    I love your approach, Dann. It's pragmatic, no-nonsense, and focused on the actual use, not just playing with Obsidian as a cool toy (which it is... but). Thank you!

    I’ve found that graph view is very useful when dealing with a huge topic, for example, “climate change”… there are SO many components and approaches to understanding (or for some, denying) this phenomenon and so using the graph view, you can literally see the physical connections between the various sub-topics of this main discussion point… that’s what I’ve found to be extremely productive in not forgetting the overwhelming amount of knowledge, especially if you’re writing articles or whatever. I’m an academic writer and for me, the graph is crucial in maintains both an overview but also making sure that I don’t space something important. Thanks for your content… just stumbled on you and looking forward to exploring your Obsidian tips.

    I love the idea of random note fridays being a dedicated time to re-discover and process. I'll definitely implement this in my own system, thanks!

    Thanks for this reminder about publishing your writing. I never think to post about the research I'm doing for my dissertation (something about saving it, which is weird) but since I already have a list of "topics" that I link my notes to, I think I'll use that as a list of possible blog posts moving forward. You're right: writing is thinking. Thanks!

    Thanks for the ideas - I’m going to try the random note and the summary tips right away! I’ve recently added the concept of ”Lightning Rods of Thought” by Nicole van der Hoeven to my ”dashboard”, and it has inspired me to go regularly back to the notes that need more work.

    Thanks again Dann. I have many daily-notes that get stacked in my obsidian vault. I have added the summary property to the daily-note. As my work consists in producing emblematic plots, I would-like to select one of the plots connected to my dailynote as representative of my work of the day. I would dream to have a kind of MOC presenting a gallery of my daily note selected-plots that I could select in order to find the date when I did this work. Is there a way to do this combining Excalidraw/Excalibrain or something else ?

    • @DannBerg
      @DannBerg  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've been trying to do a little bit of digging here to get you an answer, and unfortuately it's a bit out of my depth. I haven't played with Excelidraw or Excalibrain at all, so I'm not sure how they mix with Dataview.
      Is there a way of representing the emblematic plot at a property of the note? I'm not sure exactly what those are or what they look like, but ideally it'd be in a format that Dataview could render in a table on the MOC.

    Remember, it's not about the quantity of books read, but rather about implementing the ideas gleaned from them into your life and sharing them with others. This process of turning ideas into action is what truly signifies growth and progress.

    • @DannBerg
      @DannBerg  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That's exactly right. If you don't have a way to recall and actually use the things you read, it's the same as not reading it at all.

    Well, there are tons of info about taking notes and very little about why do this and how to use them. From 5 ways how you use your notes - 3 are actually managing notes, not using. Yes - this management has its benefits, but still this is hardly a usage of the notes. Reading random notes is a good thing - I do this time to time as well (thank you for the plugin hint, btw).
    And "publishing", well may be - but for publishing as you described it you do not need to take notes about movies and many other things you take notes about.
    After watching your video I still have a feeling that the main benefit from this style of note taking is structuring your thoughts during note taking process as such, while the the notes themself (most of them) are relatively useless.
    Is this so, or did I miss something?

    • @DannBerg
      @DannBerg  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think you raise some really good points, and I think all this hinges on your definition of "use" here. For me, that means touching or transforming a note in some way after initially writing it. Maybe it forms a connection to something else, maybe it doesn't. But I want to give it that opportunity.
      Taking notes on a movie could be useful if it: 1) makes you think of a connection to another movie/book/etc based on content or theme or 2) is referenced in something that you published or 3) makes you think in a new way that has an impact on other areas of thought.
      A lot of the practices that I describe in this video are habits that try to open myself up to these sorts of things. It's hard to force it on its own, but when you do housekeeping and other tasks like this, it opens you up to actually using your notes more. Or, maybe you never use a note again, which is fine too. It's about making opportunity in my opinion.

    I mostly use Logseq for my fleeting notes, as I like the bulletting system that they use. I then move to Obsidian when it comes to putting those notes into my own words!

    • @DannBerg
      @DannBerg  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh, that's interesting. I haven't actually explored what it might look like to use both Logseq and Obsidian together. Any reason why you use Logseq for fleeting notes as opposed to just keeping it all in Obsidian?

    Wacom pads are cheap, you don' thave to be artistic to use them - the most important note taking tip I was giving is - whenever possible actually write out your notes.
    The brain processes typed text differently than it does written text; you don't need a study to learn this.

    • @DannBerg
      @DannBerg  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Are you handwriting with a Wacom pad into Obsidian? Or using it in some other way?

      @@DannBerg Obsidian is a bit overbuilt for me - granted I haven't done the work of mastering it. I use an odd assortement of drawing apps. Something about mapping out my study material brought an order of magnitude in comprehension - also memorizing the objectives for every class I take. You can't build a human without a skeleton.
