Building a Duck House for Pet Ducks (at the off grid cabin)

แชร์

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 11 ก.ย. 2020
  • Join me as I build a duck house, kind of like a bird house, or chicken house, but for ducks! I'll make it floating so that the ducks can live on the pond and swim, but also not have to worry about predators like mink, or raccoons sneaking up on them in the middle of the night.
I will use my miter saw, drill, hammer, nail gun, and some chicken wire to make an animal enclosure to keep my ducks safe. All build projects are the same, for the most part, from design, to implementation, you assemble parts until what you have in mind is built.
"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

Love that tip with the middle-finding method. And if it helps with taking a guess, you can fold your tape in half and go with whatever measure is in the middle of the "crease" (bend).

I had some ducks when I was a kid. :) 2 great white pekins and a blue swedish. They were great pets. We had a house for them inside an old outside huge dog kennel so they would be safe at night. Every night they would come to the door to be let in, and every morning we would let them out so they could wander over to the pond. We even ate their eggs for breakfast. :) They're good. They're huge and taste like regular eggs.

Cool duck house👍🏻you could use a system like sailors do with dinghys where you have a fixed anchor / mooring coming up to a floating buoy with a shackle you put a rope through this and bring both ends back to shore then have a stake driven into the ground with another shackle. Put the rope through and tie both ends together. You can then attach the duck house to this pull out to the middle of the pond next to the floating buoy and tie off. When you need to bring back untie and pull back. Sure a big rock and some foam would create the anchor and buoy. 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🦆

Well your right it looks like minnow trap with a home lol. But also when needing to find the center of a measurement you can also just fold your tape in half and get what center is. So if it's 14" pull tape out to 14" lock it down and told your tape and it will tell you what the middle(center) measurement is. But thanks good job. Stay safe. God bless.

You have a great imagination. I just screwed some atv tires together for the ducks to sit on in the middle of the pond and a bobcat picked them off little by little. I was tired of cleaning up after them in the chicken coop. Always putting dirt in the water and making a mess. Very comical but messy. I once saved some baby mallards that were getting run over on a roadway. They returned to our pond for a few seasons. We mainly get wood ducks here now and one mallard couple. Had the large white ducks for a while too. Horniest duck. Chasing all the other ducks, chickens and the wood ducks that lived across the creek. Humping everything it could. Tried to hump a chicken that was dying. Poor thing. Something carried the horny white duck away and a couple days later it came home with a wound on it's neck. Something eventually took him across the creek and ate him. Found the feathers. We only have chickens now. Our chickens are tough. They hunt and kill mice and moles. While splitting wood there's often ants in the trees. I have the chickens trained to come when I whistle. They clean up the ants. Barred rocks are my favorites. Just saying....

Hey, I just recently found your channel and it's awesome, however, ducks need a lot of space and solid ground to roam on. Additionally, they love frozen peas and that's what I use when I want them to go inside their house. If they're female ducks they will need at least a clean nest of hay to lay in. They're pretty picky. Also, chicken wire won't be able to keep out predators. You'll need hardwire for that.
