This is easily within my top 3 anime this season. It gives off a different atmosphere compared to like 95% of anime and it's so mature how they handle things here. Glad there's not even those stereotypical character tropes here. Such a shame not everyone gave it the love it truly deserves
I am also currently watching Atri: My Dear Moments, and wow there are so many gems this season. And of course the rating to both of these shows on MAL is a crime
@@Cow1751in the end all that matters is our own personal taste, i have watched some top rated anime but ended up enjoying more on some low rated anime.
At last they’re both being honest to themselves and with each other about their true feelings, if still somewhat cautious and awkward. Sensitively and delicately portrayed.
The experience of watching this series surpass my expectation, i already prepared for heavy themed anime because i already read the manga but the direction they did when animating it is so good. The pacing was perfect, the way they use scene without dialogues and use a BGM especially the piano pieces were so beautiful, it reminded me of Shinkai's works "Garden of Words" and its composer Kashiwa Daisuke. I left with understanding the characters and myself in the end, such a good series.
Worth it!! Absolutely beautiful. Season 2 please, University arc to be exact. Only other romance anime I loved next to this was "The angel next door spoils me rotten" now for me it's a battle on what show would be a better S2.
While the angel spoils me rotten is nice, i find that it is just a formulaic romance anime with the usual anime tropes. Days with My Stepsister hits different simply because of how realistic their emotions and internal struggles are.
@@AIWaifus2 not comparing, one is based on realism, the other one is based on care from a stranger while being neglected. god, why is this anime so freaking good. I can’t stop thinking about it. The entire vibe is so thought provoking, and calming, and confusing at the same time. It makes you feel good but sad at the same time.
As a guy that grew up in foster care, this hits home. Interesting story, my younger sister and I grew up from the age of 3 and 4 under our foster parents roof. It wasn't bad but wasn't great either. More often enough, it was very lonely and pressuring. Anyway, we used to do this thing where we had "sleepovers," where it was basically her coming into my room, getting under my duvet and playing her DS (same as me) until we got bored and she went back to her room. Or playing foot fights, where we jam our smelly feet in each other's faces. Looking back, it was our sibling way of companionship and quality time. Seeing Ayase and Asamura deal with their conflict with their love for each other, be it familial or other, was wonderfully handled. Anyway you put it, they do care about each other.
As the episode goes by the maturity of both characters are portrayed perfectly. Both hurt because of their situation and yet so in love, Cautious about how to handle thing's confronting each other feelings. This MC was nice unlike the MC on "Domestic Girlfriend" who can't even admit his feelings, He has a crush on his bestfriend for a long time and his bestfriend also has a crushed on him, She already kissed him and yet he still asked himself if she like him. That Mc is so dense and stvpid as f, my brain cells keeps popping per episode and i started coughing so my family has to put me in a seperate room for isolation.
I wasn’t born American, but "I will count on you" seems to go beyond a literal translation of the original Japanese. He used the same phrase that she did in Episode 1, when she told him not to "expect" anything from her. While "expect" would have been closer to the literal meaning, "count on" could reflect a deeper emotional insight, showing that he’s not just expecting something from her now, but also trusting and relying on her. This might explain why the translator chose "count on" instead.
期待する "Counting on you" is probably correct. It implies having a lot in the way of expectations. It's probably correct, given that earlier Ayase says 貸与ってもいいよ "You can depend on me"
@@SVSky Thanks. It's great to know this. I believed that employing the same word had some meaning because the Japanese could connect the dots between Episodes 1 and 12. Using different wording always has pros and cons.😁
Japanese words change in context of the situation its not always possible to translate perfectly without it soundong odd in english. It will often times just look like a last word added to the end of the line/sentences when straight translated.
@@cozy3411 In the german version they actually used the term expectation ("Erwartung") in episode 1 and 12. And at least in german it has a more complex meaning in this context than only "counting on somebody" ("sich auf jemanden verrlassen (können)"). An "expectation" implies a more active part from the other one while "counting on somebody" implies a more passive or reactive part at least from our language. For example I know that I could count on my friends when I'm feeling bad, I would never expect or demand something from them. I personally think that "having expectations" (in a positive way) fits better because they want to be open with their feelings and thoughts instead of hidding it any longer not only carring for each other. At least my (german) impression from our translation.
@@immatoll4375 Thank you for your insightful comment about "expectation." It’s great to know that the same word was leveraged in German. In the anime, when a young lady (or even a child) says "Do not expect me" to a boy, the hidden meaning is that she is not (or will not be) interested in him. In the last scene, the boy uses the same phrase positively in return. The direct meaning is, "I will be interested in you more, and I want you to be interested in me as well." However, we Japanese perceive a hidden connotation, like "You can EXPECT that I will promise to keep our love discreet (only between you and me)." The word "expectation" can have different and multiple meanings depending on the situation. I appreciate the German comment about the consistency of the translation. It highlights how nuanced language can be and how different languages can convey similar meanings in distinct ways.
