    One advantage of playing left-handed that wasn't mentioned is when it comes to receiving serves in doubles, a left-hander can position himself/herself to where it's somewhat easier to play an aggressive forehand return.

    I got so hyped when Otto said being a lefty was a small advantage. FINALLY being weird helps me

    • @OrtegaSauce
      @OrtegaSauce 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      It's an advantage more than you think. Being lefty in basketball helped me get more steals imo, because I'm like a mirror to the offense and I work better forcing them to their weak side which is my strong side for easier steals. In fighting sports left handed people (southpaws) are used to fighting right handed people, where both fighters' lead hands are on the same side, (imagine making a fighting pose in the mirror and you and the reflections front hand are on the same side) which is weird for regular fighters but more common for southpaws.
      Overall left handed people are able to do most things right handed people can, because they're more or less forced to learn it on the right then reteach themselves on the left. Bottom line, Lefties rule.

    • @iron2684

      This is actually pretty common in a lot of sports, being left handed helps cuz most people 90% of the time wld be used to playing vs right and not left handers

    Question: What are the different advantages/disadvantages to the different ways to hold the racket?

    • @milovanmilovanov2598
      @milovanmilovanov2598 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the chinese grip is unnatural, in the way you holding the racket, and the angles you hit the ball. As for "the normal" standard way. You can utalize the mechanics of your arm/body better.

    • @lastxp
      @lastxp ปีที่แล้ว

      J Pen hold players can attack over the table easier getting the blade very close to the table surface taking the ball early but will usually have a harder time on the backhand side relying on footwork more. C pen gives more options but having more options can be more complicated. Shakehand is a good middle ground. Pistol grip adds more power but bigger playing elbow. Every style will have pros and cons and if a player is good enough at a certain style the cons become negligible.

    The other reason players wipe their hands on the table: It's a stalling tactic. They want more time to think about strategy, or to rest, so they stall by making it look like they're doing something legitimate so that the refs don't fault them. And it works. It buys them a couple more seconds between points.

    I have a few questions...
    1. The meaning of "CHO-LEE" (and no one say "YESSSS!" after winning a point...)
    2. Players always blow the hand/racket
    3. Not much Penhold players nowadays
    4. The Chinese domination for the past 20+ years
    5. Pongfinity is so good

    • @sdazxcf
      @sdazxcf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      1. someone says it Cho means ball in Chinese as if shouting ‘good BALL’. Fan zen song once shouted yes. I think it’s a game between him and Pitchford
      2. Sweat or to remove dust from racket
      3. Backhand flick being more aggressive and dominating. Traditional pen hold only has forehand
      4. Millions of people in China plays tt. And with their government supporting and electing potential players since youth. It’s quite obvious
      5. They are once youth national team from Finland iirc

      1. i just read that in chinese cho is short for good match. But a lot of people also say yesssss. It depends on the player
      2. it is to cool the hand (sounds weird but works quite well) and to have luck just like you blow a coin for exampls.
      3. the back hand as penholders is much more difficult to master. And the european way just became simply a standard
      4. chinese are good in pretty mucb everything since they have a lot of people
      5. i agree

      Squire_ C7 Table tennis is hard to improve on without people who are better than you. Best advice is to find a local club and try to get coaching, and if you can’t do that, there are many good tutorials online. If someone beats you, try to think about what you did wrong and maybe even ask your opponent what you could improve on. Practice is very important, but you want to make sure you are practicing correctly, otherwise you will build bad habits.

    1:30 Some Chinese players told me that - there are less and less pimple players in the higher classes because pimples are more difficult to handle high speed & high spins for 40+mm than 38mm. The ball is heavier and bigger than before, so the ball goes slower and the spin is smaller, but Kinetic energy becomes larger, which restuls more unstable rebounce. But inverted rubbers have better frications on the surface so it's more stable. The same theory was used for guns. People increased bullet caliber to enhance blocking force on the target to increase the possibility of an instant kill. So, ITTF will eventually kill all other types of rubbers by increasing ball in near future, IMO.

    The fact that higher league players don’t use long pimples or pimples out rubbers is because the main reason to use pimples out is to not take spin and in higher levels they already know how to deal with spins and it goes with less speed comparing with pimples in rubbers.

    Why do table tennis players start the point by hitting short and not hit it hard directly?

    • @abdallababikir4473
      @abdallababikir4473 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's too risky

    • @ilemon1848
      @ilemon1848 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Often times players will serve short and with lots of backspin because it makes the ball much harder for the opponent to attack. If you attempt to hit a short, backspin ball aggressively, it will likely go straight into the net, unless you counteract the spin using a flick technique. Flicks require a lot of practice to be consistent with, and if your opponent plays well, they are hard to pull off even with practice. So, they play the first few shots safe, and wait for a ball that they can open up on.

    Something I've been wondering for a while is why do people so often stamp their foot when they're serving?

    • @eineente3153
      @eineente3153 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several possible answers for it
      1. To hide the sound. The more direct the ball is hit, the harder/ more wooden the sound . The more indirect the ball is hit, the softer/more rubberish the sound. Serving is often about setting up a good opportunity to attack the next ball. And when your opponent has to guess how spinny the ball is, he returns it weaker. That's why some players even do fake motions. And spin is reeeeealy important in table tennis. It changes the arc, direction, pace and behavior after contact with the bat from the ball. So in short to try to make your opponents life harder.
      2.There is a technique for strong underpin serves that needs you stomping to work properly. It goes like this(as right hander): You position is orthogonal to the table (as most of the time) So your right foot is further away from the table. Then you lean completely to your right, building up tension in your leg and having all weight on the right leg. After that, you "kick" the ground with the right leg, putting rapidly all your weight onto your left leg(the stomping). The result is much more power/spin serve because you incorporate your lower body into the shot in addition to your arm swing.
