This video did inspire me to go and explore the history of parasocial relationships (did u know the term was first coined in 1956?!) I think if it was something you were interested in you’d do an incredible job sort of summarising that history and development of Parasocial-ness. Cause the differences of the peeps in the 50s talking about it with regards to authors and like James Dean vs the researchers talking about it in 2005 and even the ones in 2020s have such drastically different perspectives but wading thru that can be quite intimidating. That feels like the power of video essayists, to condense and distill the heavy ‘important’ stuff into a more digestible format for people that may otherwise not care enough to find out
Social media influencers I"d say are often even more unreliable than the mainstream media, because they are way more vulnerable. Their revenue streams are not diversified, so they are much more beholden to their sponsors, and they are at the complete mercy of an algorithm, which makes them super mindful of what the audience supposedly wants from them. These things alone will make them say things that they wouldn't otherwise say, and do things they wouldn't otherwise do.
More specific comments (there will also be a 3rd comment cause lots of thoughts and why not spread them out so u get more engagement :) ): I appreciate the coherence of your ‘ramblings’. And although yeah I lot of the details you go into (crunchyroll) aren’t necessarily ones I have experience using the insights you being from them are genuinely fascinating (I did not know they had an active comments section) And while I’m not sure I fully agree with a lot of your smaller points your overall argument is strong and really well constructed.
hey thanks for the engagement lol. I definitely didnt make this a video where I think everyone can agree on everything, these are just points I myself have noticed being on the internet over time. Im interested in how people perceive these ramblings lol. I intentionally did put the crunchyroll discussion further in because its such a minute point to make in the grand scheme of the internet as a whole. and I know not everyone uses that service so its not really a topic most people care to listen to. but Im just glad to see people discuss things.
Great upload! I really hope u start to get some more visibility.
Thank you so much!
