I would give away the D-220 to those who would appreciate just an FM radio, but if I knew of a family member or close friend who listens to shortwave I would give away the D-219 instead. It takes me ages to nail down a narrow band station on SW with the D-220 and it's not worth my time to use it as a shortwave DX'ing machine. I've even faced difficulties in tuning into Radio Wai FM on shortwave, even though the transmitter is no more than 50 kms away from my QTH!🙂
@@StratmanII It's true, SW tuning is very tricky on the D-220. I use mine like a lucky packet, for the fun of it 🙂 Because it is kind of hard to find specific stations, I use mine more to just see what I can get, you never know what you will hear. I enjoy it, a bit of "light" DXing, just for fun.
@@swlistening I have stopped trying to nail the SW station that I want to listen and now leave it to the D-220 to choose whichever broadcast station it wants to lock on! 😁 Another thing - the plastic quality for the green variant seems opaque, unlike the translucent orange color. What I mean by this is, the LED's light doesn't cause the green model to glow. The orange one does light up with the LED and reminds me of a cheap no-name radio. 😀

Thank you Pedro, this is the first time that someone has told me that I am like Santa Claus, what a nice compliment 😊 I think many DXers in South Africa have Barlow Wadley radios, like Robert, and like me, because the radio was made here. Even today it is still possible to find them for sale, often in good working condition. The other radio in Robert's shack is an Eddystone (the big one you can see). It is a tube radio that was made in England. My best wishes to you also for a fantastic 2025!

The golden age of radios gave rise to those wonders of tube receivers, whose sound and listening pleasure have never been surpassed, despite some expensive chip radios today.. Although modern receivers (not to mention SDRs), are already "a world apart" for their better qualities in general, but the sound and listening pleasure for the ear of a "tube" radio is still spectacular and unsurpassed, in my opinion.
