It's a great bass but sire and dealers need to up their inspection before they ship. My V10DX arrived with many imperfections on the Hipshot hardware and the input jack had one screw that will not grip because the would is stripped or drilled too large. At $1,800 for the 5 string, they could do better.

Love sire basses! Incredible value for money! I have the straight p5 with the GZR EMG pickup mod, but I must admit, the p5r is tempting me, especially in that natural finish. Just a minor comment on the video quality in general though. Love the presenter and would love to see more of him, but his voice seems to be compressed to the point of distortion. Maybe something to look at in future

I've tried a score of basses in the past few months, maybe 25-30 different models: Squier, Sire, Ibanez, Jackson, Fenders, and more I've forgotten. I have very good words for the Jacksonbacker 5 strings, there was a Sire, yellow colored kind of jazz Bass which model number I don't recall, the Ibanez 32 inch "medium scale" cherry red with maple neck and maple fretboard, but I went for two Yamahas: TRBX305 and TRBX304. There is simply NO better value for the money.

I’m from the States; bought a V7 5-string swamp ash/clear gloss from Anderton’s back in February of this year - for one, they were impossible to find anywhere in the US, and two, it was far cheaper - even shipped overseas - to get it from Anderton’s than it would have been to purchase from a retailer in the states (about $200 USD less expensive).
All said, it’s looks, sounds and plays nicely for the price…and from a standing distance, it does look quite premium. However, it shipped with a number of small finish flaws (binding scuffs, paint marks, cracked pickup cover, large file indent on the bridge, etc.) that you would never find on an actual ‘four-figure instrument’. Thus, the claims of Sires being ‘equivalent to instruments 4x the price’ are pure hyperbole.
Mind you, I play in a working wedding band - my bass case gets tossed in the gear trailer and I’m playing/handling it constantly; I wasn’t looking for an ‘heirloom instrument’ to begin with. Just know that if you buy a Sire, you are getting what you pay for, not necessarily more/less than that.

@@JazzzRockFuzion I play for a living and do all kinds of work ranging many genres and I also own a sire (V9). I can attest to everything you say they are great instruments but def not the fender killer some probably think they are. I see them starting to try to change that with this new lineup esp the hipshot hardware on the Dx models. I still mainly gig my fenders for this reason and I'm not a die hard fender fanboy.

The band plays a lot of 50's 60's classic rock and old country from the late 60's early 70's. I'm thinking about Squire paranormal Carbonite, Squire 50's classic vibe, and Gretch g5220. not a bassist, but I agree to be honest. Whenever I'm playing with a bass player and thinking I am LOVING your tone, or see a bass player whose tone I love, 80-90% of the time it's a passive instrument. Often some sort of p bass. One time I saw a 3 piece where the bass player was playing a rickenbacker and it sounded absolutely sensational too.
Equally, some of the worst bass tones I've ever heard have come from players wielding expensive active monsters making sounds honkier than an actual goose lol

I love the look and sound of these basses, especially the P5, however, the name Marcus Miller on the headstock rather than Sire does seem to tie the instrument to a musical style. At the risk being superficial, I might get a few sideways glances from my rock bandmates if I turned up with one. Nothing at all against Marcus Miller, but from a marketing point of view a more visible brand name, albeit a "newbie", might be more appropriate.
