Interesting how the actress who played Jacqui had twins (a Boy and girl) in Brookside and now her character (Dianne) in Hollyoaks has twins (also a boy and girl).
I never liked the new look parade. I'm not opposed to change, but it was too much too soon and alienated longstanding viewers with its sense of unfamiliarity. Plus the faux frontages and roofs were really obvious and spoilt the principle of Brookside having real buildings as their sets. I suppose the new road was a fair attempt at making use of the dead space between the shops and the petrol station, but seeing that yellow minibus go around and around in an endless circle didn't come across as good as they'd intended. It made it look a bit silly. It's interesting to see how it now looks as a set for Hollyoaks. Despite the huge changes, the buildings are still recognisable from the late Brookside years.
Agreed. It was almost like you blinked and it was a completely different show, particularly as at the same time they started adding a film grade effect to the footage; too much too soon is right. It Probably didn’t help that the new unfamiliar set coincided with a real dip in the show’s quality. Rewatching early episodes on STV player recently makes you realise how much more realistic Brookside was before they introduced the shops at all and filmed everything beyond the close on location in Liverpool… as soon as the characters were all working and living alongside each other it took on the microbubble feel of every other soap and lost its uniqueness in the process. Oh well, it’s been gone a long time now.

2000 felt like it was a rebirth for the show but mid-year it sort of went a bit south
