This bowl consists of 96 baltic birch plywood segments, and 24 walnut segments (120 total). All rings are about 3/4" thick, so the total height is just under 4.5". Overall diameter is roughly 11.5".

Fantastic work!!! I'm in a Sculpting-like class, and I made a chess piece, the pawn. (clay, haha) And If you'd like, I can send you a picture of the finished piece once it's done. I still need to let it dry out and turn it into Bisque ware, after that I'll glaze it and make the finished product. (My instructor is going to teach me how to make Glaze look like marble)
I don't know how you come up with these magnificent looking projects and then manage to make it look so simple to complete. You have a real gift and by all means continue using it and sharing it with others. I totally enjoy all of your videos.

am from the Caribbean and this really looks like the bush baskets the market vendors sell, only this one can hold liquids. nice idea, the video was very informative and so far I seen many wood turning videos and you the only one that I have seen that have actually use plywood to do a project, great job!

I have a very dear friend that has your gift. He spent his life woodworking. He was your age (20-30?) in the 70's. There was no safety equipment or respirators. He's now on a lung transplant list. Healthy as a horse except his lungs. Doctors say the life of dust collection by his lungs did him in. Please take care.

There aren't really any angles to work out. It's just a normal 12-segment ring except it's cut with the blade tilted. And so long as the blade stays at the same angle throughout the project, everything will fit.

I used to do wood working high school. I absolutely loved it and got pretty good at it too. I wish I could pursue that and have my own machines....but that's a lot of money that I do not have! I guess I'll have to live vicarious through you! Love your videos!

Hey Jeremy, please do not take this the wrong way but you are a pure woodworking nerd and I love it. In my past life I was a shop fitter and would make jigs for everything. The way you explain everything in your video's is great. Great project and thanks for sharing.
I was watching you glue and clamp all the rings together and they were sliding all over the place. If you sprinkle some salt in between the layers it stops the pieces from slipping and the salt just disolves. Cheers.

I admire your work ethic to make sure everything lines up properly - it's so much more pleasing to the eye when that happens. And I was impressed with your home-made thickness gauge. +Jeremy Schmidt -got this from watching someone else's video: mix appropriate color sanding dust with glue, pack in any holes left over. Also, one gentleman used elongated rubber bands to hold the pieces in a ring. when the ring was too large, he tied a rope around the rings, put a smallish weight on top/middle, made sure the pieces lined up and tied a rope around them and in the knot of the rope, twisted it tight with a screwdriver, used something to hold the screwdriver (I couldn't see what - probably a rubber band! 😉), periodically checking alignment. Then he piled on more weights. That seemed to work, but I bet it takes a lot of practice. But you probably have figured this out all ready, just thought I'd pass the info on.

Why do bowls sit on the rim of the bottom? Why don't bowls simply sit on the entire bottom surface area? Same with mugs, cups, etc...

Also has to do with the weight of the circular object is basically all carried using the outer rim of the circle. So by cutting away the inside you actually lose next to no stability.
