That looks pretty cool!
Looks like a great show!
You know I have a soft spot for model O gauge trains.
Those darn graffiti taggers even tagged the model rail cars on the Coal Country line @ 6:33. Have they no shame?!
Thanks Fran !
It's one of the largest and best known train shows in the country. Hope you enjoyed going. Nephew Dan gave me heads up on your vid.
Thank you so much Fran - I'm disabled: I can't get out (or afford it lol) THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME.
That tanker car at the end said "Bethlehem". That was the name of a big steal plant in West Seattle when I was growing up there in the 70s.
I guess this is why there were so many signs around south Philly that just said "I Buy Trains" then a phone number ... no further clarifications 😂, This makes much more sense!
All those Atlas, Con-cor, Lionel, etc, boxes fill me with happiness inside.
This is rail phantasm mmmmmmm America has brilliant items .
chugga chugga..... wooo wooooooooo!
Choo choo 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃
I love this stuff. I'm 62 and still would like to get back into the hobby. Good coverage Fran.
My first train I bought when I was 14. I still have it, I'm 65.
Groovy!
I love seeing model trains and thank you Fran for showing us!
Im going to a train show this weekend🎉
Thank you, Fran.
Great stuff, I love it
Ah, the days of Faller, Fleishmann, Jouef, and the glue for grass powders... 😎
Fran, I picked up one of those Saturn 5 rockets at Menard's on sale for $89.99. Pretty cool show. Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Those tiny people are standing way too close to the track! They're in danger!
Great stuff, Fran! Thanks for sharing the train show. Never fails to catch attention. I enjoy modeling in HO gauge myself and currently have several locomotives on my bench needing some sort of repair or upgrade.
Wow, you could drop a bundle of cash there. How adorable that some of the cars have graffiti. And TTTE was present too. Cool show.
They didn't show much of what was for sale, my wife and I decided my 3yo needed the last type of Thomas trains. So we came home with loads of wooden Thomas tracks sheds and trains
I have never really looked at model trains like that before. It's like what real trains would look like without graffiti.
If you see a g scale small modular (nuclear) reactor model, pls post link. I really need one.

Looks like you were there on Saturday
Some very impressive displays. I wonder how many hours/days to unpack, setup, teardown and repack.
Thanks for the video.
The Saturn 5 and amusement park are cool...
You could easily fit an N scale track in the workshop :-D
I adore N scale! It's small enough to fit so much into any given space.
Childhooddreams😊
Many thanks Fran for this Model Train show video.
That Saturn 5 rocket looked very real.
USA railroads are so much more interesting than the UK ones.
Fantastc
Thanks for taking us with you Fran 👍👍👍

Invested $$$$ into trains for my kids. Now they don't appreciate or even want them. Well time to move on.
Yeah, me too, I enjoyed doing it as a new hobby for lad n dad time together but my son at 19 now hasn't touched the £££ layout and trains for the last 5 years...
Give them 10 years, lol. I wish I had my uncles trains we inherited when I was a kid. Had to repalce them all myself
My kids don't care either, but, someday I'm sure they'll remember with some degree of nostalgia
Some of those trains even have graffiti on them 😂
yeeech!.. that garbage was really bad. MAD
There shouldn't be a cow on the top of the trash carriage....
It did fall over, so it leaned it's lesson.
@@FranLab excellent
@@FranLab udderly crazy
My favorite part of any layout are the out of scale animals that don't belong ;-) I have some dinosaurs on my layout... it's fantastic XD
Hand of God at 3:47.

Saw at least some Digitrax DCC gear on one layout there.

@@mr-meek thanks! :)
Is this Chinese or US made trains?
👍👌✌🚂🚞🚞🚞
whoa - how far are we from a fran x alan fisher collab?
Love the tiny graffiti replica! All the scale just seems so whacked. Everything is too close together!
