Have to admit, one thing that genuinely impresses me is the attention to detail on the shorts; notice that when Feathers shoots the revolver, the chamber moves like an actual gun. That's some pretty cool attention to detail.
It’s almost like when they realized how much work this scene would take, they just said “eh, we’ll be staying late every day. Let’s just give it 110%.”
@@lucasprior7922 I always assumed that was an intentional gag like the never ending spare track. Classic movies with shootouts on a train always seem to feature "20 shot revolvers".
@@lucasprior7922 yep. More specifically, an 1873 .45 Colt Peacemaker. Not to mention, he's shooting double action when it's clearly a single action pistol.
1:09 this little bit where the camera moves out of the train’s way, knowing how much goes into stop motion, is probably one of the best pieces of animation ever.
+DispleasedEskimo I have to agree, I love the entire series of Wallace and Gromit shorts and the movie, but this one sequence is easily the strongest one they ever animated.
If you think this isn't appreciated enough, just remember, this short won an Oscar for being the best one of 1993! It had to be this scene that helped them win it.
My favourite gag in this scene isn't Gromit's endless track to catch up to Feathers McGraw, but the one-frame shot of Wallace's net getting caught on a random moose. It's at 1:22 for a millisecond, but it makes me giggle EVERY TIME because of the fact they would have had to think about that gag as a way for Wallace to keep failing, and I think that's the best thing about Aardman; they know their characters back to front. Of course, Wallace has a Moose head somewhere in his house; of course, Wallace would forget about having it until it tripped him up somehow! Thank you, Nick Park; Peter Sallis; Aardman. Your work will be immortal.
Luigi's death stare has nothing on Gromit. 2:02 he is giving him a "I'm gonna fuck you up" kinda look. I'm always impressed on how emotive they manage to make him even when he's a silent character.
This is so flippin' brilliant. My favourite childhood movie. It will NEVER get old. Everything about the first three W&G films is perfect. This scene sums them up.
This scene was unlike anything I had ever seen before at the time. Every time I watch it again, I get this feeling over how well Nick Park and the animators at Aardman did with this scene. Strongest scene of the lot.
there's a reason this is considered one of the best moments in the franchise. The animation is so impressive with how fast paced everything is, and it the right mix of suspense and comedy.
Definetely the funniest scene in this movie, in my opinion at least. I can't help being impressed with the talent and dedication of the animators, and perhaps even more so in the previous movie (A Grand Day Out) where Nick Park animated the entire film himself.
